The Rise of the Iron Wall!
Chapter 850: Morita Seals the Deal with Another BANG!
"Fuck!"
"Come on, Morita!"
All the people on the stand jumped immediately when they saw the shot was taken by the boy. The distance was far from the penalty box, about ten meters away. If it was anyone else, this would be considered a reckless decision. However, everyone trusted Morita to pull some miracles here.
All eyes followed the ball on the pitch as it moved so fast like a bullet, and the next thing they knew, Werder Bremen’s goalkeeper couldn’t even touch the ball, as it slammed into the top left of the goal, giving Schalke the third goal of the game.
"AAAAH!" Morita roared instantly the moment he saw the ball go in. He rushed toward the stands, jumping through the commercial board, and spreading his arms while still screaming, "COME ON!" He waved at the supporters there, asking for more cheers.
"YES, MORITA! That’s how you do it!"
"I know you can do this! Haha! This is crazy!"
Some people started to lose control, forgetting about the whole social distancing protocol, taking off their tops while waving them like crazy. Even though they were just 300, far less than 65,000 people that usually filled the stadium, at least, at this point, they showed the hint of the ultras side that would always bleed for the team.
Soon enough, everyone also followed, joining Morita to celebrate the goal with the supporters. Hell, even Higo rushed from the very end of the other side of the pitch, jumping on everyone’s back the moment he arrived there.
"COME ON, MORITA!"
"FUCK IT! You are so crazy, I tell you that!"
"Damn! No wonder the coach loves you so much!"
At this point, some of the new guys who had only seen a glimpse of what Morita could do from his limited time in the training session were finally convinced, knowing that the boy was way better than their initial expectations.
They were all so happy that the boy was back, realizing that everything would probably be easier in the future.
Meanwhile, on the sideline, Frohling also celebrated in his own way. The man laughed boisterously, punching the air straight in front of Werder Bremen’s bench. Even though he didn’t mean it, this was definitely a provocation, and all the away team players were so green with fury right now.
However, before any of them could do anything stupid that they would regret, one side-eye from their coach was enough to make them swallow all of their anger. The head coach himself didn’t want to push his luck here, having already gotten one red card today.
The hefty amount of fine he would get from causing a commotion would be too troublesome to think, not worth the problem that didn’t even relate to the game itself.
A moment later, though, the celebration was finally over, and everyone was back to their own side to restart the game. Morita also walked alongside his teammates; the grin on his face was so bright and wouldn’t be able to disappear for three days and three nights, probably.
Well, the boy himself had a valid reason for this happiness. He had been away from the football pitch for more than three months, and in the first game he was in, he managed to bag one assist and one goal. That still didn’t count any other advanced stats like passing completion, distance covered, and so much more.
This was definitely a perfect debut, enough to boost his confidence after a long injury period.
After that, the game continued once again, and while Werder Bremen players were trying to get at least one goal first to shorten the gap, they couldn’t really do anything about it. No, Schalke somehow managed to get their defense as tight as ever, not allowing any single threat to come to Higo’s side.
It also helped that the only way Werder Bremen could think of was a crossing scenario, taking advantage of Niclas Fullkrug and a new striker that they put in the second half who were superior in the aerial duel.
The thought was decent, but the reality told them that it was a less effective way to do so. The ball always ended up either getting cleared by Stambouli and Timo Becker, or it would fall straight on Higo’s clutch.
The goalkeeper himself was so relieved when he knew that this was the scheme that the opponent picked. After all, one of his best attributes was his crossing anticipation, and he truly shone in this moment.
Not a single one managed to find the two Werder Bremen players in the penalty box. Four, even, when the two center backs joined the frontline in desperation. No one knew how to break through Higo’s defense, and at this point, everyone finally remembered what Lewandowski said about how he had the potential to be the best in the world.
As for Schalke’s side, after getting the third goal, Frohling was quite satisfied with the score, so he took Goncalo Paciencia off the pitch, replacing him with another defender to add a layer on the defensive end.
However, that didn’t mean that the attack would die just like that, as Morita and Nabil Bentaleb still managed to sneak in one or two decisive passes that allowed Benito Raman to fight against at most one defender and one goalkeeper in the frontline.
Unfortunately, it seemed that the Belgium winger was already at the end of his stamina, as his speed and accuracy dropped further that prevented him from getting the team’s fourth goal of the day.
In the end, time passed by, and once they were in the additional time, the away team also lost their desire to score a goal. They were not the kind of team that always believed a miracle could happen, so it was quite easy to let it go.
Of course, Schalke greeted this white flag signal with open hands. Some players started to let out a relieved sigh, finding the tension had ebbed away from their shoulders.
In the end, after waiting for a few more minutes...
FWEEE! FWEEE! FWEEE!
The referee finally blew the whistle, ending Schalke’s second game of the season with a win.
Schalke 04 3-1 Werder Bremen SV
