The Lord Demon King is Unfathomable!
Chapter 2037 - 547: The Professor with a Complex Composition_3
Clark was silent for a while, then stuffed the remaining half bottle of wine into Helager's hand.
Helager didn't bother with a cup, grabbing the bottle and tilting his head back to gulp it down.
Not long after, he was completely drunk, sprawled on the ground and began his drunken antics, mumbling nonsense, sometimes crying, sometimes laughing, intermittently kneeling and begging to the shadows on the wall.
Everyone exchanged glances, all feeling a chill down their spines.
Clark was the same, silently watching Helager begin to roll around on the floor.
A young soldier walked up to Clark, glancing at the guy rolling around on the ground and then looking toward his captain.
"Captain, this..."
"Take him outside to get some fresh air and sober up," an old soldier suggested.
"Forget it, let him stay drunk, being awake is suffering," another sighed.
They couldn't imagine what distant Roland City was like, but the pain before them made their mood complicated, because that guy was a servant of the Holy Light just like them.
His pain wasn't far away, it was right under their noses.
Just at that moment, a crisp sound suddenly came from the woods outside the sentry post.
"Snap."
It was the sound of a tree trunk being pushed down, though it came from far away it was dreadfully sharp in the silent night.
Except for the still drunk Helager on the ground, everyone in the sentry post immediately became alert, an old soldier furrowing his brow.
"What sound was that?"
"Could it be a bear?"
"Doesn't sound like it..."
"I'll go take a look."
Clark picked up the rifle leaning against the table, beckoning to two bold old soldiers, and the three carefully pushed open the door, stepping into the night.
The clearing outside the sentry post was silent, as was the nearby forest; the earlier disturbance seemed like a hallucination, with only the rustling of leaves in the evening breeze.
Clark called to the wooden watchtower above.
"Tom! Anything up there?"
No response.
Clark's heart sank, a bad feeling surfacing.
He tightened his grip on the rifle, signaling the two old soldiers to be on guard below, while he cautiously climbed the ladder up to the watchtower.
As he reached the platform, he saw that the night watch Tom was slumped over the railing, motionless, soft snoring coming from his mouth.
"This brat, daring to sleep during his watch?"
Clark sighed in relief, also somewhat annoyed. He stepped forward, shaking Tom's shoulder vigorously.
Tom's body swayed limply with his shaking, his face tilting to one side, sleeping soundly as if the sky could fall and he wouldn't wake.
Clark was just about to slap him to wake him when suddenly a soft whisper reached his ear.
"Shh—"
It was a girl's voice, chilly with a lazy menace.
"He's sleeping so soundly, don't wake him up."
Clark's hairs stood on end, just as he was about to turn his gun and aim, all his joints felt sluggish as if rusted.
This is... Magic?!
Before he could discern what it was, a tidal wave of irresistible drowsiness overcame him.
His vision started to blur, the world began to twist.
In the last second before his consciousness plunged into darkness, he glimpsed from the corner of his eye a petite figure sitting on the watchtower railing.
She had a porcelain doll-like profile, yawning idly. And under the silver moonlight, those slightly curved little horns, gleamed with a demonic luster.
Little Demon...?
How could there be... a Little Demon here?
"Thump—"
With fragmented memories and bewilderment, Clark fell heavily beside his sleeping comrades, plunging into an infinite dream realm.
At the same time, the two below the tower went down, as did the sentries in the post.
Against the ambush of a Transcendent, ordinary Mortals had no ability to fight back.
"Ha—"
Sitting on the watchtower railing, Yousi yawned long, idly shifting her crossed legs, her little feet swinging beside the railing.
It was said to be a mission personally assigned by Lord Demon King, and before setting out she was all fired up at one hundred and twenty percent, yet upon reaching her destination, it turned out she was merely babysitting a bunch of humans.
Demons babysitting humans...
Though it sounded fresh, there was no mischievous fun at all, she'd rather be jumping up and down in a vat full of grapes.
Just thinking about the humans in all of Thunder City drinking footbath water from the Land of Nightmare got her excited enough to down two large bowls of mushrooms.
Thinking about it, Yousi's eyes rolled, her gaze unconsciously landing on the human soldier's water bottle at his waist; her stomach churning with mischief.
Why not—
Add some flavoring for them.
With her mouth curling to her ears, just as Yousi was about to move, a voice from afar saved those two unfortunate souls.
If the water was swapped for iced tea, it would be a lifelong psychological shadow.
"Stop playing, Yousi! Queen Cathy is still fighting up front, let's hurry and help!" Fluttering her wings to hover before her, Mi Xi urgently called.
Yousi pouted, grudgingly muttering.
"I know, geez... just a few small fries, Queen Cathy can crush them all with one finger, do we even need to intervene?"
Mi Xi said with exasperation.
"Even so, it's better to be cautious, Yousi always gets into trouble because of carelessness... Remember that time with the Earth Dragon Clan?"
