The Most Arbitrary Wizard
Chapter 457: "Mr. Blake Also Likes Fishing
Chapter 457: Chapter 212: “Mr. Blake Also Likes Fishing
“It is quite a coincidence.”
Elise said, “So much so that for a moment, I saw a shadow of Mr. Blake in you.”
Sean feigned shock. “Whoa, hold on. You can’t just say things like that. I’m just a Tier Three Little Wizard. How could I possibly compare to Mr. Blake? If anyone else heard you, they’d say we were being disrespectful to a great man.”
Elise fell silent for a moment before cutting straight to the chase. Her red lips parted. “Stop pretending, Mr. Sean.”
Sean: “…”
“Do you dare turn around, look me in the eye, and say that again?” Elise challenged. “Tell me you don’t know Mr. Blake enjoys fishing. Tell me you’re just you, just a Tier Three Little Wizard, and that you are not Mr. Blake.”
Sean grit his teeth slightly.
‘Fine, I’ll say it!’
‘I don’t care about anything else. I just have to bluff my way through tonight!’
Steeling himself, Sean turned his head and looked directly into Elise’s eyes, his expression serious as he met her gaze.
But the moment he opened his mouth, before a single sound could escape, Elise suddenly closed her eyes, leaned in, and pressed her lips to his.
Sean: “!!!”
“Mmph…!”
‘Wait a minute… all that talking, all that beating around the bush… was this what she was after the whole time?’
With the matter of his identity weighing on his mind, the kiss didn’t last long. Elise could sense it, too. Sean was distracted, his body not nearly as “honest” as before. His hands remained perfectly still, touching nothing.
Elise soon broke the kiss.
A glistening thread stretched between their lips.
Sean wiped his mouth, feigning anger. “Elise, what was that all about!”
Elise hadn’t fallen for his act before, and she wasn’t about to fall for it now. She gazed at Sean, her eyes curving into a smile, a liquid shimmer dancing within them. Her voice was soft and gentle. “My meaning is quite simple, Mr. Sean.”
“I don’t care who you were in the past.”
“I’ve fallen for the man you are in this life.”
“To me, you’ll always be the writer full of secrets and surprises—the man who acts so proud, but whose body is so very honest.”
Sean: “…”
‘It’s over.’
‘She confessed to me… Bah!’
‘She figured it out.’
In truth, Elise had suspected Sean was Carl Black for a long time.
Her suspicions began the second time Sean relayed a message from Mr. Blake.
She hadn’t thought much of it the first time.
After all, Sean’s story—that Mr. Blake had taken an interest in him because of his writing—was logically plausible.
But the second time was a different story.
The time between the two messages was simply too long.
For the first message, one could argue that Mr. Blake had just “woken up” and was still unfamiliar with the world. He hadn’t had time to observe anyone and didn’t know who to trust, so he chose the seemingly loyal Sean.
But by the second message, so much time had passed. With Mr. Blake’s capabilities, he should have long since grasped the entirety of the Farm World. Moreover, a Reshaper lives many lives; only the body changes, never the soul. In other words, Mr. Blake should have recognized Elvire as his sister-in-law long ago.
With that connection, wasn’t Elvire a far more suitable and trustworthy candidate for his Spokesperson than Sean?
And yet, Mr. Blake had done no such thing.
Furthermore, Sean and Mr. Blake had never appeared at the same time.
Even if it had only been two occasions.
Once, during the Dawn Council meeting.
And once, when he appeared at night in Blake City.
But for someone who doesn’t believe in coincidence, twice was more than enough.
Then there was the time Sean claimed his memories hadn’t returned, and she and Elvire had brought in Sopea and Koni to help build him a dream.
Everyone knew what kind of personality Sopea had.
The old man was known for his stubborn pride; he’d even give the Chairman of his own Long Night Union the cold shoulder.
Yet this stern-faced, pedantic old codger had undergone a complete transformation that afternoon. From that day forward, his usual arrogance vanished whenever he was around Sean. While Sopea remained as aloof and dismissive as ever toward others, calling him utterly obedient to Sean would not be an exaggeration.
No matter the topic, if Sean so much as nodded, Sopea would be right there agreeing, “Yes, yes, exactly.”
And then there was the plane crash and being ambushed by the Florist Family at World’s End… At every moment of danger, Sopea was always the first to shield Sean, moving even faster than Elvire. If he were protecting Koni, that would be one thing—after all, Sopea treated Koni like his own daughter. But Sean?
What was Sean’s relationship to Sopea that would warrant being his top priority?
There were many, many more such details.
Elise didn’t know if Elvire had noticed, but she certainly had. And the more she dwelled on the details, the more “cracks” in his story appeared.
Tonight was Elise’s final test. Sean’s reaction told her she was right.
This man was Carl Black.
Because she had suspected it for so long, the final confirmation of Sean’s identity didn’t surprise Elise much. She wasn’t some little girl like Eleanor, who would feel he was out of her league just because he was Carl Black.
You have to fight for your own happiness.
Admittedly, neither her past self nor her current self was worthy of Carl Black. But the future?
The future is called the future for a reason—it hasn’t happened yet. Until the very end, who can say what anyone might achieve?
This was one of the reasons Elise had been so eager to achieve a Breakthrough recently.
She was afraid of holding Elvire back.
And even more afraid of holding Mr. Carl Black back.
