Chapter 461: Chapter 297: Zog Always Appears at the Most Crucial Moment (2)

Morris was woken from a dream of burning a barely clothed child to a crisp with the Flame Strike Technique.

He shot up from his bed, his forehead covered in cold sweat.

KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK!

The person outside was still banging on the door.

"It’s Sir Gordo! Something’s happened to Sir Gordo!"

"What!"

Morris hurriedly opened the door.

"What happened to Sir Gordo?"

Outside the door was another colleague from the video production team, one who was on pretty good terms with Morris.

The colleague hated this war just as much, but he was in a better mental state. He treated his work as just a normal, salaried job. As for the impact of what he produced, he forced himself to ignore it and not think about it.

Morris envied that state of mind, but he was completely incapable of achieving it.

"It’s hard to explain. Hurry, come with me. Sir Gordo is in a standoff with the ’Big Star’ Brigadier General," the colleague said.

"Big Star" was a nickname for the Brigadier General, given to him by people in the advisory group who couldn’t stand Douglas.

It was a very fitting nickname.

It perfectly captured Douglas’s habit of looking for the camera first, no matter where he went.

’It felt like joining the army was a complete waste of his talent. If his father and grandfather hadn’t also been high-ranking generals, he probably wouldn’t have joined the military.’

’He might have applied for a job in the Zog Group’s PR or advertising department. With his skills, he definitely could have made something of himself.’

Morris hurriedly threw on some clothes and ran off with his colleague.

He was popular, but he had few true friends.

Sir Gordo was one of his closest friends, holding a place in his heart almost equal to his own younger brother, Little Morris.

"A standoff? Why a standoff?" Morris asked as they ran.

"Apparently, Sir Gordo was about to activate the self-destruct system on the latest batch of Mechanical Armor his clan delivered, but someone caught him in the act."

The Craig Clan’s new models of Mechanical Armor were all well-suited for war. To prevent them from being captured and used as enemy weapons, every Mechanical Armor was equipped with a self-destruct system.

It wasn’t a simple deactivation, but a massive explosion.

It was considered a Mechanical Armor’s final offensive measure.

Morris fell silent.

’He knew that deep down, Sir Gordo loathed the war even more than he did, and he hated his family’s business too.’

’That’s why he’d tried so hard to pivot the business, shifting to invest in entertainment and variety show projects.’

’But breaking away from the clan wasn’t so easy. Perhaps the head of the Craig Clan knew of Gordo’s disgust and had deliberately sent him here.’

’It was a rather malicious move.’

’It’s just that the Craig patriarch likely never expected Sir Gordo to do something so extreme.’

’To just make the whole new batch of Mechanical Armor self-destruct.’

’Wait, can an entire batch of Mechanical Armor be triggered to self-destruct all at once?’

The two of them ran to where Sir Gordo and Brigadier General Douglas were.

Because the incident had happened so suddenly, the area hadn’t been cleared, and no one had resorted to violence yet.

The main reason was Roline standing behind Sir Gordo. If they were to use all the military force at their disposal, subduing the Legendary Spider Elf wouldn’t be impossible.

But no one could be sure of the losses they would suffer or the terrifying scale of destruction that would result.

When you’re strong enough, the whole world becomes more polite.

"Sir Gordo, Loman and Villain trusted you so completely, yet you commit this act of betrayal! You’ve not only betrayed our contract, but you’ve also betrayed your clan. The Craig Clan will be shamed because of you!"

Sir Gordo offered no rebuttal to Brigadier General Douglas’s accusation, because he had, in fact, intended to destroy the Mechanical Armors.

’He’d had enough of all this. He no longer wanted to use gentle measures to protest.’

’I’m tired. Might as well just destroy everything.’

"You must take responsibility for your actions! Hand over your Self-destruct Rune Stone, and we’ll see you in court!" Brigadier General Douglas shouted himself hoarse.

’He had originally thought leading the advisory group would be a simple gig to pad his resume. He’d easily take the Augustine City State, receive commendations, and then go on a speaking tour.’

’Everything in the plan had been so perfect.’

’Who could have guessed that such a tiny, godforsaken place would have so many problems?’

