The Most Arbitrary Wizard
Chapter 350 - 168: "It’s Sean Again
Now that Sean was his direct superior, the decision to hold the speech at this location had taken on another layer of meaning.
The unspoken message was clear: ’A tribute to my dear leader and bestselling fantasy author, Mr. Sean!’
Of course, Pulente wouldn’t say this during his speech. He simply placed one of Sean’s books where the cameras could see it. It was a tacit understanding between the two of them, and Pulente trusted Sean would get the message.
And at the event, the book naturally caught the reporters’ eyes.
After the speech, in response to reporters’ questions, Pulente stated frankly that he had been a fan of Mr. Sean for a long time. He said that Mr. Sean’s writing had gotten him through many sleepless nights spent buried in official duties.
"I do not believe Mr. Sean is one of the so-called Heretics.
"A Heretic could not write with such Power and depth."
"Although I’m not clear on what happened, I am certain there must have been a misunderstanding."
"I specifically chose this location for my second speech for this very reason. When the election is over, I will go to the police station myself to inquire about the matter."
"A wanted criminal requires evidence. If there is evidence, I will make it public. This happened on the soil of our Siracle State, and all citizens of Siracle State have the right to know."
"If there is no evidence, then we will clear Mr. Sean’s name, rescind the arrest warrant, and deal with all involved personnel according to regulations. We will never wrong a good person, nor will we let a single bad person go free!"
During the interview, Pulente—attending despite his injuries—not only won everyone over with his passionate speech and tangible policy proposals, but he also managed to clear Sean’s name in the process.
Even Sean himself hadn’t expected this.
’That old fox is really clever,’ he thought.
On the one hand, he had done Sean a huge favor.
On the other, he’d already secured his first major political achievement for his next term as Governor.
Two birds with one stone.
"Olivia really has good judgment," Sean couldn’t help but sigh in admiration.
Thinking about how much Her Highness the Saintess loved him, her judgment seemed even better. ’Definitely praise-worthy!’
Although their acquaintance with Pulente had begun with an assassination attempt, the outcome was, one might say, a happy ending for all involved. Sean admired Pulente’s political savvy, and he figured the Governor must be quite satisfied with his new leader as well.
’He’d have to be satisfied whether he liked it or not.’
But while they were happy, someone else was not.
Someone had been too furious to sleep for two nights in a row.
SMASH!
「Krim State. Mozgo Castle. Inside the Royal Opera House.」
Carlos slammed his wine glass onto the floor. Shards of glass and crimson liquid splattered everywhere as he roared, "A bunch of useless trash!"
"You can’t even kill one person! What’s the point of keeping you around!"
A few of his subordinates didn’t dare to breathe, silently bowing their heads to take the abuse, only hoping the next glass wouldn’t be smashed on their heads.
From the perspective of a servant, they were undoubtedly being sensible.
When their Master was enraged, you couldn’t talk back. Anything you said would be wrong; the more you spoke, the more you’d be in the wrong.
But they didn’t know that when a person is in a state of extreme rage, even their silence is a mistake.
"Say something!"
"Why are you all bowing your heads?"
"Are the floor tiles that interesting? Huh?!"
His men: "..."
Carlos roared, "How many times have I said it? Pulente knows Magic! You have to strike when he’s not paying attention! And what happened?"
"You motherfuckers threw a bomb right in his face! Do you think Pulente is blind?!"
"Now look what you’ve done! Not only is Pulente not dead, he’s become the ’Master’s’ chosen one! How are my people supposed to compete with him now?!"
"Mr. Carlos, please calm down," one of the subordinates said, a hint of grievance in his voice. "We did strike when he was distracted, but we didn’t expect another Wizard to be there to block the bomb for him. That person’s Tier was not low—at least a Tier Five. They were probably with the assassin who fired the shot later."
"With them?"
"Yes. It was Sean and his group."
Carlos laughed in fury. "Good, very good. Sean again."
’And the Dawn Council again.’
Last time, they took his materials and didn’t pay. This time, they came to steal his target.
If they had actually killed Pulente with that shot, he could have let it slide. He didn’t care who killed him, as long as Pulente ended up dead. But no, the shot didn’t kill Pulente. Not only did it not kill him, it turned him into some kind of chosen one! If you told him this wasn’t all planned out, who the hell would believe you?
Carlos’s fists clenched tightly.
"Go. Keep a close eye on that group."
"Especially Sean."
"Aren’t they heading to the Gate of Hell?"
"The moment you see them leave Alola Town, report back to me immediately."
"He’s ruined my plans time and again. I’m going to give him a huge surprise!"
"Yes, sir!"
