The Billionaire's Heir I Never Knew Was Mine
Chapter 261: I Need To Meet Her Properly!
There was a brief pause on the other end.
Zachary’s heartbeat gradually quickened as countless possibilities and scenarios ran through his mind.
Had his mother questioned Sienna?
Had she mistaken Sienna for someone else?
None of those possibilities or scenarios sat well with him.
"Mother, did you talk to Sienna?" Zachary asked. The worry in his voice was impossible to hide.
He knew Sienna well enough to believe she wouldn’t deliberately create trouble, especially when meeting his parents for the first time. If anything had gone wrong, there had to be a misunderstanding.
"I did, and it’s not a pleasant conversation..." Hannah didn’t finish her sentence, leaving Zachary even more worried.
Zachary gritted his teeth, already picturing what had happened. Then his thoughts immediately drifted to Skylar. "How’s Sky?" he asked before Hannah could answer. "Is he alright?"
"They are all right, but they have already left..." Hannah’s regretful tone returned. "Son, you need to bring her to our house. I need to meet her properly!"
"I will..." Zachary answered, then he ended the call.
The elevator descended floor by floor, but it felt unbearably slow. Zachary resisted the urge to repeatedly press the close-door button, his patience wearing thinner with every passing second.
For the first time since the meeting had begun, the company’s billion-dollar project had completely disappeared from his thoughts. At that moment, nothing mattered more than finding out what had happened to his wife and son.
...
At Mogul Megamall.
Sienna and Skylar had already settled into one of the VIP rooms at the Japanese restaurant. The quiet room gave them some privacy after the unpleasant encounter at the photography store. For the first time since leaving the shop, Sienna felt that she could breathe a little easier.
However, even though they were now away from Hannah and Jessica, Sienna was still anxious and irritated.
She tried her best to hide those feelings from Skylar because she didn’t want her son to see how worried she was. He had already witnessed enough that afternoon, and the last thing she wanted was to make him more concerned about what had happened.
"Alright, let’s look at the menu first," she said casually as she picked up the menu and began reading through it.
Skylar sat beside her and immediately grabbed the dessert menu. He flipped through the pages one by one, studying each picture with the serious expression of someone making an important decision.
Sienna couldn’t help smiling when she saw how focused he was. She was about to choose something for herself when Skylar suddenly looked up.
"Mom, why didn’t you call Daddy?"
Sienna turned toward him with a warm smile. She had already tried calling Zachary, but his line had been busy. She didn’t want to keep calling him and make him panic, especially when she didn’t yet know whether he was in the middle of an important meeting. She could explain everything to him once they returned home.
What concerned her most at the moment was whether anything from the incident at the store had been posted online.
If someone had recorded her confrontation with Jessica and uploaded it, the situation could quickly become a major problem, especially because Jessica Simmons was a public figure. She had slapped her in front of several people, and she knew there was no way to predict how the public might react if a video of it appeared online.
For now, all she could do was trust her bodyguards to handle the situation.
"Sweetheart, I did call your daddy, but his line was busy," Sienna explained with a reassuring smile. "He was probably talking to someone else. Don’t worry. I’ll call him again later."
Skylar studied her face for a moment before his expression softened.
"Mom, don’t be sad, okay?"
Sienna’s smile faltered slightly when she noticed the worry in his eyes.
"Granny is kind," Skylar continued in his gentle voice. "She’ll understand if Daddy already explained everything about you."
Sienna’s heart warmed at his words. Once again, her son was worrying about her instead of himself. This wasn’t the first time he had noticed her uneasiness. Earlier, when Jessica and Hannah had confronted her, he had immediately stepped forward to defend her. Even though he was only six years old, he seemed to notice her emotions more easily than she expected.
She reached over and gently patted his back.
"I’m not sad, sweetheart. I’m just worried that you might be hungry after all that shopping." She gave him another smile. "Alright, let’s order. I’m starting to feel hungry too."
"Okay, Mom."
Skylar immediately returned his attention to the menu, and the worried expression on his face slowly disappeared as he began deciding what he wanted to eat.
After they placed their orders, Sienna leaned back in her chair and tried to relax.
The quiet atmosphere helped, and having Skylar beside her made the afternoon feel normal again. She watched him happily discuss the desserts he wanted, occasionally asking her opinion on what they should order.
A short while later, there was a knock on the VIP room door.
Sienna’s attention immediately shifted toward it. Her heart began beating faster as an uneasy thought crossed her mind.
’Could it be Hannah?’
She wasn’t ready to face her mother-in-law again, especially not without Zachary there. Their first meeting had already gone badly enough, and Sienna didn’t want another confrontation while she was still trying to calm down.
"Ma’am, it’s me, Logan. May I come in?"
The familiar voice came from behind the door.
Sienna immediately relaxed.
"Yes, come in."
The door opened, and Logan stepped inside. He was carrying Skylar’s shopping bag from the photography store.
Skylar’s eyes immediately brightened when he saw it.
"Oh, Logan! You found my shopping bag."
"Yes, Young Master. The store staff gave it to me," Logan replied as he handed the bag to him.
Skylar happily accepted it and checked inside to make sure the lens was still there.
While Skylar was busy with his shopping bag, Logan turned toward Sienna. His expression became slightly guilty as he lowered his head.
