The Most Arbitrary Wizard
Chapter 466: "There Is 1 Person Who Can Help You
“You two are finally back.”
Howard joked, “Any longer and I would’ve had to report you two missing.”
Sean laughed too. “Were you waiting for me?”
“If you needed something, why didn’t you call?”
“It’s fine. Look… I have to supervise their work anyway.” Howard jutted his chin toward the Witch Wood Forest, signaling for Sean to look over.
The Witch Wood Forest was right next to the Guest Castle. Lights were still on over there, and many busy figures could be vaguely seen.
But there was no sound.
To avoid disturbing the guests resting in the Guest Castle, the entire Witch Wood Forest was enveloped in a Sound Insulation Magic Array.
The ability to erect such a large Array was proof of the Grev Family’s considerable power.
“Doesn’t this count as making your employees work overtime?” Sean teased.
‘Still working this late at night… It seems the important guest who arrived earlier today gave the Grev Family a huge order.’
“Of course it does. They’ll get double pay this month,” Howard said.
Sean said, “To be honest, this is the first time I’ve ever seen a capitalist with a conscience.”
Howard laughed. “Money, well, as long as you have enough, that’s all that matters.”
“Come on, let’s go back to the room and talk.”
This wasn’t the place to stand around and chat.
“Alright. As it happens, I have something I need to talk to you about too,” Sean said.
“You first, then?” Howard asked.
Sean said directly, “I need your help with something.”
“Go on,” Howard said.
“Help me find someone,” Sean said. “His name is Fan Ke’er. He arrived at the Golden Coast two days ago in the afternoon via a cargo ship.”
“A cargo ship?” Howard asked, puzzled. “What does he do?”
‘Taking a cargo ship instead of a cruise liner… Don’t tell me he’s a stowaway?’
Sean didn’t hide it and frankly told Howard Fan Ke’er’s identity. “He’s the Captain of the Forbidden Guard of the Bright King’s Court.”
Howard blinked.
“What?”
“Captain of the Forbidden Guard??”
His eyes widened. Then, suddenly feeling his voice was too loud, he quickly lowered it and asked Sean, “Why are you investigating him?”
‘As the Empire’s largest instrument of force, the Bright King’s Court was not to be trifled with. Moreover, Fan Ke’er held an official title; he wasn’t just some nobody. Even though Captain of the Forbidden Guard was at the bottom of the Bright King’s Court’s hierarchy, it was still a Steward position. He was on the books, so to speak. If any one of them went missing, the Bright King’s Court would realize it immediately.’
“Don’t tell me you want to go after him,” Howard said.
“Not necessarily,” Sean said. “But we’re definitely not friends.”
This was a clear way of telling Howard that he had a grudge against Fan Ke’er. Whether to help or not was Howard’s choice to make.
But in reality, Howard didn’t have much of a choice.
‘A Captain of the Forbidden Guard from the Bright King’s Court would be a Grand Mage at the very least, while he himself was only Tier Six. There was no way he could go and fight Fan Ke’er alongside Sean, right? He’d only get in Sean’s way.’
‘And since he wasn’t going, the matter had nothing to do with him or the Grev Family.’
‘What Sean meant by “investigating” was probably just tracking Fan Ke’er’s movements. Even if the Bright King’s Court came looking for answers afterward, asking why he investigated Fan Ke’er, he had a million excuses to get by. Besides, finding people wasn’t the Grev Family’s specialty. Unlike other families, they didn’t have their own intelligence network. They wouldn’t search for someone themselves; they just happened to have a few friends in that line of work.’
So, Howard wasn’t worried about himself. He was worried about Sean.
“I can help you with this,” Howard said, offering a reminder. “But you need to think through the consequences. If anything goes wrong, if you don’t cover your tracks, and the Bright King’s Court investigates, no one will be able to protect you.”
‘As he spoke, Howard felt more and more that it was necessary for Sean to make an appearance before Daeli Duke.’
‘If he could build a connection, the Blazing Angel Family might be able to save Sean’s life if things went south.’
‘Just a “might.”‘
‘The chances were slim.’
‘The chance of Daeli Duke taking a liking to him after just one meeting was also slim.’
‘Although Sean was so handsome that even he felt inferior, people at that level were unlikely to be as superficial as them.’
‘When you put two low-probability events together, the chances became even smaller.’
‘But no matter how small the chance, they had to try, right?’
‘What if?’
At this thought, Howard’s tone became serious. “Mr. Sean, listen to me. There’s someone who might be able to help you.”
“For tomorrow’s banquet, you absolutely have to be there on time. Don’t be late.”
