Chapter 75: Ch 75. Selena’s Trap

For a moment, tension mounted over Selena’s question. The Second Wolf Lord narrowed his eyes sharply, while Selena stared back at him with a calm and serious expression.

"What did you say? I don’t understand," he retorted, making Selena smile.

The Wolf servants had already brought the food and drinks Selena had requested. They politely served the drinks to the Second Wolf Lord’s table, then respectfully took their leave, leaving Selena alone with him.

"There’s no way you don’t understand. Yesterday, Stoner told me that you’ve been holding his mother captive somewhere. He’s trying to find out where she is because that woman is his weakness. I also want to hold his weakness over him because he once nearly forced me to my death—that’s why I’m asking you, since I know you must know where his mother is being held," Selena said with such calculated precision that the Second Wolf Lord fell silent.

He truly hadn’t expected Selena to change this much. Back then, Selena was a weak girl who lacked both the abilities and this way of thinking. Now that he’d met her again, the transformation was truly staggering, and this woman must not be allowed to stay by Stoner’s side—she could become a dangerous threat.

That was why he had been sent—to separate Selena from Stoner. Stoner was a fool, both to him and to the small pack of wolves still following them. With Selena like this by his side, it was nothing short of a serious threat.

"I don’t know where her mother is; that woman might still be in contact with Stoner’s father, the Old Wolf King. Meanwhile, her mother and I aren’t particularly close. If you’re curious about where her mother is, you’d better ask her father directly. He’ll definitely cooperate with you on this, since he doesn’t like Stoner either," said the Second Wolf Lord honestly.

Selena held back a smile, silently cursing him as a fool because the man in front of her really was a fool. It seemed that most of the beastkin in this world were indeed foolish—bad at keeping secrets and careless.

Selena, with the modern mindset she’d brought from her previous life, felt as though she were dealing with little children who needed a hug or their mother’s back to hide behind. Their thinking wasn’t as sharp as Selena had imagined, which was why she often had the upper hand—dealing with them was far easier than dealing with humans.

It was true: humans were the most cunning and intelligent creatures in this world. That was why they caused so much destruction—all because of their own actions, never satisfied with what they already had.

"To be honest, I’m not very close to the Old Wolf King—I don’t even know where he lives now. If I tried to go to his place, I’d probably end up going the wrong way," said Selena, then picked up her glass and calmly took a sip.

The Second Wolf Lord watched Selena as she drank, then picked up his own glass and drank from it without suspicion, since their cups and their contents were identical. The servant brought them both here earlier, so everything must be fine.

"That’s easy if you really want to meet the Old Wolf King. I can help you meet him, but there’s a condition," said the Second Wolf Lord, looking serious.

"Oh, really? If you can help me?"

"Of course. As allies, my older brother and I have never been apart and have always lived together. We lead a pleasant life, sharing the same home and the same way of life. You’d surely be happy to join us—our world is free, unlike the one on this throne."

"You wear a beautiful and elegant crown, but your husband, the King, neither loves nor respects you. So it’s as if you’re wearing that crown, yet it feels like you’re sticking thorns on your head," he said earnestly.

Selena raised her eyebrows, looking curious. "That sounds pretty good—I don’t really enjoy my status as Queen here anyway," Selena said, then smiled broadly and stood up. "Well, what a coincidence! Since there are no kings at the Palace, how about we leave right now?"

The Second Wolf Lord seemed pleased to hear this; he stood up as well and nodded.

"Of course, this is the perfect time. They won’t know where you’re going, so they won’t be able to find you," he said enthusiastically.

Selena smiled, then looked at Vee. "Pack my things; I’ll start taking them to another place as my first refuge," Selena said, causing Vee to blink in disbelief.

However, seeing Selena’s serious expression, Vee nodded obediently. "Yes, Your Majesty."

The Second Wolf Lord seemed satisfied with what Selena had said. "Go ahead, Queen... You don’t need to devote yourself to this place; they don’t deserve your valuable help," he said gently, extending his hand toward the door.

Selena smiled and walked gracefully down the steps of the throne. She led the way, followed by the Second Wolf Lord, who seemed to be smiling cynically behind her.

However, after just a few steps, the Second Wolf Lord collapsed; he simply fainted right behind her. Selena, who heard the sound of his body hitting the ground, stopped immediately; she turned around casually and smiled amusedly at the man’s condition.

"You’re such a loser—you can’t even tell the scent of poison in your own glass. How could Stoner Grey’s father have sent you to face me?" she muttered with a blank expression.

Vee, who was still in the room, swallowed hard; for some reason, she felt relieved to realize that Selena had been acting the whole time. After all, Selena was actually exhausted, and traveling long distances would take a toll on her.

Especially if she had to face Stoner’s father and his two uncles—Vee worried Selena wouldn’t be able to hold her own, given that she’d only just recovered.

"Your Majesty, you don’t really want to go with him, do you?" Vee asked hesitantly, causing Selena to look at her and raise an eyebrow.

"No, why would I go with him? Who does he think he is to boss me around?" Selena replied with a playful expression, causing Vee to breathe a sigh of relief.

"I thought you were planning to run away—you were so serious just now when you were talking to him. Especially since you even asked me to pack your things; I thought you were serious because you really intended to leave the Kings," said Vee, though she deliberately spoke the last part as softly as possible.

Selena gave a wry smile. "Your thinking is too shallow. I want to go on an adventure around all of Eldoria. I’m capable of traveling on my own—why would I have to go with him when he clearly has evil intentions?" Selena said, making Vee wince.

She knew Selena wasn’t that stupid; she’d truly been fooled earlier because Selena had been so convincing. In fact, she hadn’t aroused the Second Wolf Lord’s suspicion at all—even though evil people are always suspicious—yet this woman had casually played her part until the man was trapped.

Vee looked at the Second Wolf Lord, who lay unconscious on the ground, then sighed.

"What should we do with him, Your Majesty? After all, he’s the Wolf King’s uncle and the eldest brother of the former Wolf King. If something happens to him like this and word gets back to them, we could be in danger," said Vee, but Selena casually cracked her lower back as she swayed.

"Don’t worry, I already know what to do. For now, let’s wait for the Wolf King to return first, and have Kav and Kev take him to a special prison. Once the Wolf King is back, we’ll talk to him again about what’s best to do with this man, who happens to be his uncle. I’m going to get some sleep now—I’m tired," Selena replied, prompting Vee to finally nod.

As Kav and Kev carried the Second Wolf Lord’s body to the prison, Selena walked gracefully behind them, taking her time and deliberately bringing up the rear to ensure everything was secure.

But around Selena, there were whispers of people gossiping about her. Some of them were upset because Selena had almost sided with their traitor—who was no longer recognized by the Wolf clan—but everything changed when they heard what had happened in the end.

It turned out Selena had deliberately played a trick to bring down a figure who thought he was the most powerful. Selena didn’t even touch him at all; she had simply slipped poison into his drinking water by quietly snapping her fingers.

"Your Majesty, is there anything else you’d like to do?"

Selena shook her head, smiling calmly as she looked at Vee. "I want to go back to my room and take a nap. Just let everything be as if nothing ever happened. Also, clean up what’s inside, and after that, please organize my valuables in the warehouse—if one room isn’t enough, just open the one next to it," Selena said, causing Vee to nod.

Selena walked away, then stretched slowly, extending both her arms. "Sleep will be so blissful right now—Uh finally, I can rest."
