The Ocean's Little Tyrant: A Mermaid Baby Conquers the 80s
Chapter 500: Return
Chapter 500: Chapter 469: Return
Now that she was back, it was time to visit family and friends.
First up was her master.
Yun Jiao went first thing the next morning.
She wore a hat to cover her hair and got in line with the other patients, planning to give her master and the others a surprise.
The line was moving slowly, but Yun Jiao kept herself busy by observing the faces and conditions of the patients, diagnosing their illnesses.
She even struck up a conversation with an old lady next to her.
“You said you study medicine too? Then why are you here to see a doctor?”
Yun Jiao replied, “Because I’ve heard everyone say that Elder Xu here is incredible. I have a few questions I’d like to ask him.”
The old lady nodded. “You’ve come to the right place, then. Doctor Xu really is amazing. Sometimes he knows what’s wrong with someone before he even takes their pulse. And all those illnesses that require machines for diagnosis at the hospital, or hospitalization with IV drips, or even surgery—Elder Xu can cure them.”
Yun Jiao asked, “So, what are you here for?”
Just from looking at the old lady’s face, she couldn’t see any signs of illness.
“Let me take your pulse. See if I can figure it out?”
The old lady laughed. “You’ll never figure it out.”
Yun Jiao rolled up her sleeves. “Please, ma’am, let me try. I want to see how my studies have paid off.”
“All right, give it a try.”
The surrounding people were already bored and chatting amongst themselves. Seeing this, they all gathered around to watch the excitement.
Yun Jiao placed her fingers on the old lady’s pulse.
“Your blood pressure is slightly high, and you have a bit of internal heat. Other than that, there are just some minor issues from years of accumulated fatigue. Nothing major, but you need to take good care of yourself and recuperate.”
The old lady was surprised. “Wow, I didn’t expect you to really know your stuff, little lady.”
“My body… I do have some old aches and pains. Who didn’t work hard when they were young? Once you get old, your body is just a constant mess of problems. If it’s not one thing, it’s another. But you just bear with the pain and it passes. It’s nothing serious.”
Many of the elderly people listening could relate.
They were the same—they had overworked themselves when they were young, and now that they were older, they were plagued by all sorts of minor ailments.
What was even sadder was that many of them had to keep working hard even in their old age.
“However,” the old lady said with a smile, “I bet you can’t guess what I’m really here for today.”
Yun Jiao blinked. “You’re not here for general wellness?”
The old lady chuckled. “Nope, I’m not.”
She leaned in and whispered something in Yun Jiao’s ear.
Yun Jiao: …
‘This was something she really hadn’t expected. The old lady was here for hemorrhoids!’
‘Embarrassing. She definitely couldn’t diagnose *that* from a pulse reading.’
“Hehehe… I heard you can get medicine from this clinic, so I thought I’d get some to take home and try.”
Yun Jiao: “…Right.”
Soon, it was her turn.
Yun Jiao pulled down the brim of her hat and walked forward.
“What are your symptoms? Let me see your wrist.”
The voice belonged to Qin Xin. Yun Jiao looked up and held out her hand.
The moment Qin Xin placed her fingers on the wrist, her first thought was, ‘What a beautiful hand.’
Her second thought was, ‘Huh?’
‘Huh?!!!’
Qin Xin’s eyes flew open, and she seized Yun Jiao’s hand.
“Junior Sister!!!”
Her voice was so high that everyone else busy in the clinic froze and suddenly whipped their heads toward Yun Jiao.
Fourth Senior Brother Song Chengyou exclaimed, “It really is Junior Sister!”
“Master, Master! It’s Junior Sister! Junior Sister is back!”
Yun Jiao turned her beautiful blue eyes toward the old man sitting nearby.
Her eyes curved into crescents as a smile spread across her face.
“Master, I’m back.”
Elder Xu’s mustache trembled. He walked up to Yun Jiao, raised his hand, and tapped her on the forehead.
“So you still know the way back!”
Though his words were a reprimand, the underlying worry in his tone was unmistakable.
Yun Jiao clutched her forehead and smiled at him.
The clinic was still busy, so after talking for a bit, Yun Jiao started helping her master.
They worked until evening.
“Master, I’m heading home. I’ll come see you again soon.”
Elder Xu waved a dismissive hand. “Go on, get out of here.”
「The next day, Yun Jiao went to her grandmother’s house…」
She spent the next several days visiting, only going to school a week before the national college entrance exams.
She had skipped grades and was registered at the same county high school her brothers attended.
But she had only just shown up right before the exams.
The homeroom teacher of Class 1, Grade 12, had always known such a student was on her roster, but she never imagined the student would only show her face right before the college entrance exams.
However, when the teacher heard she had gone abroad to study, it all made sense.
‘This must be a child from a wealthy family.’
Still, the homeroom teacher was worried about her academic performance, so she gave her some practice tests to try.
Yun Jiao didn’t refuse and started working on them right there in the office.
