The Natives of This World Are Fierce
Chapter 304 - 300: Brutality and The Brand
Chapter 304: Chapter 300: Brutality and The Brand
The Noeman family’s car had already sped quite a distance away, but Carl, who was constantly watching the rearview mirror, saw the tables turn yet again. He frantically slapped the dashboard.
"Quick, quick, stop the car!!"
He didn’t need to be told; Frank had already slammed on the brakes.
All four family members, without exception, were glued to the terrifying battlefield behind them, even though they knew it was incredibly dangerous.
"ROOOAR... WHIIINE..."
A resounding roar echoed. In the distance, the gigantic Demon toppled onto its side.
"Is that a dragon?"
Mani, her anxiety finally boiling over, asked the question that was on her mind.
"I don’t know!! But it’s definitely not a good thing!"
"Will Frank’s friend win?"
"I hope so!!"
As Mani and Carl talked, Old Noeman’s heart began to beat faster and faster.
What Carl had just said still echoed in his ears. ’Besides my late wife and my children, who else have I longed for day and night?’
But no one in the car uttered the word "Dawn." Although Carl and Frank had their suspicions, nothing was certain.
Over a decade of fruitless searching had left Old Noeman racked with anxiety over gains and losses.
’Peter and Niso are unbelievably powerful, like Supermen. But maybe they’re Aliens, or robots... or maybe they aren’t human at all...’
...
As the saying goes, "Kick a man while he’s down." The members of the Silent Knight Order had no habit of striking a pose, spouting trash talk, and patiently waiting for their opponents to recover.
Niso’s heavy punch sent him rebounding back, an unavoidable consequence of the force. But Peter had already recovered.
As the Demon’s massive body toppled, Peter, already gripping a Copper Sword with both hands, stabbed at its head, which was still reeling from the force of the punch.
The Copper Sword was taken from the statue of the ancient warrior, which had once again made its contribution.
On the Demon’s massive, ten-meter-plus frame, its head was the most obvious fatal weakness.
After taking Niso’s punch, which was saturated with Magic Power, its head had suffered a grievous blow. Even though its physical toughness far surpassed the two reserves, it felt dizzy and disoriented.
A large section of its head had caved in. Shattered spikes and feathers flaked off, and gouts of black blood gushed out continuously.
"Damn it, you’re still not dead?! Let’s see you survive this!"
The Copper Sword whistled through the air as it closed in.
In that life-or-death moment, an intense sense of crisis washed over the Demon. The tiny speck that had previously knocked it from the sky now filled its vision.
Time seemed to slow to a crawl.
Peter raised the Copper Sword high, his teeth gritted in a snarl. Having landed, Niso was already gathering his power for another strike.
Near the Demon’s massive head, the air seemed to blur for an instant.
"SCREEEEEEEEECH—"
An ear-splitting, terrifying screech erupted. Peter and Niso, who were right beside the Demon, felt as if their heads had been smashed by a sledgehammer, their eardrums pierced by steel awls.
"Ah..." "Ah..."
At the brink of death, it had unleashed a fatal sonic wave with all its might.
The pain was so intense they couldn’t think. At such close range and completely unprepared, Niso and Peter took the full, devastating force of the attack.
Screaming in agony, they both collapsed to the ground, clutching their heads. Relying solely on the warrior’s instincts forged through arduous training, they used their tenacious willpower to roll away from the Demon.
The powerful screech was no ordinary sound wave; it seemed to have compressed its full might into the small area directly in front of it.
Even so, people near the park found the sound unbearably piercing, as if tiny needles were stabbing their eardrums.
Several hundred meters away, the members of the Noeman family felt their heads spin. They immediately clapped their hands over their ears in pain, their minds a murky daze.
When they came to, they could feel blood trickling from their ears.
The Noeman family had no time to check on their own conditions; their eyes immediately snapped back to the battlefield.
Peter and Niso were already back on their feet.
Their ears were a bloody pulp, their minds a chaotic fog. Blood trickled from their mouths, their noses, and the corners of their eyes. They couldn’t hear a thing...
Even their consciousness was hazy.
And yet, they stood. The white vapor steaming from their bodies only grew more intense.
This gave the Demon a terrifying sense of dread.
"ROAR—"
That sonic blast had clearly taken a toll. The Demon’s roar was laced with exhaustion and fear, but its opponents could no longer hear it.
Ignoring its wounds, it struggled to beat its wings, kicking up fierce gusts of wind.
’These two little things are the real dangerous monsters in this world!!’
’I have to get away from them!!’
With a mighty effort, it finally rose into the air, one wing gushing blood from a wound, the other having had its bony tip shattered by Peter’s earlier strike.
