The First Patriarch: Streaming My Cosmic Harem
Chapter 139:
She kissed him deeper still.
Her fingers tightened in the fabric at his shoulders, her chest pressed flat against his, the warmth of him beneath her radiating upward through every layer of silk and armour between them like sunlight through still water.
She felt his heartbeat against her sternum, steady, present, unambiguously real, and something in her chest that had been pulled taut for as long as she could remember released, quietly and completely, like a bow finally unstrung.
Mm.
His hand at the back of her head moved slowly through her white hair.
The other pressed warm circles into the small of her back, unhurried, as though they had nowhere to be and nothing to become and this specific moment was sufficient on its own.
She pulled back just enough to breathe.
Their foreheads met, and she stayed there for a suspended moment in the lunar crystal light, her eyes closed, her breath mingling with his in the cool night air, the ring’s violet pulse warm against his chest where her hand rested.
Then she opened her eyes.
He was already looking at her.
She kissed him again, softer this time, a series of slow, deliberate presses, each one its own complete thing, each one carrying something she had not yet found a way to say in words and was saying in the only language that felt adequate.
He received each one with the same steady, unguarded attention, his thumb tracing the line of her jaw, the fluffy ear that made her breath catch on an inhale.
Mm. Mm.
She felt, rather than heard, the low sound he made against her lips, something private and unhurried that belonged entirely to this moment and would not be repeated in any other context.
She pulled back.
She looked at him.
He looked at her.
And then Azriel moved.
He planted one hand flat against the marble, braced, and rose, smoothly, fluidly, without breaking the contact between them, one arm wrapping around her waist as he came up, pulling her with him, and then his hands found the full curve of her rear and gripped.
Mm—
The sound that left Rosalind was thoroughly undignified and she did not care even slightly.
Her legs found his waist without a conscious decision, crossing and locking behind his back, her arms wrapping around his shoulders, and suddenly she was off the ground and he was standing in the courtyard holding her against him with his hands warm and firm and entirely without apology against her curves.
She kissed him again.
Deeper, this time, the softness of the previous kisses giving way to something with more heat behind it, her fingers threading into his dark hair, his grip on her tightening with the same gradual, building quality she had learned to recognise as the precursor to something considerably more thorough.
He squeezed.
Ahh.
The sound left her against his lips and she felt him smile, which was infuriating, and she kissed the smile off his face, which helped.
Without breaking the kiss, she extended a thread of white aether, minimal, precise, and felt it find the ironwood case on the marble floor.
A breath of concentrated will and it dissolved from the courtyard, reappearing in her storage ring with a soft, familiar weight.
Her mind back entirely where it wanted to be.
He was already walking.
She had not noticed the movement begin but he was moving with the unhurried confidence of someone who knows where he is going and is in no particular hurry to stop kissing the woman he is carrying there, navigating the courtyard, his lips still on hers, her fingers still in his hair.
The estate was quiet around them.
Unusually quiet.
No footsteps of servants in the corridors. No soft murmur of household staff managing the evening routines.
The kind of deliberate, arranged quiet that does not happen by accident.
Rosalind registered this distantly and understood immediately.
Her mother had cleared the estate.
Of course she had. Vesperia, who had spent a century anticipating the logistics of every situation she entered, had taken one look at the evening’s trajectory and sent the staff away with the brisk efficiency of a woman managing a campaign.
Azriel turned down the inner corridor, the soft glow of mana crystals embedded in the ceiling casting moving light across the white walls as he carried her, her white hair trailing over his arm, the ring’s violet pulse visible at his shoulder where her hand rested against him.
His lips moved from her mouth to her jaw, the curve of her ear, the line of her throat, slow and deliberate, as though he were reacquainting himself with territory he intended to know very thoroughly.
She tipped her head back.
Ahh.
"Az—"
"Mm," he said, against her throat, which was not really a response but communicated everything necessary.
She felt the warmth of his breath against her pulse point, the press of his lips, the slight edge of his teeth, careful, considered, the specific pressure that she had learned was both warning and promise, and her fingers tightened in his hair.
He found her bedroom door.
He drew back from her throat just long enough to look at it.
Then he kicked it.
The white door swung inward with a clean, resonant impact that sent it fully open against the interior wall, and Azriel walked through the threshold without pausing, still carrying her, his mouth finding hers again in the same motion, as though the door had been a minor administrative detail and they were returning to the matter at hand.
Mm.
The bedroom was lit by the soft, diffuse glow of the crystals set into the ceiling, pale silver-white light that caught the white silk of the bed canopy and the white curtains and Rosalind’s white hair as it spread across his arm, rendering everything in the quiet tones of late night and privacy and a space that belonged entirely to them.
He crossed to the bed.
He laid her down.
The white silk received her, cool and smooth against her back, and she looked up at him standing over her in the lunar light, his dark hair and his violet eyes and the particular expression he wore when he had decided something, and her heart did something it had been doing with increasing frequency since she had allowed him close enough to cause it, which was to move significantly faster than was strictly physiologically necessary.
He reached for his collar.
She watched him.
His fingers found the silver clasp at his throat, undoing it with deliberate, unhurried ease.
Rosalind tracked every motion, her golden slit-pupils locked onto him with the rapt, predatory focus of a huntress witnessing an offering.
The heavy leather duster fell away, pooling silently on the floor.
His tunic followed, swept over his head in a single fluid motion.
As the coarse fabric dropped, the pale lunar crystals caught the sculpted lines of his frame, broad shoulders tapering into a lean waist, a dense lattice of cords and sinew etched by brutal dungeon trials, and smooth skin that caught the starlight like polished ivory.
Her breath snagged sharply in her throat.
Rosalind sat up, her spine stiffening as the raw heat of his presence tore through the cool night air, drawing her gaze like an absolute gravity.
Her own fingers found the fastenings of her gown, the small silver hooks at the back of her collar, the ties at her waist, and she moved through them with the same deliberate unhurriedness he had brought to everything tonight, watching his face as she did.
He watched her back.
The gown parted.
She let it go. The lunar light settled over her the way it settled over everything in this room, quiet, silver, entirely without judgment.
Azriel looked at her.
The way he looked at her was something she had stopped trying to be composed about. It was the look that saw all of it, the Duchess and the woman beneath the Duchess and the particular, specific Rosalind that existed at the intersection of both, and found nothing in the inventory that required changing.
He leaned down.
His hands found the bed on either side of her and he descended until his lips found hers again, different now, the warmth of skin against skin and the soft silk beneath her and the lunar light around them giving everything a quality of intimacy that went deeper than anything preceding it.
Mm.
She pulled him closer.
Her arms found his shoulders, her fingers at the back of his neck, and she kissed him back with the full, unhurried thoroughness of a woman who has decided she is done being careful about wanting things.
"Az," she said, against his mouth.
"Here," he said, which was the only answer she needed.
She kissed him again.
