The Fragrance of My Hot Patients
Chapter 421
Chenyang knew Lin Yongkun was here to help him.
Regardless of whether he could actually help, he would appreciate the man’s good intentions.
But appreciating the gesture didn’t mean he wouldn’t complain.
Because yesterday, while treating him in the hospital room, he had already explained everything clearly to Lin Yongkun and Lin Xiaoyue.
Judging by Lin Yongkun’s behavior, it was clear he’d privately looked into the actual situation after their talk. Therefore, his niece, Lin Xiaoyue, must have heard the real story from him before coming here, even if she couldn’t be bothered to investigate herself and still held a grudge against Chenyang.
Under normal circumstances, even if Lin Xiaoyue didn’t believe Chenyang, she would surely believe her own uncle. So when she came here, even if she still wanted to side with her boyfriend, Lin Jiji, she should have at least acted a little more impartial.
But not only did she fail to do that, she publicly confounded right and wrong, spouting complete fabrications.
If she and Chenyang had no connection, no history, he wouldn’t have bothered to say anything.
But the problem was, Chenyang had saved her uncle, and he had also saved her at the scene of the car accident!
Two great debts of gratitude were laid before her, yet they were no match for a few of Lin Jiji’s sweet words!
Her behavior was both laughable and infuriating to Chenyang.
Lin Yongkun understood what Chenyang was thinking. His old face flushed red, ashamed and embarrassed by his niece’s actions.
But Zhang Hongtu, who didn’t know the inside story, thought Chenyang’s actions were exceptionally rude. A little annoyed, he said, “Doctor Xiaochen, what Old Forest’s niece did might have been improper, but she can’t speak for Old Forest. Besides, he came here to help you. He walks up to you with a smile, and before anything happens, you hit him with a round of sarcasm. That’s not right.”
Chenyang smiled. “You’re trying to say I’m ungrateful, right?”
Zhang Hongtu smiled without replying, but that was clearly what he was thinking. Although Lin Yongkun’s official rank was lower than his, his influence, power, and even his background in Yang City were in no way inferior.
As the vice mayor, even he had to show Lin Yongkun a certain degree of respect. Chenyang was just a minor doctor. Even if he was banking on having saved Lin Yongkun’s life, where did he get the nerve to be so sarcastic towards him?!
Chenyang sneered. “I may not be some saint, but I can face anyone and anything with a clear conscience. I have a clear conscience regarding Mr. Lin’s illness, and I can face what’s happening now openly and calmly. The only reason I spoke to him like that just now is because he and his niece are simply in the wrong on this matter.”
“His niece is at fault, not him.”
“No, I am at fault.”
Lin Yongkun sighed. “Doctor Xiaochen saved me, and he saved my niece. He told us, to our faces, the truth of what happened during the car accident. From a public standpoint, as a leading official in Yang City, I could have investigated this matter from the beginning and cleared his name, but I didn’t! From a personal standpoint, he saved me and Xiaoyue. When I was trying to persuade Xiaoyue, I knew in my heart that she was biased against Doctor Chen. Yet, knowing this, I didn’t stop her. This means I’m inextricably linked to Xiaoyue coming forward to give false testimony. At the same time, it’s as if my niece and I are repaying his kindness with malice.”
Zhang Hongtu raised an eyebrow. “He already told you all this?”
“Yes, I knew about this before any of you, and I know more of the inside story than what you’ve investigated.” Lin Yongkun gave a dry laugh. “As someone in the know, I let my niece come forward to attack and slander an innocent man. Tell me, if that’s not a mistake, what is?”
Zhang Hongtu was at a loss for words, unable to refute it.
Lin Yongkun turned around, his face full of apology. “Doctor Chen, I admit my mistake. And now, I’m here to make amends. I’ve found some inside information and evidence about the incident, but it’s not enough. Judging by your behavior just now, you must have found something too. I think if we combine what we’ve both found, it should be enough to clear your name.”
Chenyang raised an eyebrow. “What did you find?”
“A recording.”
“A recording of what?”
“Before I answer you, can you first answer a question that both Vice Mayor Zhang and I are curious about?”
Chenyang rolled his eyes speechlessly. ‘Can’t you leaders ever kick the habit of leaving people in suspense?’ he thought.
