The People's God: Sacrificing Trillions to Ascend
Chapter 1029 - Might As Well Since We Are Here
Ah Tai shrank and returned to Han Wu’s side with a captive in each hand.
Gu Feng was dragged before Han Wu in a daze. In the end, I still lost to this kid.
“Nice work,” Han Wu praised Ah Tai. The latter scratched the back of its head with one massive hand and grinned sheepishly.
Han Wu turned his attention to Gu Feng, who lay on the ground. The current Dark God King was critically wounded and had no strength left to resist. This was the perfect moment to kill him.
Even so, killing him outright felt wasteful. At most, Han Wu would gain some benefit from Sacrifice and obtain the Dark Jurisdiction and a few Divine Aspect shards. Compared to the Destruction Clan’s cultivation methods for their units, those benefits were insignificant.
“Elder Gu, if you share the Destruction Clan’s method for cultivating units, I may spare your life,” Han Wu offered. It was the greatest concession he was willing to make.
Gu Feng snorted. “Don’t play cheap tricks with me. Spare my life? Don’t make me laugh. Would you really let me keep the Dark Jurisdiction and my Destruction Energy and walk away alive?”
“Of course not,” Han Wu replied bluntly.
His idea of sparing Gu Feng meant destroying his divine realm, extracting the Dark Jurisdiction, shattering every one of his Divine Aspects, and then dumping him on a barren Microcosm within his consciousness to fend for himself.
Gu Feng refused. He’d rather die than live like that.
“The Destruction Clan is finished. I’ve failed our ancestors. If you have any guts at all, just kill me and let them judge me.”
The look on Gu Feng’s face said it all. Nothing could be worse than that. His lifelong wish had been to revive the Destruction Clan, yet the clan had been completely wiped out, while he was on the verge of execution. There was nothing more for him to look forward to.
Han Wu saw that Gu Feng didn’t fear him and gestured to the Origin of Mutation, who dragged his two test subjects into view. Gu Bei and the other clan member were hauled out like dead dogs.
Gu Feng’s eyes grew wet the moment he saw Gu Bei. In the young man, he saw a chance for the Destruction Clan’s bloodline to continue.
Han Wu approached the two captives. “These two are Destruction Clan members I captured before Wildlion City fell. If you want them to take the Destruction Clan’s cultivation secrets to the grave, keep your mouth shut.”
Gu Feng’s lips trembled. He didn’t know whether he should betray his ancestors this way.
Han Wu didn’t waste any more words. A glance to the Origin of Mutation was all it took. The latter grabbed the other clan member by the head and ripped it clean off.
Two surviving members of the Destruction Clan had remained. Now there was one.
Gu Feng broke. He had to do whatever he could to protect the Destruction Clan’s future. “I’ll tell you the cultivation method. Just promise me that Gu Bei will walk out of here alive.”
“Done.” Han Wu was overjoyed that he finally obtained what he wanted.
Gu Feng tried to negotiate further. “Release him first. I’ll talk once he’s gone.”
Han Wu furrowed his brows. “Elder Gu, I think you’ve forgotten who’s in charge here. You’re the prisoner, and I’m the victor. You have my word. If you hold up your end, I’ll hold up mine. Keep stalling, and the Destruction Clan dies out for good.”
At last, Gu Feng caved and revealed the Destruction Clan’s cultivation methods for their units in full.
Han Wu and the others listened intently, with Qin Shuang paying especially close attention. When Gu Feng described how he had raised the Calamity Crossbird, she started taking notes on the spot so that she could apply them to her Thunder Sparrows.
The Origin of Mutation listened alongside them and conducted his own analysis. He confirmed that everything Gu Feng had said checked out.
Han Wu kept his promise and released Gu Bei. Then, the moment Gu Bei had taken a few steps, he ordered his units to grab him and bring him back.
The dying Gu Feng nearly leapt to his feet. He spent the last of his strength screaming for a final showdown. “You promised me! You said you’d let Gu Bei live! You liar, you despicable, shameless...”
Han Wu was completely unfazed. “You can curse all you like. Just answer me this. Is Gu Bei alive? Did I release him or not?”
The surrounding units burst into laughter. Han Wu had technically kept his word. He had released the man, but the latter simply hadn’t made it very far before he was caught again.
“You... You... You...” Gu Feng sputtered. He couldn’t force out another word. His eyes bulged, and his legs shot straight out as his life force began to drain rapidly.
Han Wu immediately ordered his units to stabilize Gu Feng’s heart and keep him alive. The reason was simple: he couldn’t use Sacrifice within the Beast Tamer Civilization. Its rules restricted all Jurisdictions, including Han Wu’s. It was better to keep Gu Feng alive and kill him after they left.
Gu Bei was tossed back to the Origin of Mutation so he could continue his experiment.
With that, the Destruction Clan was thoroughly eliminated. The mission was complete, but Han Wu had no intention of leaving just yet. They were already in the Beast Tamer Civilization, and he had mobilized a massive force for this campaign. It would be a waste not to squeeze out a little more profit before heading home.
At Han Wu’s command, Jing Jing unleashed the skeleton sea once more and began attacking every city across the civilization. Weaker cities fell to the skeleton sea, while stronger ones fell to Han Wu’s units.
Qin Shuang benefited enormously from the campaign as well. Using Gu Feng’s methods, she modified her Thunder Sparrows and successfully bred the first Thunder Sparrow that wielded Destruction Energy.
