The Hidden Luna of Blackmoor Valley
Chapter 415 The run 1
Chapter 415: Chapter 415 The run 1
Talia’s POV
I ran toward Kaelen’s position, and Jax, Silas, and Cain ran with me.
My legs moved before my mind caught up, and I did not think or plan. I just ran.
I could not lose him. Not now. Not after everything we had fought for.
The bond pulled at me, and it was a rope tied around my heart, and it was dragging me forward.
The battlefield was chaos around me. Wolves were locked in combat, their teeth and claws tearing through flesh. Blood sprayed through the air in hot, sticky arcs, and the dead fell to the earth.
The sounds of war were distant and muffled, like thunder heard from underwater.
The screams, the clashes, the howls of pain, all of it faded into a dull roar that I could not focus on, because every part of me was reaching for him.
But I did not see any of it, because I only felt Kaelen through the bond.
He was weak, and he was fading, and his presence in the bond was thin. It was like a candle flickering in the wind, and I could feel it dimming with every step I took.
"Hold on," I whispered. "Just hold on."
I pushed myself harder, because I had to reach him.
My legs burned with every step, and my lungs ached with every breath. Each inhale was a knife in my chest, and each exhale was a rasp. But I did not stop.
Cain was wounded from Serena’s bite, but he kept pace with me. Blood was still pouring from his shoulder, and his face was pale, but he did not slow down.
Jax and Silas flanked me, and they cut down any corrupted wolves that got in our way.
"Luna, on your left!" Jax shouted.
I ducked without thinking, and a corrupted wolf sailed over my head. Jax drove his sword through its chest before it could land.
"Thanks," I said, breathless.
"Don’t thank me yet," Jax replied, already turning to face another wave.
But the corrupted wolves kept coming. For every one we cut down, three more took its place. They poured out of the Ashen Lands like a tide, and no matter how many we killed, there were always more.
I could feel my strength fading. My arms were heavy, and my legs were shaking. I could not keep this up. Not like this. Not for much longer.
I looked ahead. Kaelen was still on the ground. Malachai was still standing over him. And the corrupted wolves were still coming.
I had no choice.
I stopped running.
"Sleep," I commanded.
My voice carried across the battlefield. It was not just sound. It was power, and it was a command filled with rage. The corrupted wolves nearest to me stopped moving. Their black eyes closed, and they fell to the ground.
But more came.
"Fall," I commanded.
Another wave of corrupted wolves dropped. Their bodies hit the dead earth, and they did not move.
But more came.
"Die," I commanded.
The third wave fell. They did not get up, and they did not breathe. They were dead.
A corrupted wolf lunged at me from the side, and I did not stop running. I dropped my shoulder and rolled under its outstretched claws. I came up behind it, and I drove my dagger into the base of its skull. The blade sank deep, and the corrupted wolf collapsed. I pulled my dagger free and kept running.
More came from behind me. I heard their footsteps, and I heard their snarls.
"Sleep," I commanded without turning around.
They fell.
More came. I felt them before I saw them.
"Die," I commanded.
They died.
I did not stop. I kept running.
The dead earth crunched beneath my boots, and the air burned in my lungs, and I did not stop.
Something was shifting inside me. It was not just my magic. It was something deeper. It was the fury. It was the rage that had been building since the moment I saw Kaelen on his knees.
It was the rage of a servant who had been beaten and starved. It was the rage of a daughter who had watched her mother be taken. It was the rage of a woman who had been told her whole life that she was worthless, and who had finally learned that it was a lie.
It was the rage that had been building for fifteen years.
I could feel it burning in my chest. I could feel it pushing against my bones. It was making me stronger.
I did not question it. I did not fight it. I let it fuel me.
I could feel Kaelen through the bond, and his pain was sharp and cold. It wrapped around my chest like a fist and squeezed. I gasped, and I stumbled, but I did not fall.
"Kaelen," I whispered through the bond. "Can you hear me?"
There was no response. Just the faint flicker of his presence, weak and fading.
I could feel him slipping away. I could feel him dying.
The fury inside me grew hotter.
I ran faster.
"Hold on," I whispered again. "Hold on, Kaelen. I am coming."
I ran faster, because I could feel him getting weaker, and I could feel him slipping away.
"No," I whispered. "No, no, no. Do not leave me. Not now."
I was almost through the corrupted wolves when a wall of them formed in front of me.
They stood shoulder to shoulder. There were too many to fight. Too many to cut down.
I stopped running.
"Sleep," I commanded.
The front row fell.
"Fall," I commanded.
The second row dropped.
"Die," I commanded.
The third row died.
But there were still more. There were always more.
