Chapter 2944: Complication
Chapter 2944: Complication
Minos and Devdar remained silent for a long time after Lydis' shocking revelations. They had come to the domain of the strongest being of all in search of a negotiation for the vacant thrones, but they had come across a much deeper and unexpected matter.
Devdar, in particular, was more impressed than Minos himself. Even though he wasn't at the heart of the matter, this Deity knew much more about ancient times than his ally. His sense of wonder was much more stimulated at the moment.
Minos, on the other hand, had already seen fragments of what had been the Upper Realm. In particular, he had seen and heard the names mentioned by Lydis. Although he didn't have the same level of astonishment as his companion, he was also treating Lydis' every word seriously, with even his throne remaining silent, watching the situation from the sidelines.
But even though it was hard to believe that he was Tian Wang's successor, Minos knew this was the most genuine truth.
All his senses were making him feel it!
"I'm Tian Wang's successor?" Minos muttered to himself, making Devdar and Lydis look at his eyes, now somewhat lost as he watched the distant horizon.
Devdar asked incredulously. "Minos is the incarnation of the Celestial King? Is his destiny to prevent the next calamity?"
Lydis said in reply. "Not exactly. To say that he is the incarnation is a bit of an exaggeration. He's the heir to the Celestial King, period. He doesn't have the Celestial King's lineage, memories, or innate greatness. He has some of the Celestial King's qualities and the same ultimate ambition. To return peace."
Looking at Minos, Lydis sighed amid the many memories, letting go a little of his air of superiority. He almost looked melancholy. "You are what you are. Like you, many others have existed along the river of time and I myself have had the opportunity to meet several of them. Usually, they weren't so quick to reach immortality. That impressed me about you. However, all your predecessors failed. So, I wonder, are you different or just another failure?"
Minos didn't know how to answer that question. How could he compare himself to those he didn't know? But if those like him had the same qualities, then it would be difficult for him to open his mouth to tell the world that he was different.
Devdar saw Minos wouldn't answer Lydis' almost rhetorical question and wondered something. "Senior, why have you revealed all this to us? It seems to me you're ready to face us, but at the same time, you seem ready to guide us. I confess I'm confused."
Lydis laughed as he slowly returned to his throne, his aura having long since disappeared from the surroundings, allowing the unconscious beings to gradually recover from their earlier shock.
Before anyone woke up, however, he answered Devdar's question. "I'm afraid you'll have to go through me to reach your goal, Minos Stuart. Your journey ahead will not be as short as it may seem. If you don't raise your soul to level 129, you will fail in any attempt and die cruelly, as happened to your predecessors. But reaching level 129 is... impossible.
Impossible as long as I or... actually, I and Lothur Ritter exist. Without one of us, or both of us, dying, you'll never reach level 129!
So I ask you, have you come here to challenge me?"
Devdar paled at Lydis' words, feeling a tightness in his chest as he slowly turned his eyes towards Minos.
"What does that mean?" Minos made an ugly expression after another question from Lydis.
Lydis laughed again. "Isn't it obvious? The energy and laws of our reality are fragile. Two peak Celestial beings are the most we could dream of having. In fact, one should be enough. But Devil Lothur Ritter had a more miraculous journey than the heavens could have predicted. Only then did he achieve the miracle of reaching the last level of the divine path.
But now? You may be the successor to the strongest of the Absolutes, but this reality simply doesn't have enough for three peak entities! Unless you kill me or even kill Lothur and me, you're doomed to failure!"
Gulp!
Devdar couldn't help but feel his nervousness rise to a new peak. Killing level 129 True Celestials would be impossible, even for Minos!
But if it meant that Minos was in danger, then the most talented and impressive being he had ever seen emerge was doomed to a terrible fate!
Lydis spoke up, putting an end to this conversation. "Do what your heart desires. Defy fate, if that's on your mind. I'll be eagerly awaiting your answer.
In the meantime, I won't fight you until you raise your weapon against me. But know that I won't give my life easily. However impressive your cause and indispensable your rise, I will not sacrifice myself for the peace of others."
As Lydis finished his words, the first individuals to faint earlier gradually woke up, feeling the weight of the invisible blow they had received.
Those in Minos' group slowly realized the strange situation in Lydis' throne hall, seeing their leader silent, staring directly at the local sovereign with an expression that looked like a question mark.
'This is really complicated.' Minos thought to himself, his doubt coming both from his situation in relation to the Celestial King, but also from the complex figure in front of him. 'What does Lydis really want? He acts as if the Celestial King's successor is important even to him. But he clearly stands in my way, even though he says he doesn't wish to face me.
The throne finally said something in Minos' mind, 'This is a legendary figure who has lived long enough to see all kinds of plots unfold in front of him, master. Lydis knows as much about the past as he does about the present. That's why he welcomes you so well into his domain. However, being aware of the problems of reality is not the same as abnegating on behalf of others.
What he said makes sense. Level 129 Celestials are really challenging and there isn't enough in this universe for all level 128 beings to reach that level. Maybe even you can't achieve this feat without challenging these two entities...'
Minos understood very well the origin of the throne's comment. He himself was already at a very high level and knew how difficult it would be to grow beyond where he was. Level 129? Forget that. He didn't even know if he could reach level 128, given his perception of reality since entering the realm!
But without undisputed power, he knew he wouldn't be able to prevent a generalized war between the dimensions, which could lead to another collapse, like the one in the Ancestral Realm, which would put an end to his goal of living in peace with his family.
Could he do nothing? If he did nothing, he wouldn't be able to protect his family from the Deities or Devils vying for power. Worse, he would be powerless in the face of the war of absolute dimensions, something which was already established. Then, if he did nothing, the day would come when even if his family members became immortals, they would have no home to be in and would risk annihilation!
Minos could never accept that!
The alternative to this was to reach the peak, challenge the strongest beings in existence, those that Minos ideally didn't want to face and, at least now, wasn't prepared to!
After a long time thinking about it, Minos saw that there was no way he could decide on something so important and new in his life without more time to think.
"Sigh, I feel I'll have to make Senior Lydis wait. Right now, I can only go for what I'm sure I need and can get as I am right now."
