Chapter 1107 - 17: Putting a Green Hat on the Prince

"Alright, alright, I’ll buy it," Prince Kang reluctantly said, though he didn’t agree in his heart. He was a man, how could he use a woman’s money—how shameless would that be to say aloud.

...

In the evening, the housekeeper went to deliver the pearls.

Before reaching the wall called a door, Concubine Qin stopped him.

"What is this?" Concubine Qin glared at the wooden box in the housekeeper’s hand, her gaze malicious. This box looked very familiar. The Prince had given her a box of pearls using such a box. Are there pearls inside? The Prince wants to give it to the Princess?

"I don’t know," the housekeeper, of course, would not reveal that the box was filled with pearls the Prince wanted to gift the Princess, only saying that he didn’t know.

"Give it here," Concubine Qin said, her face darkening.

The housekeeper didn’t move. Meanwhile, the young servant behind the housekeeper, sensing trouble, had already hurried off to find Prince Kang.

"Are you rebelling, you scoundrel? You, a housekeeper, dare not even listen to me?" Concubine Qin erupted in anger, seeing the housekeeper still unmoved. This housekeeper had always been insincere towards her, and now dared to openly defy her.

"This is the Prince’s order for me to deliver to the backyard. I hope Concubine Qin will not make things difficult for me," the housekeeper replied with neither servility nor arrogance. If there’s any issue, please go find the Prince.

"Go, bring it to me," Concubine Qin, hearing the housekeeper’s words, became even more furious and commanded the people behind her to snatch the box.

The people behind Concubine Qin hesitated. They tried hard to please and flatter Concubine Qin, but that was based on the Prince’s favor towards her. The housekeeper was a confidante of the Prince; opposing him openly would be crossing the Prince. Offending the Prince to please Concubine Qin—that would be the act of a fool!

After Concubine Qin issued the order, she found that the people behind her were not moving.

She turned to glance at them, and none dared to meet her gaze, all lowering their heads in guilt.

"A bunch of useless things!" Concubine Qin cursed angrily, stepping forward herself to snatch the box. At this moment, she finally realized how vital it was to have her own confidants.

The housekeeper was startled to see Concubine Qin come to snatch the box and dared not fight her directly. Concubine Qin seized the box swiftly, opened it forcefully, and indeed found a box full of round, lustrous pearls, clearly of better grade than the ones given to her!

Concubine Qin was shaking with rage.

The Prince had promised to give her the best, but this was the result?

Giving her the inferior ones, the best pearls to the Princess?

Wasn’t she the Prince’s true love?

Why?

Concubine Qin felt betrayed, her heart filled with resentment and fury.

She raised the wooden box in hand, intending to smash it hard to the ground.

"What are you doing?" Prince Kang’s thunderous voice suddenly sounded.

"You’re here just in time, I was going to ask you. Are all the ones you gave me inferior? This box of good pearls is to be given to that woman? Why?" Concubine Qin furiously questioned.

"Does this Prince need to ask why he gives something to someone?" Prince Kang stared at the enraged Concubine Qin and then glanced at the servants around him who lowered their heads, instantly feeling humiliated by Concubine Qin’s questioning.

"You said it, you promised to treat me well and give me everything of the best," Concubine Qin threw the wooden box to the ground, covered her face, and ran off crying.

Prince Kang watched the pearls scattered across the ground, his face darkening.
