Shirley Ewing didn’t think much of it and quickly asked, "Really? Where’s your lipstick? Let me see what it’s like. I’ll go buy one tomorrow, too."

Vera sighed to herself. ’Thank goodness Nathaniel gave me a tube of lipstick today. Otherwise, this would have been really hard to explain.’

So she quickly took the lipstick out of her pocket. Nathaniel had already removed the packaging before giving it to her, so taking it out now wouldn’t give her away.

But when she saw the logo on the lipstick, her heart sank. It was an extremely expensive international brand; a small tube like this cost hundreds of yuan.

’Nathaniel said he just picked it up while on a mission? Who is he trying to fool? This stuff basically isn’t even available in the country right now! Besides, he’s always in some sparsely populated area for his missions. Where could he possibly have bought a lipstick like this?’

Her only consolation was that since this item wasn’t sold in the country, the other girls in the dorm probably wouldn’t recognize it.

Vera smiled and handed the lipstick to Shirley, who took it, examined it closely, and said, "The color of this lipstick is so light. How does it look so good on your lips? Ooh, and it smells amazing!"

Fiona Wright chimed in, "Vera’s natural lip color is already beautiful. She just needs a tiny bit of makeup to look absolutely stunning!"

"That’s true." Shirley looked at Vera with a hint of melancholy. "I feel like heaven has always favored Vera. It’s one thing that she’s gorgeous, but her skin is also amazing. After these past few days of military training, every one of us is as dark as charcoal, but her skin is still so supple and fair."

Vera smiled. It did seem like this was one area where heaven truly blessed her. Her skin had indeed always been very good; she was basically the type who couldn’t get a tan no matter how much sun she got.

But even if she didn’t tan easily, she had been applying sunscreen every day since the military training started, which was why the overall condition of her skin looked so excellent.

Fiona Wright sighed. "Yeah, heaven is really good to Vera. Fair skin, a beautiful face, long legs... She could totally get by on her looks, but she just has to be incredibly capable too. How are the rest of us supposed to survive!"

Vera said seriously, "My looks are from my parents, so there’s nothing to show off. But if you want to be envious of my grades, go right ahead. I earned those through my own hard work."

"You’re so not modest!" Fiona and Shirley giggled and teased her.

Lying on her bed, Laura White glanced at Vera. She bit her lip lightly, then put down her book and said, "Lights-out is soon, and you all still have so much energy! The military training is so intense, yet you’re all still this hyper. Why don’t you go ask the drill instructor to make you run an extra ten laps tomorrow?"

Shirley pursed her lips but held her tongue, since they were all roommates.

They had all recently gotten a taste of Laura’s temper. Her relationship with the other girls in the dorm wasn’t very good. She was usually blunt and difficult, her words unpleasant, and she always kept to herself.

Vera simply raised an eyebrow and went straight to the bathroom to wash up. Shirley followed her in and said in a low voice, "Laura is so difficult to get along with. The way she said that... it was just plain nasty."