’First, the video leak. Then, the Augustine resistance received aid, and the front lines came to a stalemate.’

’Now, his Mechanical Armor partner was causing problems. It was giving him a headache just thinking about it.’

’He was already trying to figure out how to shift the blame.’

In contrast to the agitated Douglas, Sir Gordo appeared quite calm, though his spirits were low—likely out of dejection that his plan had failed.

Sir Gordo said, "I won’t give you the Rune Stone, and I’m not going to court. We are leaving."

"Leaving?" Douglas thought he must have misheard. He’d never seen such an arrogant culprit. "Hahaha, are you kidding me?"

It wasn’t Sir Gordo who answered, but Roline.

"If you let us leave, we can pretend none of this ever happened."

Her tone was as dismissive as Douglas’s would be if he were the one breaking a contract.

"If you want to resort to force, then I’ll have no choice but to self-destruct right here. I’m sure you don’t want a Legendary Mage to self-destruct, do you?

"Besides, if anything happens to me here, the Zor City State will remember you. Believe me, you will never know a day of peace again."

A threat. A naked threat.

But there was nothing Douglas could do.

The destruction caused by a Legendary Mage self-destructing wouldn’t be limited to the scope of their headquarters. More than half of the city would likely be destroyed.

And of course, Douglas himself wouldn’t be safe either.

The Brigadier General was so furious the flesh on his face quivered.

But for all his quivering rage, he couldn’t change a thing. In the end, he could only grit his teeth and agree to Gordo and Roline’s terms.

When you’re strong enough, not only does the world become more polite, it also allows you to be "appropriately" unreasonable.

And so, Sir Gordo and Lady Roline calmly departed.

To prevent assassins from using Teleportation Spells for decapitation strikes, such magic was restricted indoors.

The pair walked through the crowd. As they passed Morris, Gordo avoided looking at him to prevent raising suspicion. Lady Roline, however, threw Morris a glance.

They then went outside and teleported away.

They returned to Twin Tower City.

"Sigh..."

Gordo sighed helplessly. He had now made a complete break with the Craig Clan, but he hadn’t accomplished his goal. The Mechanical Armors he’d wanted to destroy remained intact.

Villain’s army now had a new batch of equipment.

It was the single largest shipment of equipment since the war began. After Augustine received aid, Villain had ramped up its armaments in response.

’If I could have destroyed this shipment, it would have been a major blow to them. Even if they reordered, it would take the Craig Clan some time to produce more.’

’What a shame.’

’And the carefully prepared Rune Stone went unused.’

’Wait a minute, where’s the Rune Stone?’

Sir Gordo was shocked to discover that the Rune Stone, which should have been in his pocket, hadn’t teleported back with him.

"Where did it go? The Rune Stone!"

That particular Rune Stone could only trigger the Mechanical Armors’ self-destruct sequence at close range. He had wanted to see if it could be modified for remote activation; even if he couldn’t detonate the whole batch, destroying one or two would have been something.

"Morris took it," Roline answered.

"Morris? When did he take it?"

"As we were leaving."

"Why would he take the Rune Stone?"

The moment Sir Gordo asked, he understood. ’What else could it be used for? That thing only has one purpose.’

"He’s still so young! You noticed, didn’t you? Why didn’t you stop him?" Sir Gordo pressed Roline urgently.

"I respect his choice, just as I respect yours," Roline replied.

"No! We can’t let him do something so foolish! We have to find a way to get him out!"

"We can’t."

"So we’re just supposed to watch him go to his death? Wait... Zog! Zog can definitely do it."

「A few minutes later, in Zog’s office.」

"You’re saying Morris might try to detonate a large batch of Mechanical Armors himself."

"Yes."

"And a suicidal detonation at that."

"Yes. That’s why I want to rescue him."

"What a talent!" Zog couldn’t help but exclaim.

"This isn’t about whether he’s a talent or not, a man is about to die!" Sir Gordo said, frantic.

"There’s a way to save the man, and it’d be best if the Mechanical Armors get blown up too. Elsa, contact the Adventurer Guild. I need to find a Legendary Wanderer—one who specializes in stealth. It’d be even better if they’re skilled with an action camera!"