But it didn’t dare stop flapping for even a second, climbing higher and higher.
"ROAR—"
The roar was nothing but a bluff. When it glanced down at the ground, its soul nearly fled its body in terror.
The two terrifying little things were looking up at it. Their vacant eyes held no light, yet their gaze was like that of the Death God.
All the long quills on its body bristled, aiming down to cover a wide area below, and a faint light began to glow at their bases.
"ROOOOAR—"
WHOOSH WHOOSH WHOOSH WHOOSH WHOOSH...
Countless huge and sharp quills, trailing feathers, shot downwards. In an instant, a terrifying rain of spikes descended from the sky.
It didn’t dare look at the result. The Demon grew even weaker after launching the steel quills, and this last-ditch survival tactic could only be used again after a long time, once the quills had regrown.
THWACK. THWACK. THWACK. THWACK...
Peter and Niso, standing only through sheer willpower as their consciousness faded, could not possibly dodge such a dense barrage.
Relying purely on instinct, they managed small shifts to avoid the quills aimed at their vital points, but in less than half a second, they were turned into human pincushions.
BANG. BANG. BANG. BOOM. BOOM...
The rain of quills blanketed the area, madly piercing everything. The barrage grew sparser farther from the battlefield’s epicenter, but it still perforated the surrounding trees and the buildings near the park.
Screams and even the unlucky cries of the dying could be heard from inside the homes.
Even the concrete road next to the Noeman family’s car was studded with several long spikes.
Most of their length was buried deep underground, their true size hidden. But of the parts left exposed, even the smallest was as thick as a man’s arm.
"Oh, no!!"
Mani cried out, her hand flying to her mouth. The three men with her stood frozen in shock.
The terrifying Demon had flown away. It didn’t, and wouldn’t dare, land in Munich; in fact, it seemed to be trying its best to avoid human settlements altogether.
And in the center of the battlefield, two figures were lost in a forest of spikes.
The entire battle, from start to finish, had perhaps lasted only a few minutes. Yet, in those few minutes, life and death had been decided in multiple instants. The sheer brutality was unimaginable to any ordinary person.
Despite the constant ringing in his ears, he could hear Mani’s shout, which meant he hadn’t gone deaf.
Old Noeman shouted frantically.
"What are you standing there for?! Go help them! Maybe they’re not dead yet!!!"
The old man, who was in his fifties or sixties but looked closer to seventy, took off with the speed of a sprinter. A moment later, Carl and Frank snapped out of their daze and sprinted after him, with Mani close on their heels.
A single thought was on all their minds.
’I am a Noeman. If they’re from the Dawn Association, then we were once...’
In this day and age, it wasn’t just Old Noeman—long dismissed as a madman and a coward—who couldn’t suppress such a thought. Even Carl was thinking it.
Spikes were everywhere. Their hearts pounded in their chests, but they didn’t slow their pace.
At last, they saw the two fighters. It was the first time they had seen the two powerful Iron-blooded Warriors up close.
They were motionless, bleeding from their eyes, ears, noses, and mouths.
Peter had three steel spikes in each leg. His abdomen and left shoulder were pierced through. Two more spikes had grazed his neck. His right arm had been completely torn off by one of the projectiles, landing three meters away from its owner.
Niso was in slightly better shape, but only because his limbs were still attached. His body was likewise riddled with spikes.
It was impossible to tell if they were dead or alive.
"Take... take us... with you... In my pocket... Flower of Life..."
Niso, incredibly, was still conscious. After recognizing the newcomers, he repeated the same phrase over and over.
"You’ll die like this!!"
Mani’s voice trembled. She then realized he had passed out and looked helplessly at her father and brothers. All three were just as lost.
They were so stunned by the horrific scene that for a moment, they even forgot to call for an ambulance.
"Father!! Brothers!!!"
Mani’s cry rang out again, and everyone’s eyes followed her pointing finger.
She was pointing at Peter’s severed arm.
The palm of the upturned right hand was calloused but fair.
But now.
A deep, scorched brand was slowly materializing on it, as if being drawn onto the skin.
"The Day of Dawn!!!"
Old Noeman’s eyes were bloodshot, and he could barely hold back his tears.
"They’re from Dawn! They’re from Dawn! The real Dawn!!! Quick!! Get them in the car! Get them in the car!!! We can’t leave them here!!!"
He roared at his children and was the first to rush to Peter’s side, trying to pull him free from the spikes.
A moment later, several pairs of young arms joined in to help.
As for medical treatment, they would find a doctor and bring them to their house—even if it meant kidnapping one. It was a long shot, but they had to try.
