Chapter 462: Chapter 298: The Biggest Stunt in Livestreaming History
In Villain, a military parade was held to showcase their "mighty" military power.
They were also preparing to launch their final offensive against the Augustine City State.
The war was turning increasingly against them. Villain’s military resources were being rapidly depleted; without raw materials, their production lines sat idle.
Loman’s aid was no longer as unlimited as before. For one, it was too expensive, and even the Loman Empire was feeling the pinch. For another, they felt Villain’s performance was simply pathetic—they couldn’t win even with all that help.
Another reason was that the Loman Imperial Army was rife with corruption. A single bag of screws could be expensed for Five Gold Coins, with the money going straight into Inspector Smith’s pocket.
In preparation for the parade, Villain set up numerous camera angles, striving to capture the perfect footage that would fill anyone who watched the recording with admiration for Villain’s army.
However, they weren’t broadcasting it live. Nowadays, to do a live broadcast, you have to hire a team from the Zog Group.
And the Zog Group was currently on Villain’s blacklist.
A pre-recorded broadcast was much easier. They could buy equipment from other brands.
This was a bit of self-deception. The Zog Group’s status in the camera equipment industry was like that of the dominant player in the graphics card market; products might carry other brand names, but the core components all came from the same source.
It was a move to save face, making them look slightly better than if they had bought Zog Group products directly—but only slightly.
As for Zog, though uninvited, he was there.
And he wasn’t alone; the live broadcast team had arrived as well.
It was just from a rather undignified angle.
Not far from the parade square, in an inconspicuous corner, a concealed Legendary Wanderer Thief—having bypassed all of Villain’s security wards—was aiming a sports camera at Morris, who was stationed at one of the official filming locations.
Due to the camera’s limitations, it lacked any long-range zoom, making the image blurry but still somewhat acceptable.
The footage was being transmitted directly to a broadcast team located in an unassuming house several kilometers away.
From there, the team relayed the feed to the Magic Vision Headquarters, which in turn broadcast it live across the entire Continent via Magic Vision and the internet.
Conveniently, due to Villain’s own censorship policies, no one inside the country could receive the live Magic Vision Station broadcast or access the website.
And so, completely unbeknownst to Villain, their grand military parade was being broadcast live from a very unorthodox angle.
So, why the live broadcast?
Because Zog was almost certain that Morris would detonate all the Mechanical Armors during the parade, right as the procession passed by.
This was Morris’s one and only opportunity to access the Mechanical Armors. His last chance. After the parade, they would be deployed to the battlefield.
Besides, he’d written the entire plan down in his diary.
This is why decent people shouldn’t keep diaries.
Zog had hired three Legendary Wanderer Thieves from the Adventurer Guild in total, a price that was a mere trifle for him these days.
Compared to the future profits this live broadcast would generate, the cost was negligible.
’The money you make doing fieldwork is peanuts, really.’
The three Thieves took shifts monitoring Morris, tasked with figuring out the exact timing of his move.
They had to ensure the moment all the Mechanical Armors went up in a fireworks display was perfectly captured.
They had even secretly planted a listening device on Morris. From the audio they’d gathered, it was clear his mental state was on the verge of collapse; he was constantly muttering to himself.
’After I get him out,’ Zog thought, ’I’ll need to find him a good psychologist.’
To ensure they could extract Morris successfully, Zog had assembled an all-star lineup.
Inside that one small house were gathered not only Zog, but also Furin and Doudou—three Ancient Dragons.
Also present were several elders from the Mage Guild, led by Elf Saint El. Of course, the one elder from Loman was being ostracized.
The silent treatment from the senior citizens’ club!
However, the key player in this operation was Elder Xiao Xiong, who was responsible for teleporting Morris out. The others were there for planning, support, and to handle any unforeseen circumstances.
To be honest, the combat power assembled in this small house was enough to wipe Villain off the map, but Zog had no intention of doing so.
First, there were too many civilians. Just because Villain targeted its own people didn’t mean he had to sink to their level.
Second, the struggle and resistance of the little guy is far more compelling.
It was like the old saying goes: you can’t always wait for a savior to descend from the heavens and solve all your problems. Ultimately, people have to rely on themselves.
Oh, and I forgot. That wasn’t everyone. Asmodis was also there, just to watch the show.
"Seriously, what are you even doing here?" Zog didn’t understand why this old Devil had so shamelessly insisted on tagging along.
The kind of things he did were even more violent than Zog’s. These days, Zog could at least write a few small magical programs.
As for Asmodis, the spells he knew were all of a nihilistic, scorched-earth style.
It was only good for killing, killing, killing, killing, killing, killing, killing...
"Observing and learning," Asmodis replied. "My intuition tells me that whatever stunt you’re about to pull is something humans will absolutely love. The propaganda efforts of Devils can’t rely on you alone. We have to make an effort ourselves."
"You’re... surprisingly eager to learn."
Zog hadn’t expected the old Devil’s reasoning to be so sound.
"Quick, look! The parade is starting," Asmodis said, more invested in the operation than Zog himself.
Zog looked at the blurry monitor feed. The Thief actually had a good eye for cinematography. Instead of just staring at Morris, he knew to pan out for a wide shot of the entire parade.
