But before she could even feel touched, he said, "Put some on next time you see me. I want to have a taste."

She immediately recalled the time in Crestfall when he had forced her to drink papaya soup. ’So he wasn’t actually concerned about the dry weather or my lips chapping, but was just seeking a perk for himself?’

She snatched the lip balm from his hand, turned, and ran off toward her dorm.

Nathaniel Nathan didn’t stop her this time. He knew it wasn’t the right place, being on campus. ’But this feeling... holding her, teasing her, touching her, but not being able to truly have her... it’s absolute torture!’

He stood there watching her leave, his gaze deepening.

Vera Xavier seemed to sense his gaze and stopped, looking back at him.

A faint, gentle smile played on her lips. The warm glow of the streetlight illuminated her face, making her skin appear as smooth as porcelain and her eyes shine like brilliant stars. Her lips were as red as cherries, her coquettish charm infused with a clear, refined beauty. The vibrant hibiscus flowers blooming behind her served only as a backdrop to her presence.

For the first time, Nathaniel Nathan truly understood the meaning of phrases like "lovelier than a flower" and "a backward glance and a smile that gives birth to a hundred charms."

He was dying to pull her back into his arms and kiss her properly.

Nathaniel Nathan was standing under a tree, away from the streetlights. Vera Xavier could only make out his silhouette and couldn’t see his expression, but she knew, without a doubt, that he was watching her.

She flashed him a brilliant smile, then turned and strode back toward the dormitory.

Nathaniel Nathan raised an eyebrow. ’I need to start seriously planning how to devour her, whole and complete.’ But the thought that she still had more than half a month of military training left made him feel a little melancholy.

He was busy most of the time, too, making it difficult to see her. After all, no one ever knew when he would be sent out on a mission.

Nathaniel Nathan let out a wistful sigh.

When Vera Xavier got back to the dormitory, she greeted the dorm manager as usual, then bounded lightly up the stairs.

The dorm manager sighed wistfully. "Ah, to be young again!"

Back in the dorm room, Vera Xavier found Fiona Wright and Shirley Ewing chatting, while Laura White was lying on her bed reading. The moment the door opened, all three turned to look at her, their eyes filled with concern.

Shirley Ewing stared at her for a while before asking, "Vera, why are your lips so red?"

Vera Xavier was instantly mortified; this was a difficult question to answer. She tried her best to look natural, forced a smile, and said, "Oh, I just bought a new lip balm from the campus store. It’s supposed to be one of those color-changing ones. Is it that red? Let me have a look."

She picked up a mirror to check her lips and immediately felt uncomfortable.
