The CEO's Wife Is a Medical Master
Chapter 751: Absolutely Stunning (Part 1)
Ruby Walsh was a new student in this year’s class. She had wanted to participate in the military training just like a normal student, but Sheldon Caldwell’s regimen was too intense. Her body simply couldn’t handle it. She tried to tough it out at first, but by the end of the first day, she went into cardiac arrest.
Vera Xavier used her X-ray vision to take a close look at her heart. The problem was indeed serious. Currently, neither medication nor surgery available in the country could make much of a difference for a condition like hers.
Based on Vera Xavier’s experience, it was very difficult for someone with a heart condition like Ruby Walsh’s to live past the age of twenty-five.
Vera Xavier thought for a moment before saying, “That’s not necessarily true. Medical technology is so advanced these days. Maybe in a year or two, they’ll find a way to treat your condition.”
Ruby Walsh gave her a smile. “Let’s hope so!”
Vera Xavier took Ruby Walsh’s hand and said, “Trust me, you’re going to get better!”
A whistle blew. Vera Xavier glanced back and saw her squad was already lining up. She said to Ruby Walsh, “In your condition, you should go home and rest. Just come back to school after the military training is over!”
“I’m going to die of boredom staying at home all day,” Ruby Walsh said earnestly. “Even if I can’t participate in the training, I can still watch you all.”
Vera Xavier saw a hint of longing in her eyes. After a moment of thought, Vera said, “I guess that’s fine, but you have to make sure you rest. Don’t wear yourself out.”
Ruby Walsh laughed. “You’re starting to sound as naggy as my mom. Now go on, get to your training!”
Vera Xavier smiled, rejoined her squad, and continued with the training.
In the afternoon, they practiced marksmanship. Vera Xavier seemed to have a real talent for it. After the instructor finished his lesson, he had the students start shooting. Vera immediately hit the nine-ring.
Her instructor was stunned for a moment. She was the only girl who had managed a score like that.
So, the instructor reported this to Sheldon Caldwell. Sheldon was in a foul mood today because of Susan Caldwell. After hearing the instructor’s report, he curled his lip and said, “I’m not surprised, no matter how outstanding she is. Right now, I just pray she doesn’t cause any more trouble for me!”
He was actually a little afraid of Vera Xavier now. ‘She usually seems so pleasant and agreeable. How can she be so terrifying when she gets angry?’
The instructor said softly, “I don’t think she’s caused any trouble…”
Sheldon Caldwell’s glare cut off the rest of his sentence.
Sheldon Caldwell’s feelings were complicated. ‘It feels like ever since I met Vera Xavier, she’s done nothing but stir up trouble right in front of me. But she’s never lost once. I should probably help her cultivate that spirit of hers.’
‘Since she’s so good at stirring things up, she might as well win back some face for me. I have to make her shine in this upcoming competition against the military academy cadets!’
With that, he stood up, walked over to Vera Xavier, and asked, “Have you ever shot a gun before?”
“Does shooting balloons at a carnival count?” Vera Xavier retorted with a question of her own.
Sheldon Caldwell stared at her for three seconds. “I’m in a bad mood right now,” he said. “Don’t give me a hard time.”
“I’m the one who just got screwed over. I need to call someone with connections and vent my feelings. Can I request permission to make a phone call now?” Vera Xavier asked as she looked at him.
When Sheldon Caldwell saw the hint of accusation in her clear eyes, he felt a strange sense of guilt. He immediately softened his tone and said, “Guns for shooting balloons at a carnival don’t count. That means you’re very talented. I’d like to give you some special training.”
