Chapter 355: Chapter 355 Choosing A Successor

Talia POV

Aldric smiled, and I saw the tears streaming down his weathered face. "You are the best thing that ever happened to this pack, Talia. You have made us stronger than we ever thought possible."

I felt the tears burning in my eyes. "I learned from you, Grandfather."

Aldric looked at the crowd, and I saw his eyes land on a young wolf near the front. The wolf was tall and steady, and I could see the respect in his eyes.

"I have chosen my successor," Aldric said. "He is a young wolf who has shown wisdom beyond his years. A wolf who will stand in wisdom, alongside the leaders of this pack, into the future."

“You, child,” Aldric pointed to a young wolf that was standing at the front of the crowd.

The young wolf stepped forward, and I saw the surprise on his face.

I watched his eyes widen, and I saw him glance around at the crowd. He was young, and he had not expected this. He had not expected to be chosen. He had not expected to carry the weight of the pack’s future on his shoulders.

"Me?" he asked, and his voice was filled with disbelief.

Aldric nodded. "You, Gillian. I have watched you grow. I have seen your strength and your heart, and I know you will be a great elder."

The young wolf named Gillian bowed his head, and I saw the emotion on his face. "I am honored, Elder Aldric. I will not let you down."

Aldric reached out, and he placed his hand on the young wolf’s shoulder.

I watched him lean in, and I heard him speaking softly to the young wolf. "The pack is not about power," he said. "It is about love, and it is about service. Remember that, and you will never fail."

The young wolf nodded, and I saw the understanding in his eyes. “Yes, Elder Aldric. I will not let you and the pack down.”

Aldric nodded. "I know you will not.” He replied. “You have the heart of a leader."

I watched the pack surround Aldric, and I saw the love on their faces. They pressed forward, each of them wanting to touch him, to thank him, and to say goodbye.

I watched the old wolves and the young wolves alike reaching for him. I watched the children tugging at his robes, and I watched the warriors bowing their heads. He had touched so many lives, and now they were all trying to hold onto him for just one more moment.

"Thank you, Elder Aldric," a wolf said, and her voice was thick with tears. "Thank you for everything you have done for us."

Aldric smiled, and I saw the tears in his eyes. "It has been my honor."

Another wolf stepped forward. "You taught me how to be a wolf, Elder Aldric. You taught me what it means to be part of a pack."

Aldric nodded, and I saw the pride in his old eyes. "And you have made me proud."

I walked to him, and I pulled him into a hug. His body was thin and frail, but his arms were still strong.

"I am proud of you, Grandfather," I whispered.

He held me tight, and I felt his body shaking against mine. "I am proud of you too, Talia. You have made this pack stronger than it has ever been."

I felt the tears burning in my eyes. "I love you, Grandfather."

He pulled back, and I saw the love in his old eyes. "I love you too, Talia."

Kaelen stepped forward, and I saw the respect in his eyes. "Aldric, you have been more than an elder to this pack. You have been a father, a mentor, and a friend. We will carry your legacy forward."

Aldric nodded, and I saw the tears in his eyes. "I know you will, Kaelen. You and Talia will lead this pack into a bright future."

The young wolf stepped forward, and I saw the determination in his eyes. "Elder Aldric, I will do my best to honor your legacy."

Aldric smiled, and I saw the warmth in his eyes. "I know you will, Gillian."

I looked at the pack, at the wolves who had come to say goodbye to their elder. They were crying, but they were also smiling. They were sad to see him go, but they were happy for him.

I looked at Aldric, and I felt the gratitude swelling in my chest. He had given everything to this pack, and now he was finally getting the rest he deserved.

I looked at him, and I saw the peace in his eyes. He was not sad to be leaving, he was happy to have lived. He had done everything he had set out to do, and now he was finally free.

"Thank you for all your sacrifices, Grandfather," I whispered. "For everything."

He smiled, and I saw the love in his old eyes. "You do not have to thank me, Talia. I would do it all again.”
