The Ocean's Little Tyrant: A Mermaid Baby Conquers the 80s
Chapter 140: Killer Whales Push the Boat
After hearing what Yun Jiao said, Yun Linhai and the others completely forgot about the oysters.
’What kind of fish could possibly be as big as Jiaojiao says?’
The three men hurried after Yun Jiao to the side of the boat.
When they got a clear look at the fish surrounded by the killer whales, they stared in disbelief.
They rubbed their eyes and looked again. "It really is a bluefin tuna!"
Overcome with excitement, Yun Linhe ran forward a few steps and dove into the sea.
Yun Linhai and Yun Chendong followed right behind him.
They’d had a few encounters with the killer whales already, so they weren’t afraid of the massive creatures anymore.
"Check if it’s still alive."
’Mazu, please,’ they prayed, ’don’t let it be dead. We haven’t even bled it yet.’
Many deep-sea fish have to be bled as soon as they’re caught, while they’re still alive. As a deep-sea fish struggles during a chase, its intense movements produce large amounts of lactic acid. This can make the meat taste sour or lose its firmness. Bleeding the fish preserves its texture and flavor.
Of course, Yun Linhai and the others didn’t know the specific science behind it. To them, it was simply tradition—the accumulated wisdom of generations of fishermen.
Luckily, the killer whales had only knocked it unconscious. Being towed through the water by Yun Jiao had given it some time to recover, and it was still alive.
It looked terrified, though, as if it could kick the bucket at any moment.
"Quick, let’s get it onto the boat and bleed it."
The three men worked together with Yun Jiao, using a fishing net to haul the bluefin tuna, which weighed over two hundred pounds, onto the boat.
The very first thing they did was bleed the bluefin tuna.
"HAHAHAHA! Aside from the big deep-sea fishing vessels, I’ve never heard of anyone around here catching a bluefin tuna!"
After successfully bleeding the bluefin tuna, the three men burst out laughing.
Yun Linhai and Yun Linhe were especially gleeful, the crow’s feet around their eyes deepening with their smiles.
Yun Linhe patted the bluefin tuna’s side. "We didn’t catch it, but Jiaojiao did. By extension, that basically means *we* caught it."
They were just so incredibly happy.
The thrill of it all still hadn’t subsided.
Yun Linhe hugged Yun Jiao and planted several kisses on her soft, chubby cheeks.
"How is our Jiaojiao so amazing? Catching a bluefin tuna this big!"
Yun Jiao wrinkled her nose. ’Gross.’
"Uncle Linhe, stop kissing me! Your spit, your spit!"
The spurned Yun Linhe just roared with laughter.
The killer whales below: *What’s with him? Did that human go crazy?*
Yun Linhai stood up. "We need to head back right away. There’s no ice on the boat, and we have to get this fish to the Daqing Restaurant while it’s still fresh."
"Right, right."
The reality of the situation hit Yun Linhe.
"We have to be quick."
Yun Jiao said, "I still have some fish and the Little Green Dragons with the turtle."
"Huh? Where is the sea turtle?"
Yun Jiao shook her head. "I don’t know. The turtle saw the killer whale group and swam off."
"Never mind that for now. This bluefin tuna is the priority. Let’s head back first."
Seeing how anxious they were, Yun Jiao thought for a moment before jumping into the sea.
"Jiaojiao, what are you doing?!"
With practiced ease, Yun Jiao climbed onto the back of a killer whale.
"Dad, Uncle Linhe, hold on tight!"
Before Yun Linhai and the others could even process what was happening, they saw Yun Jiao communicate something to the killer whale group. An instant later, two of the whales began pushing their boat from behind.
The boat lurched, and they scrambled to hold on.
The next second...
"AHHHHH!!!!"
The wooden boat shot across the surface of the sea.
The men on board lost their balance, tumbling across the deck. They quickly grabbed onto the sides of the boat to steady themselves.
"AHHH, HOLY SHIT!"
Even Yun Linhe couldn’t stop himself from cursing, his voice filled with exhilaration.
’This is so damn exciting!’
The other two men also went from initial panic to having their eyes gleam with excitement.
This was especially true for Yun Chendong.
What young man, unless he was a total coward, wouldn’t love this kind of thrill?
The killer whales pushing the boat were having a great time, too.
*Fun, fun!~*
Seeing this, the other killer whales started competing for a turn to push, especially since the humans’ screams made it seem even more fun.
Yun Jiao: ...
’I asked you to help, not to turn the boat and its passengers into your new favorite toy.’
By this time of day, many fishing boats were already heading back to shore.
Everyone was leisurely rowing their boats back. Villagers from Bailong Village who knew each other would call out greetings and ask about the day’s catch.
"No luck today. The nets were full of nothing but small fry."
"Sigh, us too. Those iron-hulled boats have it so much better. They can go out farther and use motorized trawling nets. They catch way more fish than we can with these wooden boats."
"You can say that again," came the reply, full of envy.
Just as they were talking, the RUMBLE of an engine approached.
In their Bailong Village, only two families owned iron-hulled boats with diesel engines: the village chief’s and Yun Dafu’s.
And as luck would have it, the approaching iron-hulled boat belonged to the village’s resident rich man, Yun Dafu.
Yun Dafu and his wife slowed their boat, smugly calling out to the people on the surrounding wooden boats.
"Ah, this iron-hulled boat is great in every way, except for how much fuel it guzzles. A single trip out and back costs four or five yuan in fuel alone."
"But you have to admit, an iron-hulled boat is much better than a wooden one. We can go out to fish in more distant waters where the schools are bigger. We even caught a bonito today."
"Look at this fish, so solid! It looks just like a tuna, doesn’t it? A pity it isn’t. But with a boat like this, we could easily catch a real tuna if we ran into one. The main thing is the speed..."
As Yun Dafu and his wife went on and on, showing off, the fishermen in the nearby wooden boats could feel their expressions freezing on their faces.
’This guy is so obnoxious!’
Yun Dafu couldn’t have cared less about their feelings. He savored their looks of envy and jealousy.
Yun Dafu continued, "If you ask me, you all should hurry up and buy an iron-hulled boat. Start the diesel engine and she just goes. All you have to do is steer. It’s not tiring at all."
He was just about to gun the engine to show off when a scream pierced the air.
"AHHH!!!"
The screams grew louder, coming from a distance, and everyone turned to look.
"Left, left, go left! There’s a boat on the right, we’re going to crash!"
Yun Linhe yelled.
Yun Jiao directed the killer whales, which pushed the boat slightly to the left.
"WHOA, SLOW DOWN, SLOW DOWN, AHHH!!!"
"Hey, uncles..."
Seeing familiar faces, Yun Linhai and his companions greeted them out of habit.
But their voices were immediately stretched thin by the wind.
With a WHOOSH, Yun Linhai’s boat shot past the other vessels.
"Slow down! We’re almost at the shore! We won’t be able to stop!"
The wind carried their frantic shouts back to the ears of the other fishermen.
At that moment, everyone, whether on a wooden boat or the iron-hulled one, was completely dumbfounded.
"What... what the hell was that just now?" someone asked, their voice trembling.
"If... if I’m not mistaken, that was Yun Linhai and Yun Linhe’s boat, right?"
"What was that thing behind them?"
"Is that even a wooden boat? How is it faster than an iron-hulled one?"
Aboard his iron-hulled boat, Yun Dafu’s face had turned green with humiliation.
*Fuck!*
