The First Patriarch: Streaming My Cosmic Harem
Chapter 138: I Love You, Rose
"So you were actually watching us through the rift?"
"No. Direct scrying collapses under dungeon spatial distortion," Rosalind replied, tilting her head as the microscopic rune hovered over her palm.
"A locational beacon is only its primary function. It also passively logs ambient atmospheric data, elemental density, kinetic spikes, and volatile pheromone traces, so that if a beast slew you, I could track its exact biological signature to the ends of the continent."
She brought the floating speck closer, her gaze pinning his with wicked precision.
"And within that spatial log, this tiny rune captured an unmistakable trace. A distinct, heavy musky scent mixed with your own... one I became very well-acquainted with during our nights together."
Azriel blinked, a low chuckle escaping him.
"That old hag spent five minutes meticulously scrubbing every lingering pheromone from the clearing before we left. She purged the entire grove down to the bedrock."
"Oh? So you were planning to cover your tracks and keep it a secret?" Rosalind teased, narrowing her eyes in a mock glare as her fingers tightened playfully on his lapel.
"Not at all. I just confessed it to your face, didn’t I?" Azriel countered with a slow, unapologetic smirk, his hand coming up to rest firmly over hers.
"I wasn’t hiding anything."
Rosalind’s glare melted into a fierce, predatory smile, her golden eyes burning with competitive fire.
"She purged the air, yes," Rosalind said, her voice carrying the particular, dangerous smoothness of a woman who has already done the analysis and is simply walking someone else through her conclusions.
"And with her Overlord senses, she knew this rune was recording ambient shifts. She could have erased its memory with a flick of her wrist."
Her white-furred ears twitched, the movement sharp and deliberate.
"She left it intact on purpose." A pause, in which her golden eyes moved to his face with the focused, unblinking attention of someone who has inherited a century of tactical thinking from the exact woman currently under discussion.
"She is telling me, directly and without any plausible deniability, that she has laid a claim on you."
"Ohhhh," Azriel said.
He said it with the tone of a man receiving information that reorganises several things simultaneously.
Internally, the reorganisation was considerably more dramatic.
’And here I was racking my brain over how to explain the whole mother-daughter dynamic without starting a blood feud.’
His jaw tightened with amused, dangerous resolve.
’I really need to teach Ves some manners. Bailing into the bathhouse and leaving me out here alone to explain this mess? She’s definitely going to pay for that.’
Seeing the brief flicker of tension cross his face, Rosalind’s razor sharp expression softened. She stepped closer, reaching up to gently cup his cheek with a tender, manicured palm.
"If you’re worried about how I feel, don’t be," she spoke softly, her golden eyes carrying a quiet, genuine warmth.
"I already warned you back at the manor that she would eventually come for you. In the world, powerful women take what catches their eye. If my own mother has decided to step into the ring and claim a piece of you, there’s little point in me crying over it. All I care about... is that I remain your number one."
Azriel’s lips curved into an effortless, confident smile, his hand coming up to wrap securely over hers against his cheek.
"Obviously," he said without a shred of hesitation. "You’re the only one holding that spot."
Beneath the soft, ambient glow of the courtyard’s floating lunar crystals, Azriel slowly lowered his frame, sinking smoothly down onto one knee before the Duchess.
Rosalind’s breath hitched in her throat, her lips parting as her white furred ears flicked forward in stunned disbelief.
With a fluid, unhurried flick of his wrist, Azriel summoned the polished case from his spatial ring.
His calloused fingers flipped the silver filigree latch, letting the lid swing open with a soft, velvet click.
Resting on a bed of crushed white silk was the Ring of the Moonlit Dawn.
The polished Moon-Vein Silver swirled under the starlight like ripples across a midnight lake, holding within its delicate band the teardrop cut violet dawn gem.
As Rosalind drew closer, the ring’s life-resonance rune flared to life, casting a tender, rhythmic violet glow that pulsed in exact synchronization with the rapid, unshielded beat of her own heart.
Looking up into her wide, trembling golden eyes with steady, resolute devotion, Azriel spoke into the quiet night, letting every word ring absolute.
"I’m sorry for making things complicated, and thank you for understanding me so deeply. In this world, they say it’s a woman’s duty to provide, to conquer, and to stand as the shield. But I’m making this vow to you right now, you are, and will always be, my first woman. I’m not hiding behind anyone’s back. I have the power, and I will be the one standing in front, protecting you through whatever storm comes next."
