Chapter 495: Chapter 465
The next school break was winter break. Yun Jiao didn’t leave with the killer whale; it was too cold, and her family was worried.
Besides, their family had a visitor.
That’s right, it was Fu Mingyu.
He really did come find them during winter break.
Shen Yunlian opened the door. Looking at the tall young man before her, she almost didn’t recognize him.
Fu Mingyu, with his handsome and mostly expressionless face, greeted her in a somewhat constrained voice.
“Hello, Auntie.”
“You’re Fu Mingyu?!” Shen Yunlian exclaimed.
Fu Mingyu nodded.
Shen Yunlian immediately broke into a smile. “Oh my, hurry and come in! We haven’t seen you in so many years, and you’ve gotten so handsome.”
‘He was good-looking as a child, and he’s just as handsome now.’
Fu Mingyu’s skin had always been fair. Now that he was older, he possessed a cool, detached air, looking just like an exceptional young master from some ancient, noble family.
“Jiaojiao, Jiaojiao, hurry down and see who’s here!”
Yun Jiao was upstairs. Hearing her mom call, she came down with a piece of dried shrimp dangling from her mouth, shuffling along in fluffy slippers and pink-and-white rabbit pajamas.
As she reached the staircase, her eyes met Fu Mingyu’s in the living room.
His impassive eyes widened slightly.
“Fu Mingyu.”
She mumbled his name, then quickly finished off the dried shrimp in her mouth and pattered down the stairs in her slippers.
“I didn’t think you’d be the one to come find us first!”
Yun Jiao was overjoyed to see the friend she hadn’t met in years.
The corners of Fu Mingyu’s mouth lifted slightly, revealing a small smile.
‘It melted some of his icy-cold aura, making him look even more handsome.’
“Since you’re in the Capital now, is Grandpa Fu still in Qing City?”
Yun Jiao pulled up a stool and sat down beside him.
Although the two had only met when they were very young and hadn’t spent much time together, they had been writing to each other ever since.
They were like pen pals, sending each other their innermost thoughts and the trivial details of their daily lives.
Of course, each letter was also accompanied by local delicacies and recent photographs.
So, even though they hadn’t met again in person, they were both very familiar with how the other had grown up.
Because of this, during their first meeting as adults, they fell back into a comfortable familiarity after just a brief exchange.
“Mm. I don’t want to spend the New Year in the Capital.”
His voice held an inexplicable trace of grievance.
Yun Jiao looked at him with sympathy and affection.
After corresponding for so many years, Yun Jiao naturally knew about Fu Mingyu’s family situation.
‘His own mother had died young, his father had taken a new wife, and he had two younger half-siblings. Once his biological father married that stepmother, he became no different from a stepfather.’
‘The reason Fu Mingyu had been abducted by human traffickers back then was also that stepmother’s doing.’
‘But his father chose to cover for her.’
“Then you should spend the New Year at our house!”
Shen Yunlian also looked at Fu Mingyu with great sympathy. Jiaojiao had told them a little about the boy’s situation.
“That’s right. Spend the New Year with our family this year. And in the future, since you’ll still be studying in the Capital, you can come stay with us during breaks if you have nowhere else to go. Even for shorter holidays, if you’re stuck, we have a house in the Capital, you know. You can stay there.”
Listening to their supportive words, Fu Mingyu felt an emotion he recognized as happiness.
“Okay.”
‘He liked the Yun family.’
“Bubai will be here later, too.”
Yun Jiao’s face lit up. “I was just about to ask why Bubai didn’t come with you!”
Bubai was the little black puppy Fu Mingyu had taken with him all those years ago.
Yun Jiao had seen photos of Bubai before. He looked as if he’d been trained as a military dog—very proper and handsome.
Yun Xiaowu and the others had gone to town to buy supplies for the New Year. When they returned and saw Fu Mingyu, Yun Xiaowu immediately let out a whoop and rushed over to pull him into a hug.
“Xiao Fu! After all these years, we finally meet again!”
Although the expression on Fu Mingyu’s face didn’t change much, his eyes held a smile.
“Hey, why do you still have that same deadpan look on your face?”
Shen Yunlian smacked him on the back of the head. “Mind your manners.”
“It’s fine,” Fu Mingyu said.
Yun Xiaowu immediately puffed up his chest. “You hear that, Mom? Xiao Fu and I are brothers. This is just how brothers talk.”
In the afternoon, just before dinner, a car pulled up.
Nowadays, a car arriving in the village no longer drew a crowd.
At most, people would just be curious about which family was having relatives over.
After all, plenty of cars came to their village now.
Of course, many of them were cars driven by tourists.
“WOOF WOOF WOOF…”
The family’s dogs, Baozi and Tang Yuan, seemed to sense something and began barking as they circled the car.
Their barks were a mix of wariness and curiosity.
The rear car door opened, and out jumped a black dog. Its coat was sleek and glossy, its posture majestic, and its gaze sharp and intense.
