The Female CEO's Personal Bodyguard
Chapter 2913: Under-the-Table Manipulation
Carson Flores instinctively frowned, "First come, first serve, well that gives room for manipulation..."
"Isn’t that right?"
Boyd complained discontentedly, "The timing for the distribution of supplies is all decided by the Military Supply Office. Those with connections are informed first, while those without are informed later. If you’re not careful, you won’t even know when everything’s been given out."
Yackey Decker got worked up talking about this, "That’s not all; there are people cutting in line. Everyone lines up according to the rules of first come, first serve as they said, but there’s always someone cutting in line claiming they were here earlier, submitted their form first, and just left for a bit because of an errand."
"They say it like that, and the people at the Military Supply Office acknowledge it, allowing them to blatantly cut in line. We all have complaints but are too afraid to voice them. After all, who wants to offend the office staff when you still want your future supplies? And those at the office, don’t they all have backgrounds that you can’t afford to mess with?"
Carson Flores nodded, not offering further comments.
Such things exist everywhere.
The group hurried along and quickly arrived at the Military Supply Office in charge of magical treasures and Refining Materials. By then, quite a few people were already in the courtyard, obviously there to claim supplies.
Yackey Decker squeezed into the crowd and shortly squeezed back out with a joyful expression.
"Made it, the form’s been submitted!"
Carson asked, "Does submitting the form mean you can secure supplies?"
Yackey Decker nodded excitedly, "The Military Supply Office would usually have a verification. Once the number hits a certain amount, they stop accepting forms because the supplies are likely all claimed..."
Before Yackey Decker could finish, the crowd erupted into a commotion.
"Why stop now? I came rushing over as soon as I heard the news!"
"How many numbers have been given out? How come they’re gone already?"
"Yeah, not that many numbers have been handed out. Didn’t they say it was a large batch of supplies?"
"I noticed some people didn’t even line up..."
The person in charge of collecting forms scowled and said coldly, "Who said they didn’t line up? They arrived first and submitted their forms early. They just need to wait for their names to be called, no one said they had to line up."
"First come, first serve, that’s the rule. There’s only so much materials, some people will get them, some won’t. If you’re slow to get here, how can you blame others?"
The man pointed at someone in the crowd, "Look at him, he’s been waiting right in front of the office door just to collect supplies for how long. As soon as the supplies were available, he got them. You came leisurely, no supplies left, can you blame anyone?"
Everyone turned their eyes to the person pointed out by the man. The middle-aged man displayed an embarrassed smile without saying a word.
Anyone with another option wouldn’t want to hang around here every day.
How embarrassing it is.
To put it unkindly, it’s like begging.
It’s not a glorious thing; being pointed out like that is quite awkward.
Despite the embarrassment, he dared not utter a word. Offending them would mean no supplies, and what about the disciples then?
Yackey Decker whispered, "He’s similar to us, delayed for a long time and hasn’t secured any. He’s more willing to go all out..."
The ones who can make it here are all Great Land Prime Immortals, respected everywhere outside.
However, this is the War God Mansion, where strong people gather, Great Land Prime Immortals are nothing here. To get what you want, you must follow their rules.
Yackey Decker’s eyes were filled with complexity, a mix of sympathy for a similar situation and admiration for that person’s courage.
Carson Flores chuckled lightly to comfort him, "We got ours too, after all; it’s a good thing."
Yackey Decker nodded, a slight relaxed smile appearing on his face, "It’s still because we came with the Sect Master this time, the timing was right, riding on the Sect Master’s luck."
Carson laughed, "This has nothing to do with me."
With the forms collected, everyone relaxed a bit and sat waiting in the spacious courtyard.
People came and went in the courtyard, some cautious, some lively and carefree, displaying all facets of life in this small space.
Cultivators left with supplies one after another, and the number of people in the courtyard dwindled, as those without submitted forms were driven out. Of course, there were still some hopefuls waiting outside, just in case more supplies became available.
Yackey Decker pointed to a man ahead, whispering, "After him, it’s our turn..."
Carson Flores nodded but hadn’t spoken when suddenly a well-dressed middle-aged man entered from outside.
He stood at the entrance, saying nothing, just scanning around. Spotting him, the man who had been collecting forms brightened up and went straight to him, leading him aside.
Soon after, the man in charge led the middle-aged man into the room, glancing in this direction.
Carson suddenly had a bad feeling. Could luck really be so poor?
