Chapter 3477: Greater Insight
“Very well then,” Lord Vakratunda remarked. “You may proceed there right away. I will have one of my trusted officials guide you to our hadron collider and to our wormhole research centers situated away from the city. Get there right away so that you can begin whatever it is that you seek to do. I just hope that whatever your plan is, it will actually work in such a short schedule.”
“I will succeed,” Rui promised even when he himself wasn’t sure about the outcome of his little idea.
Soon enough, the first meeting between Lord Vakratunda and Rui ended as they came to a basic understanding.
A very basic understanding.
The plan was crude at the moment. But unfortunately, they didn’t have too much time to chalk out an extremely rigorous plan. But essentially, Rui would teleport to the Dragon Emperor, then teleport outside the continent of Kiriket while the Harmonist Faction held back the War Coalition from interfering.
The fact that Lord Vakratunda was willing to go with this plan was very telling to Rui. It proved that he had great trust in Rui in not only his ability to use negative energy successfully against the Dragon Emperor, but also that he could be trusted to take down the Dragon Emperor.
There was also the fact that he didn’t seem to distrust Rui when it came to the Authority of Alpha, something that Rui found rather unfathomable. The reasoning with which he had come to trust Rui, based on whether or not Rui had asked a particular question was also something that Rui found confounding. This was the leader of a state, a leader of a people who bore the responsibility of their fate and destiny.
Was it ok for such a man to simply allow Rui to hold the power to control them to his will without any repurcussion? It was true that Rui did not intend to use the Authority of Alpha to control therianthropes against their will. It was one of the lines that Rui did not wish to cross unless he had absolutely no choice whatsoever.
However, surely Lord Vakratunda had no way of knowing that. Surely this man had every reason to consider Rui an existential threat. In fact, if Rui were in his place, he would have done everything in his power to ensure that the Dragon Emperor was defeated, but not killed so that if Rui tried to use his Authority of Alpha to control the therianthrope people, then they would be able to resist with the power of the Dragon Emperor.
However, Lord Vakratunda appeared to have been entirely unconcerned about what Rui’s intentions could be, whether he held malice towards the therianthrope people or not, or what he could possibly do if he felt the need.
Rui frowned, as he paused to think about that. How plausible was it that this man truly would wave aside such matters and hasten an agreement that ended up with Rui having immense power over the therianthropes of Kiriket?
It was unfathomable unless he was insane.
’He must have some strong reason to believe that I’m being truthful…’ Rui realized. ’He must have some kind of insights into the people he’s talking. Maybe some kind of mind sense or something more than just instinct. It must be considerably powerful if he’s truly willing to put the freedom of his species at risk over it.’
Rui was happy and a little displeased at being read so easily. Usually, he was the one who did the reading, and he did indeed do it in this case, which helped him develop trust with the leader of the Gajanan Clan rather easily.
Perhaps it was because the two of them were able to understand each other extremely well that they were able to skip through a lot of fluff in a conversation to feel each other out, and immediately reach a resolution, a timeline, and, of course, a common objective. If only all military alliances could be so quick and convenient in their path to a resolution. In this case, the resolution was one that he would need to work hard to live up to.
The resolution to make use of the negative-energy exotic matter was one that he hadn’t conceived of prior. He hadn’t expected that he would run into a space anchor impediment this early. The dark elves hadn’t thought to mention it because it had become a kind of common sense among them that wormholes didn’t work against influential people with protection against space-time manipulation.
Human civilization didn’t think to ask because Rui couldn’t use even use Worm Step very well at the time, thus there was categorically no option to use wormhole technology against the Dragon Emperor.
It had ended up with a flaw that he would now need to resolve with exotic matter and primordial seed. The journey to the Gajanan Hadron Collider didn’t take too long given the urgency of the matter. They didn’t have much time and Rui would need to figure out not only how this substance worked, but also how to utilize in combat. This was normally not something that was done within five days, but alas, they had on chance. Rui could not think of any other way to ensure that he could have had a one-on-one fight with the Dragon Emperor.
’Maybe I should have just teamed up with Amare against the Dragon Emperor and the two of us would have just decisively succeeded in killing him,’ he couldn’t help but have this thought as the severity of the situation grew, but at the time he was more determined for it to be a one on one. He still was, of course. However, there was also the fact that Amare was dying due to radiation poisoning.
But the stakes felt higher. Perhaps he should have put his battle lust aside for the moment and then simply swallowed his pride and killed the Dragon Emperor in a two-on-one. After all, the Dragon Emperor had no qualms crushing Rui with an army if he could, it was why he was even having such trouble in the first place.
They traveled on an elephant outside of the nation as they headed to the territories of Gajanan Clan, arriving at a massive Hadron Collider far away from the nation.
