The People's God: Sacrificing Trillions to Ascend
Chapter 1067 - Let’s Make A Bet
While Han Wu was considering a solution, the test was already progressing. The contestants ahead of him summoned their units one after another and attacked the Wooden Dragon Post.
Fire, ice, lightning, wind, claws, and even full-body tackles were unleashed. Every conceivable attack method was on display.
The Wooden Dragon Post absorbed each hit silently and returned a damage value. The contestants at the front all had Microcosm units, so their scores exceeded one, with the lowest hovering around two or three.[1]
The highest was an impressive 9.8, achieved by Long Xiang’s Tyrannosaurus Rex. Its bite force was staggering, nearly on par with that of a Subcosm life form. Even a Subcosm fighter caught in those jaws wouldn’t walk away unscathed.
As Han Wu mulled things over, another Ancient Dragon Clan member stepped up for the test. His approach differed from everyone else’s. Rather than having his core race attack directly, he used a skill to fuse with his Steel Drake, then threw a punch at the Wooden Dragon Post himself. The hit scored 7.9.
The referee raised an eyebrow and recorded the result. This gave Han Wu an idea. If the Yinglong couldn’t do it alone, he could go up there together with it. He had exactly the ability he needed.
While Han Wu was formulating his plan, Long Lin stepped up ahead of him. Before starting the test, Long Lin turned toward Han Wu and announced, “Someone claimed yesterday that his score put him in first place. After this round, I’m guessing that he’ll be dead last.”
Long Lin didn’t name anyone, but everyone knew he was talking about Han Wu.
The referee didn’t appreciate it, but he didn’t want to call Long Lin out in front of everyone either. He simply urged him to hurry up.
Long Lin nodded and summoned his Subcosm Great Dragon. It unleashed a devastating blow against the Wooden Dragon Post and shattered it on impact. Moments later, the damage value appeared. He scored 13.4.
Not only did he break the Subcosm benchmark of ten, but he also surpassed it by a wide margin. Some of the contestants friendly with Long Lin had already started congratulating him. They were convinced he’d claim first place in this round. As for Han Wu and his Heavenrender Yinglong, what could it possibly do?
“Hmph! See that? That’s real strength!” Long Lin boasted.
Han Wu was tempted to unleash his Mesocosm aura right then and there to scare Long Lin. On second thought, though, he decided against it. There was an old saying that fit the situation perfectly.
If a dog bites you, do you bite it back? Of course not. Han Wu would catch the dog, skin it, debone it, and make soup![2]
It was his turn now. Under everyone’s watchful eyes, he summoned the Yinglong. The Heavenrender aura it radiated drew laughter from the crowd. They had assumed Han Wu was hiding some secret weapon, but it turned out to be the same old thing.
“He’s not from the Ancient Dragon Clan, after all. Such a promising dragon, yet he couldn’t even raise it properly.” The referee shook his head as if mourning the Yinglong’s wasted potential.
Han Wu chuckled, then turned toward Long Lin, who was laughing the hardest. “You don’t like me very much, do you? How about a bet?”
Long Lin didn’t take him seriously at all. “A bet on what? Whether you can even score above one? That’s going to be tough.”
Han Wu ignored the mockery. “I’ll bet that I can score higher than you.”
“Are you dreaming? What makes you think you can do that? With that Heavenrender unit of yours?”
“Brother Long Lin scored 13.4! What are you going to use? You’d have better odds betting that you can make the Wooden Dragon Post have diarrhea.”
The jeers had no effect on Han Wu. He kept his eyes locked on Long Lin. “What’s the matter? Scared?”
“Me? Scared? I’m just worried you’re a sore loser!” Long Lin shot back.
The elders had told him that Han Wu was the Ancient Dragon Clan’s honored guest, but he had no idea how strong Han Wu really was.
The referee and Long Xiang both knew Han Wu’s real power. The problem was that this test measured the core race’s attack power. If Han Wu bypassed his units entirely, the rules wouldn’t allow it, and the result wouldn’t count.
Everyone stared at Han Wu, but no one knew what he was planning.
“If I score higher than you, I don’t want much. Just give me a sincere apology.”
The referee nodded approvingly. Long Lin had provoked Han Wu repeatedly. An apology was about the lightest punishment imaginable.
“What if you lose?” Long Lin’s face twisted with amusement. There was no way he could lose.
“You decide,” Han Wu said with full confidence.
“Fine. If you lose, you kneel and kowtow to everyone you’ve offended.”
That struck a chord with several contestants. The Golden Scarab’s ability from two days ago was still seared into their memories. Some of them still felt nauseous whenever they thought about it.
Long Xiang stepped forward and stood between Han Wu and Long Lin. “Long Lin, he’s a guest of the Ancient Dragon Clan. He’s someone my great-grandfather values! You can’t handle the consequences if something happens to him.”
“Don’t wave the ancestor at me. All I want is fairness,” Long Lin snapped. “You already got a free ride from him, Long Xiang, so don’t come over here playing the good guy. Without his help, that dinosaur of yours wouldn’t have even reached the top twenty.”
Long Xiang growled. He wanted to keep arguing for Han Wu’s sake, but the latter raised a hand to stop him. “Deal. We will do it your way.”
Long Lin could barely contain his excitement at the thought of Han Wu kowtowing. “Then let’s see it. Show me how you plan to hit harder than me.”
Han Wu approached the Yinglong, placed his hand on it, and muttered, “Monster Armor.”
Long ago, Han Wu had obtained a sliver of the Monster Armor Will and integrated it into his divine realm. He rarely used it because its functionality had been unremarkable. Now, however, it was perfect for the situation.
The Yinglong responded at once. It reshaped itself and ultimately transformed into a sleek suit of armor that covered Han Wu from head to toe. Han Wu flexed his limbs briefly, suppressed his aura, and threw a simple punch at the Wooden Dragon Post.
The fist didn’t even make contact. The Wooden Dragon Post exploded into countless fragments, which scattered across the ground.
A long time passed, but no score appeared.
Stunned silence engulfed the arena. Nobody understood what had just happened.
The referee examined the shattered remains for a long moment before arriving at a conclusion. “Han Wu’s attack exceeded the Wooden Dragon Post’s measurement threshold.”
