The Billionaire's Heir I Never Knew Was Mine
Chapter 286: The Unexpected Call (2)
That experience had changed the way Sienna viewed them. She no longer considered Jenny someone she needed to forgive or understand.
As far as she was concerned, Jenny had made her choice, and she had made hers. But Maya was different. Sienna still cared about her aunt, and that was the problem.
Sienna’s expression became serious as she stared at the laptop in front of her.
She couldn’t risk Maya’s safety just because she wanted to cut Jenny out of her life. If Jenny had really done something to Maya, she needed to know what it was.
"All right," Sienna finally said, her voice still controlled. "Tell me what you want."
Sienna waited, her fingers resting against the edge of the desk. She didn’t trust Jenny, and she certainly didn’t believe that whatever Jenny wanted to discuss was as innocent as she was making it sound.
"If this is another of your foolish tricks to trap me," Sienna added firmly, "don’t expect me to play along because you won’t be able to hide it, and I will know from the get-go."
Her words were calm, but the warning behind them was clear. Jenny had already crossed the line once. She would not let Jenny take advantage of Maya again.
"Sienna, I’m not sure if you already know about your father..." Jenny finally spoke, her voice noticeably softer than before.
Sienna could only shake her head, even though Jenny couldn’t see her. She already had a feeling about where this conversation was going, but she didn’t interrupt.
"Jacob has been missing for some time now. To this day, we still haven’t found him. And we can’t ask the police to help, not after what your father did by making friends with some criminals. And these friends of his told us there’s a rumor that he might already be dead," Jenny said, her voice becoming more somber.
Sienna, however, felt nothing but a quiet sense of indifference. She no longer cared what happened to her father. Whether Jacob had disappeared or was already dead, neither possibility brought her pity or sadness.
As far as Sienna was concerned, Jacob Adams had died the moment he decided to use his own daughter to settle his debt with a gang boss.
"That’s why I’m looking for you," Jenny continued, her voice calmer now. The anger from earlier had almost completely disappeared. "You need to know this, Sienna. And... I hope you can help us find him. Please, Sienna, for the sake of your dad."
Sienna remained silent for a few moments before finally asking, "I don’t understand. Why do you still care about him when that man nearly took away your rights and tried to force you to sell the Adams family home?"
There was silence on the other end of the line. Jenny seemed unable to answer immediately, and Sienna could almost imagine the frustrated expression on her face.
"You should be grateful that he’s missing," Sienna continued, her voice remaining calm despite the anger building inside her. "If he were still around, he could bring even more trouble to your family. He might sell the house you’re living in, and if he had the chance, he might even sell your daughter to settle his debts. So, Aunty Jenny, please stop worrying about him. And stop calling me, too. I don’t want to have a relationship with any of you anymore."
Sienna no longer cared whether Jenny thought she was cruel. She had already made her decision. Cutting ties with that family was the best thing she could do for herself, and perhaps it was also the best thing for them. They no longer had any reason to stay connected, and Sienna wanted them all to live their own lives peacefully.
Her words clearly struck a nerve.
Jenny suddenly exploded again, throwing a few angry curses at her and accusing her of being heartless and ungrateful.
Sienna listened without interrupting, and despite herself, she felt a small sense of satisfaction hearing Jenny so furious. After everything that woman had done to her, Sienna no longer felt guilty for refusing to give her what she wanted.
Once she had heard enough of Jenny’s ranting, Sienna finally interrupted her.
"Are you finished? Now, please hand the phone back to Aunty Maya."
Jenny continued muttering angrily for a moment, but eventually, the phone changed hands.
A few seconds later, Maya’s familiar voice came through the line.
"Sienna..." Her voice trembled slightly. "I’m sorry, Sienna. I had no other choice."
Sienna’s expression softened immediately.
Maya lowered her voice, almost whispering as though she were afraid Jenny might overhear her. "She threatened to hurt my son."
The moment Sienna heard those words, the warmth in her expression disappeared. Anger rushed through her, and her mind immediately began working on a way to protect Maya. She didn’t want her aunt to get into trouble simply because Jenny knew that Maya had a direct way to contact her.
Sienna leaned back in her chair and rubbed her temples as a sudden headache began to form. She had originally planned to cut all ties with her former family and move on with her life, but now she couldn’t simply ignore Maya’s situation.
’Should I bring Aunty Maya and her family to the capital?’
The idea seemed like the safest solution.
"Aunty, is Aunt Jenny still there?" Sienna asked.
"Yes, she’s in the living room right now. I’m in the kitchen." Maya’s voice still sounded nervous.
Sienna closed her eyes for a moment. She didn’t want to make things more complicated for Maya, but leaving her there with Jenny was clearly not a good option. At that moment, she could no longer hold back the suggestion that had already formed in her mind.
"Aunty, what do you think about living your life and your children in the capital? I will help you move."
Silence followed.
Although Sienna couldn’t see Maya’s expression, she could easily imagine the shock on her aunt’s face. Maya had probably never expected such a suggestion, especially after everything that had happened between their families.
