Chapter 503: Chapter 470: Mermaid Gauze

“I plan on sending a bolt of Jue Sha to the Flame.”

“The Flame is holding an auction at the end of the year. It needs a grand finale item, and Jue Sha would be perfect.”

However, the only reason she was willing to part with it was that she had found a way to produce Jue Sha herself.

It was a simplified version of Jue Sha, but for the people of this world, it was more than enough.

The Yun family all knew how much Yun Jiao treasured that Jue Sha.

So far, she had only used it to make three outfits.

To them, it was a consumable item that dwindled with each use.

Yun Jiao smiled and said, “Mom, you don’t have to worry. I’ve found people who can make Jue Sha.”

It was an accidental discovery. Last year, Yun Jiao had swum to a place shrouded in a persistent mist. That area was the legendary Devil’s Sea Area, from which no ship had ever returned.

Upon entering, all navigation systems would fail. The mist also seemed to contain a special substance that caused those who stayed too long to fall into hallucinations, seeing things they feared.

But none of that affected Yun Jiao.

After venturing inside, she discovered an isolated island deep within the mist.

It was on that island that she found the Water Weaver tribe, who were expert divers.

These people, both men and women, could hold their breath underwater for about half an hour and dive to great depths.

The island was also home to a special type of silkworm. These silkworms fed on a specific kind of seaweed, and the silk they produced was the main material for weaving Jue Sha.

Yun Jiao lived on the island for a while and also discovered some traces of the Merfolk’s existence.

For example, some Merfolk scales or skeletons.

But the Merfolk were already extinct. The people on the island were skilled in the water, but unlike Yun Jiao, they couldn’t breathe and live directly in it.

They were the descendants of interbreeding between Merfolk and the Human Clan.

With the Merfolk extinct, their bloodline had been diluted through generations of reproduction, to the point where the Merfolk blood within them was almost non-existent.

Because Yun Jiao was one of the Merfolk, the people treated her with relative kindness.

But when Yun Jiao suggested they leave the island, they were extremely resistant.

Not until they brought up some of the tragic history of their tribe.

Only then did Yun Jiao learn that because of their skill in weaving Jue Sha, their tribe had been targeted by the powerful and the Royal Family in ancient times. To enslave them and force them to weave the priceless Jue Sha, they were nearly wiped out several times.

Later, they found this suitable hiding place and never left again.

Generation after generation, the rule “Do not leave Mist Island” became an ancestral decree. If someone was determined to leave, they wouldn’t be stopped, but they could never hope to return.

Yun Jiao told the story of the Water Weavers to her family.

“So don’t worry about the Jue Sha. I’ve already placed an order with them, but it’s rare—it takes about a year to produce a single bolt.”

Because the materials were so hard to come by.

It required not only the silk from those silkworms but also their own cultivated pearls and some special materials from the deep sea.

But because of its rarity and unique properties, this Jue Sha could serve as a guaranteed feature auction item for the Flame.

Shen Yunlian sighed. “The Water Weavers have it so hard. Maybe they’re right not to come out. If they really did, who knows how they’d be tricked and taken advantage of.”

Yun Jiao nodded. “But their lives are so monotonous and boring. They don’t get any signal or anything over there, so I was thinking of bringing them some novels or video game consoles next time.”

‘I’ll have to screen the novels carefully, though. Can’t bring any with bizarre values or that are all about being love-struck.’

‘What if I turn them all into hopeless romantics?’

Yun Jiao sighed. “But there’s one problem that’s not easy to solve. The people on the island have always intermarried within the tribe. After so many years, almost everyone is related. Their bloodline doesn’t seem to produce children with birth defects, but the birth rate is getting lower and lower. When I was on the island, I saw no more than thirteen children under the age of twelve.”

Shen Yunlian and the others stared with wide eyes.

Their own village had more than thirteen babies born in a single year.

At this rate, the Water Weaver tribe wouldn’t even need an outside threat; they would go extinct on their own due to their dwindling population and declining birth rate!

“Then what can be done?”

Even if it was just for the sake of the Jue Sha, Yun Jiao wanted to solve this problem.

Yun Jiao thought for a moment. “I’ll go to the island another day and discuss it with their tribal leader. We should probably bring some of the young men and women out.”

That was the only way.

Putting the matter of the Water Weavers aside for now, Yun Jiao took advantage of the time her brothers were home. Plus, it was vacation—after the college entrance exams, there was a long stretch of time for fun.

So she decided to take everyone out to have fun on the sea.

The vessel was a small cruise ship.

As the leader of the Flame, it was incredibly easy for Yun Jiao to get a cruise ship now.

Just as they were about to set off, Yun Jiao was surprised to see her eldest and second brothers’ girlfriends arrive.

That’s right, both of them were in relationships.

Both young women were very beautiful. Her eldest brother’s girlfriend was a female soldier who looked heroic and dashing, with a forthright and generous personality.

Her second brother’s girlfriend was a doctor with a gentler personality.

Shen Yunlian was absolutely delighted looking at her two prospective daughters-in-law; the more she saw them, the more she liked them.

The two were also very polite, bringing gifts for everyone, including Yun Jiao, of course.

Yun Jiao was a sweet-talker, calling them “sisters-in-law.” Coupled with her good looks, which made her resemble a large porcelain doll, she was easy to like. People are visual creatures—or to put it bluntly, suckers for a pretty face.

The two of them also grew very fond of Yun Jiao.

They even wished that if they had children in the future, they would have a daughter just like Yun Jiao, one they would surely cherish and dote on.

The three of them hit it off right away.

In addition, Fu Mingyu also arrived with Bubai.

It was Shen Yunlian and the others who had called and urged Fu Mingyu to come.

Ever since he went to the Capital to study, he would come to Bailong Village whenever he had time, whether it was summer or winter break.

You could say the whole family already considered him the Yun family’s unofficial son.

Once everyone had arrived, Yun Jiao led them onto the ship and set off for some fun on the sea!