His gaze locked onto hers, burning with raw, unwavering certainty.
"I love you, Rose."
[LIVE CHAT]
[Sadistic69] (Red): WAIT WAIT WAIT— HE ACTUALLY DROPPED TO ONE KNEE?! IN A MATRIARCHY?! HE JUST FLIPPED THE ENTIRE SOCIAL ORDER WITH A SINGLE VOW! HOLY SHIT!
[Nine_Tailed_Vixen] (Cyan): I am sobbing... ’You will always be my first woman.’ He bought it with his own blood money, looked the Duchess dead in the eyes, and promised to be HER shield!
[Moon_Priestess_99] (Cyan): LOOK AT HER FACE! Rosalind is completely breaking down in real time! Her cheeks are bright red!
[God_Slayer_Klara] (Red): A male proposing to a women with a ring forged from dungeon spoils he hunted himself. This isn’t just romance, this is legendary tier progression.
[Battle_Maiden_Vera] (White): Standing in front to protect a GrandMaster... Any other male saying that would be laughed out of the province. But from Azriel? That’s not an empty boast. That’s a decree.
[Lusty_Sera] (Golden): SHE’S GOING TO POUNCE ON HIM! LOOK AT HER TAIL! PRAY FOR HIS PELVIS AHAHAHA!
The courtyard fell into an almost sacred hush, the whistling mountain winds dying down to a breathless murmur.
High above, the pale lunar crystals drifted in their slow, ancient orbits, casting gossamer veils of silver light across the polished marble flags and the fragrant midnight vines clinging to the balustrade.
Bathed in that celestial glow, Azriel remained on one knee, steady, unyielding, his deep violet eyes laid bare, offering her a future carved entirely by his own hands.
The ring pulsed violet, violet, violet, perfectly timed to the heart it had already decided belonged to her.
Rosalind looked at him.
A rich, feverish crimson flooded her pale skin, spreading from the hollow of her collarbones all the way to the tips of her pointed silver ears.
The careful, imperious composure of the Duchess didn’t just crack, it shattered entirely, dissolved into the cool night air as though it had never existed, leaving behind only the woman beneath the mantle.
Just Rosalind.
Her fingers trembled noticeably as she lifted her left hand between them.
Looking down at the man still resting upon one knee, her golden eyes shimmered with a raw, defenseless wonder that no council chamber had ever witnessed.
Azriel’s lips curved into a soft, breathtaking smile.
Reaching into the velvet cushion, he lifted the band of Moon-Vein Silver.
His calloused, steady hand took hers, the warm contrast of his touch steadying her trembling fingers as he slowly, deliberately guided the metal home onto her fourth finger.
The ring’s self-adjusting rune hummed, shrinking to encircle her slender finger in a seamless, bespoke fit.
Rosalind’s breath caught, her pulse racing through her fingertips.
To her, a D-Rank artifact was an insignificant trinket, her vaults overflowed with ancient A rank and even S rank artifacts.
Yet this slender ring, pried with bare hands from the teeth of dungeon beasts, paid for with blood, sweat, and devotion, carried a weight so priceless, so singularly profound, that she wouldn’t have traded it for the imperial crown itself.
She traced the teardrop violet gem as it flared in time with her racing heart, its deep twilight glow mirroring the exact, striking shade of the violet eyes looking up into hers.
She didn’t calculate the shift. She didn’t grant permission or measure her dignity.
One moment she stood frozen under the starlight.
The next she had crossed the distance entirely, her hands finding his shoulders, her weight meeting his, and they went down together onto the cool marble of the courtyard floor, Azriel’s back hitting the stone, the ironwood case skittering to one side, Rosalind’s white hair cascading around them both like a curtain drawing closed.
She kissed him.
Her lips moved against his slowly.
Deeply.
Mm.
His hands came up without hesitation, one finding the small of her back and pressing her closer, one rising to the back of her head, fingers threading gently into the silk of her white hair.
She kissed him deeper.
Her fingers curled into the fabric at his shoulders, her chest pressed against his, the warmth of him beneath her a specific, grounding heat that she had learned to need with a thoroughness that still surprised her.
