Chapter 337: Chapter 250: The Three-Dragon Face-Rush Plan (Part 2)
Furin shook her head. "That won’t work. I at least need to confirm the total number of targets and their general locations. If I just cast a wide-area Illusion Technique, someone might escape."
Zog scratched his head. ’Charging in blind was never a good sign.’
"What about the Complete Transformation Technique, then? You could turn into a small flying insect or something and go in to check things out."
He got the idea from the Great Sage Equal to Heaven. On the Westward Road, the Great Sage often used his seventy-two transformations to turn into all sorts of small insects to gather information.
"When I use the Complete Transformation Technique, my own abilities are replaced by those of my new form."
Furin gave him a look that said, ’How do you not know this?’
"If I turn into an insect, my intelligence will become that of an insect. How am I supposed to understand anything then?"
’One star. This Transformation Technique sucks.’
If there was really no other way, Zog figured he’d have to cast the Invisibility Technique on a remote-controlled camera and teleport it inside.
The only risk was that the landing spot of a blind teleport was uncertain. It would be pretty awkward if it accidentally teleported into a wall or something.
Just then, Zog suddenly caught a rare scent.
He took a careful sniff.
"Did you guys smell that? I think it’s... the smell of a Demon. Is there a Demon in that house?"
"I don’t smell anything. In my Human form, my sense of smell is also Human. Besides, even if I did smell something, shouldn’t it be a Devil? Mammon isn’t a Demon."
"I’m certain."
It smelled exactly the same as the Demons he’d encountered in Hell.
The presence of a Demon gave Zog a great idea.
"Here’s the plan. How about you two disguise yourselves as members of the Royal City Guard Corps. Say you’re following up on a report of a suspected Demon sighting and need to investigate. That way, you can both enter the house without a fight, then find the right moment to cast the Illusion Technique."
"Why the two of us?" Furin challenged. "What about you?"
"I can’t turn into a Human. Come on, we can’t miss this chance. I’ll go find you two Guard Corps uniforms."
"No need," Doudou stopped Zog. "I already have Guard Corps uniforms."
As he spoke, he summoned his Treasure Chest Monster and pulled out two Guard Corps uniforms.
"Hold on, why do you have something like this in your Treasure Chest Monster?"
"Occupational cosplay is a subgenre of role-playing. And this is a uniform, after all," Doudou the cosplay enthusiast replied, as if it were the most natural thing in the world.
Otaku culture for the win.
"Fair enough," Zog said, showing his understanding. ’It’s just a uniform. In the world of cosplay, it’s about as normal as a costume can get.’
He’d seen people walk down the street in even more bizarre cosplay, completely unfazed by the stares of others. Their conviction was top-tier.
After a quick change, Furin and Doudou, now transformed into two burly members of the Guard Corps, arrived in front of the target house.
BANG! BANG!
The knocking was brutal.
That arrogant energy felt just like the real Guard Corps.
"Open up, Guard Corps!"
Two full minutes passed with no response.
THUD! THUD!
Doudou knocked even harder.
"You have one minute. If you don’t open the door, we will use force."
Finally, under threat, someone opened the door a crack.
From the crack emerged a sickly, emaciated face, so drained of life it looked like it belonged to a man on his deathbed.
From a distance, Zog saw the face and matched it with a figure from his memory.
’Is that... the former Chairman of the Drama Guild? He’s so thin he’s unrecognizable.’
"What is it?" the former Chairman asked, his voice weak and listless.
"We have a report of a Demon sighting in this house. We need to investigate."
"That’s impossible. Someone must have made a mistake and filed a false report. Heh heh heh."
"We’re not asking for your permission, we’re telling you. Hiding a Demon in the Royal City is a capital offense."
The Guard Corps’s enforcement method had always been "guilty until proven innocent," and they were also fond of using the Great Memory Recovery Technique.
With these two techniques in their arsenal, the Guard Corps’s case-closure rate had always been high. Don’t ask if they got the right guy, just know that the case was closed.
"This has to be a misunderstanding. May I see your insignia?"
The insignia served as the Guard Corps’s identification, proving their official status.
As expected of a high-end cosplayer, Doudou had all the props ready. He immediately displayed the insignia.
Seeing the proof of identity, the former Chairman finally opened the door.
"You must believe me, we’re all upstanding citizens here."
With that, he led the Dragons into the house.
After Furin and Doudou went inside, he cautiously glanced up and down the street, but failed to notice Zog, who was hiding on the roof with his Invisibility Technique already active.
Waiting made a Dragon antsy.
Zog paced back and forth on the roof, waiting for good news from the other two Dragons.
There shouldn’t be any problems, logically speaking. It wasn’t as if a suburban house could be hiding dozens of Legendary-level individuals. Anything less than that wouldn’t pose much of a threat.
Besides, if there were any high-level fighters inside, Zog’s Perception should have picked them up already.
Still, he couldn’t help but worry about some dirty trick or nasty surprise.
After five excruciatingly long minutes, Doudou finally sent a message.
"It’s done! Come quick!"
Zog glided down from the roof and entered the mysterious house.
Doudou was waiting just inside the door, his expression one of pure excitement.
"Oh, my God, Zog, you will not believe what they’ve made. I’ve lived for so many years and I’ve never seen anything this bizarre. It’s just so wrong."
Doudou rambled on, still reeling from the shock.
"Humans are the cruelest ones... To think they could do something like this to their own kind..."
Zog followed Doudou to find Furin.
Furin was in the first-floor living room.
Besides her, there were three other people in the room, including the former Chairman who had opened the door. They each had a strange scar on the back of their head and were holding weapons. Apparently, their original plan had been to dispose of the two unexpected visitors from the Guard Corps.
