The Delicate Darling with Her Rough Man

Chapter 779 - 775: Failed Plea for Help

  • Next Chapter

Sun Yeshu looked at Leng Qingtian, her eyes pleading for help.

Their relationship had been good since they married. The only time they’d had any friction was the last incident with Gu Jiaojiao; otherwise, things were always fine.

Sun Yeshu’s gaze was soft, her eyes shimmering with unshed tears. She looked utterly pitiful.

Although Leng Qingtian’s heart softened a little, he still steeled himself and turned his head away.

In the kitchen, Aunt Leng saw that Sun Yeshu still hadn’t come in and immediately let out another shrill curse. Only then did Sun Yeshu reluctantly go inside.

Back at the Qingshan Team, thanks to the new machines, the work that should have taken a month was finished in just ten days.

And that was only because some people, having offended Gu Jiaojiao, weren’t allowed to use the machines. Since they were ahead of schedule anyway, everyone else just waited for them to catch up.

As a result, it took a full ten days to finally wrap everything up. Those people had certainly learned their lesson.

The most prominent example was the Sun family.

Previously, Gu Jiaojiao had forgotten about the Sun family. Sun Yeshu was hiding out at her family’s home, and her mother, Mrs. Sun, being elderly, was also resting at home. So, no one from their family had gotten on her bad side.

But this time, Mrs. Sun and Sun Yeshu had provoked her, and Gu Jiaojiao, naturally, wasn’t going to show any mercy.

’Offend me and still expect to use the machines I developed? In your dreams.’

As luck would have it, the land assigned to the Sun family was the plot farthest from the river. The three men of the family were nearly worked to the point of collapse. Father Sun was furious this time. When he got home, he gave Mrs. Sun a harsh beating. In all her years of marriage, she had never been hit by her husband, but now she was beaten severely on several occasions.

That finally straightened Mrs. Sun out.

To avoid another beating, she even started going to the fields every day. But after just a few days, her body couldn’t take the strain.

Luckily, the farm work was finally over.

Meanwhile, the family of Eldest Sun, having already split their household from the rest of the Sun family, were not affected in the slightest.

Watching the other branch of the family struggle so much, Eldest Sun’s two daughters-in-law became much more respectful toward their own mother-in-law when they got home.

It was their mother-in-law who had insisted on splitting the households back then. If she hadn’t, they would have been dragged down with the rest of the Sun Family.

’This mother-in-law of ours really has foresight.’ Eldest Sun finally understood the saying: a virtuous wife brings her husband few troubles. He looked at his younger brother, who had married a clueless woman, one who went out of her way to offend Gu Zhiqing.

They didn’t even stop to consider Gu Zhiqing’s current standing in the team.

The team leader protected her.

She was on good terms with the village chief’s family.

Even the accountant had to greet her with a deferential smile.

For the Sun family to provoke someone the entire Qingshan Team leadership doted on... that was just courting death.

Thinking about how much work they’d done lately—earning a ton of work points without getting too tired—made Eldest Sun feel positively smug.

Normally, during the busy farming season, a typical household would earn a full three hundred work points for the month. But with the machines, his branch of the family earned those three hundred points in just ten days. Meanwhile, the other branch of the Sun family hadn’t even managed to earn one hundred points per person in that same time.

The two Sun sons had been injured and had to rest for several days.

That left only Father Sun, who also had to worry about household matters and didn’t earn many work points either.

All told, the difference was over two hundred work points per person. Calculated as a family unit, that was a loss of at least a thousand work points.

Good heavens. The grain from a thousand work points was enough to feed two people for an entire year.

Tsk tsk.

No matter how sympathetic Eldest Sun felt, he wasn’t about to get involved. He just looked at his own wife with growing satisfaction.

Gu Jiaojiao, of course, was oblivious to all of this. Ever since she had dealt with the Sun and Leng families, no one in the entire Qingshan Team dared to cause trouble in front of her again.

With the busy farming season over, it was time to turn in the grain.

Leng Yuan and Jiang Baishu went to help. Gu Jiaojiao glanced at the calendar. It showed July 26th. Only a few days remained until Jiang Baishu had to return to his unit.
