The Exiled Alpha's Human Male Mate.[BL]
Chapter 134: The Goddess’s Soothing Voice.
"Let’s go," Bryce said to Vincent, pretending not to care about what was unfolding in front of him.
Vincent hesitated, briefly holding Bryce back before he could walk away.
"We can’t just leave the packhouse like this, packed with so many people. Not everyone here is a member of Moonlight Pack," he said, making Bryce stop and turn toward him.
"Right," Bryce admitted. "I’m not thinking straight right now."
Vincent turned to face the crowd, his attention settling particularly on the Alphas.
"You trespassed into my pack’s territory. Before I decide how to deal with that violation, you have one minute to get out of it! And let this be the last time anything like this happens, because next time, the consequences will be beyond anything you can imagine."
His voice sounded unlike anything Bryce had ever heard from him, not even resembling the authoritative tone he used when addressing his employees at the company.
This was different.
Vincent sounded like a powerful leader, someone accustomed to commanding others and having his orders obeyed without question.
The warning in his voice was unmistakable, leaving no room for anyone to mistake the seriousness of his words.
"The rest of you who have no business being here, leave along with them," he added.
Some people began walking away sluggishly, clearly unsatisfied with how everything had unfolded.
Their reluctance was obvious in their slow movements.
Vincent’s patience quickly wore thin.
Before he could stop himself, a loud, powerful roar erupted from him, the unmistakable sound of an Alpha who had reached the end of his tolerance.
It was so forceful that people immediately covered their ears, while the ground beneath their feet seemed ready to tremble under its sheer intensity.
The effect was immediate.
Everyone quickened their movements, including the Alphas who had arrived with such confidence. Most of the people shifted into their wolf forms and hurried through the enormous main gate.
Bryce’s father had hesitated at first, but the moment Vincent’s roar rang out, he rushed away as well.
Within moments, the compound had cleared remarkably quickly, leaving behind only a few people dressed in maid uniforms, the guards, and Marcel.
Bryce and Vincent stood still for a moment, looking over the space that had been crowded only moments earlier before turning to face each other.
"That was unexpected..." Vincent muttered.
He sounded genuinely surprised by what had just happened. He had roared before, but never had it produced such a powerful reaction. What surprised him even more was that the roar had escaped him involuntarily.
"I feel some kind of power radiating from you, but I can’t quite figure out what it’s about." Bryce replied.
He had sensed it only moments earlier, though he still couldn’t identify exactly what he was feeling.
"A lot of things are happening at once. I can’t actually believe Leah is your..." Vincent began, his voice cautious as he approached the subject.
"I don’t want to talk about it," Bryce interrupted immediately.
"Okay," Vincent muttered.
They fell silent again.
Bryce no longer seemed to be in a hurry to leave.
"So, tonight..." Vincent began again, his voice carrying an uncertainty he could not quite conceal.
He was uncertain about what the night would bring. He understood that Bryce was not in the right state of mind at the moment, but regardless, he still needed to prepare for the task awaiting them.
Bryce looked equally uncertain.
"I don’t know. I just want to finish everything and be gone by morning. But I don’t even know what I’m doing or how I’m supposed to be doing this! Why did she give me this kind of work without speaking to me about it even once? She uses Agatha to speak to me about everything, why don’t she speak to me directly!?"
His frustration became increasingly apparent as he spoke. For a moment, it sounded as though he was beginning to direct his irritation about everything toward the goddess herself, questioning her decisions before he could stop himself.
Before Vincent could respond, a voice suddenly reached Bryce’s ears.
He turned his head, looking around in surprise.
It hadn’t sounded like a voice inside his mind. He had heard it through his ears, as clearly as though someone were standing nearby and speaking directly to him.
"You’re on the right track."
The voice was so soothing and smooth that anyone hearing it might have wanted to listen to it over and over again.
"You’re smart, and that is what I love most about you. Instead of letting people die on the spot, you introduced the dungeons, where they could reflect on everything they have done and suffer the consequences of their actions."
Bryce listened without interrupting.
"I can already tell that you’re uncertain about letting those people die in there. I can already tell that after they have suffered for long enough, you want to confirm whether they will regret everything they have done and whether they will live accordingly after that time.
So, you’re the one who must decide. Let them die, or do exactly what you’ve been silently thinking about. Whatever you choose is right, as long as you don’t misuse your powers, which I know you won’t."
Bryce was surprised at the fact that the goddess was aware of the thoughts he had kept to himself. She knew he had not settled on whether everyone sent to the dungeons deserved to die there.
He had considered allowing them time to reflect on their actions, then determining whether they genuinely regretted what they had done and could be released.
He had not openly explained those thoughts to anyone, not even Vincent or Agatha.
Apparently, he didn’t need to.
"As you know, tonight something terrible will fall upon the werewolf race. It’s something werewolves fear because it’s rare for them to get sick. All you’ll need to do is attend to each and every one of them. You won’t have to struggle with anything. You’ll see through them and immediately know whether they regret their actions or not."
The revelation made the approaching night feel even more significant.
"Once those who need to be eliminated have been eliminated, you’ll appoint new leaders and establish new rules across the realm. You’ll make sure those rules are followed to the letter. After what happens tonight, I’m certain things are going to change for the better."
Bryce listened quietly, taking in the instructions without interrupting once.
The goddess had heard his complaints and had finally decided to speak to him directly.
He had spent so much time wondering why she insisted on communicating through Agatha instead of addressing him herself.
"Vincent will be with you throughout that time. He has to be."
With those final words, the voice fell silent.
It did not speak again.
Bryce finally turned toward Vincent.
Vincent appeared to have been listening to something as well. His expression was focused, and his ears twitched slightly, as though he had been following a voice that Bryce could not see.
"You heard that?" Bryce asked.
"Yes," Vincent answered.
The simple confirmation brought Bryce an unexpected sense of relief.
He had not imagined the voice, and he had not been the only one to hear it. Whatever extraordinary experience he had just had, Vincent had experienced it too.
At least he wasn’t alone in this.
