The Billionaire Who Stole His Wife
Chapter 54: Federal Ghosts
The spotlight blinded the entire deck.
Rain turned silver beneath the harsh white beam while the black military vessel cut through the harbor like something dragged out of a war zone.
Nobody moved.
Nobody breathed.
Then the voice thundered across the water again.
"THIS IS A FEDERAL OPERATION. ALL PERSONNEL DROP YOUR WEAPONS IMMEDIATELY."
Theo blinked slowly.
"...Well."
Allison looked at him. "Well what?"
"That’s new."
Dorian Kreel had stopped smiling.
And that—
That was the first genuinely terrifying thing Allison had seen all night.
Because up until now, Dorian moved like a man ten steps ahead of everyone else.
But this?
This he hadn’t expected.
The massive military ship drifted alongside the cargo vessel with terrifying precision while armed tactical teams lined the rails dressed in black combat gear.
No insignias.
No visible branch markings.
Nothing identifiable.
Anthony stared in horror.
"Who the hell are those people?"
Theo’s expression darkened slightly.
"That," he said quietly, "is a very bad sign."
Lucian never looked away from Clara’s container.
"Explain."
Theo exhaled once.
"People like Dorian don’t attract normal law enforcement."
Dorian snapped suddenly—
"Shut up."
Theo’s eyes flicked toward him.
Interesting.
The first emotional crack.
The first real fear.
Allison saw it too.
Dorian wasn’t afraid of Lucian.
Or Adrian.
Or even being caught.
He was afraid of whoever just arrived.
The federal speaker crackled again.
"DORIAN KREEL. RELEASE THE CHILD AND STEP AWAY FROM THE CONTAINER."
Dorian’s jaw tightened hard.
Lucian noticed immediately.
"You know them."
Dorian ignored him.
Wrong move.
Theo’s voice lowered carefully.
"You used to work for them."
Silence.
Then Dorian laughed once.
Humorless.
Ugly.
"Worked with them."
The tactical teams on the approaching ship raised weapons in synchronized motion.
Rain lashed violently across both vessels.
The harbor suddenly felt too small.
Too exposed.
Anthony whispered—
"Oh my God..."
Because for the first time all night—
Anthony realized this was bigger than family warfare.
Much bigger.
Dorian slowly stepped backward toward Clara’s container.
Lucian moved instantly.
Dorian raised the gun sharply.
"Don’t."
Clara whimpered from inside.
Lucian stopped again.
Every muscle in his body looked ready to snap.
Allison stepped closer carefully.
"She’s scared."
Dorian’s eyes flicked toward her briefly.
"She should be."
Allison’s expression hardened instantly.
"You’re a coward."
That got his attention.
Interesting.
Dorian looked at her properly for the first time.
Rain soaked her curls against her face while Lucian remained half-positioned in front of her instinctively.
Protective without thinking.
Allison didn’t back down.
"You hide behind children because powerful men are the only thing you actually understand."
Theo muttered softly—
"Jesus."
Dorian’s pale eyes narrowed slightly.
"You think you understand this situation?"
"No," Allison snapped. "I think you’re pathetic."
Lucian looked sideways at her briefly.
Even now.
Even here.
His wife somehow still knew how to pick fights with armed psychopaths.
Dorian’s voice lowered dangerously.
"You’re very brave for someone kidnapped twice in one month."
Lucian moved before thought could catch him.
Fast.
Violent.
Dorian fired immediately.
BANG.
Allison screamed his name—
"LUCIAN!"
The shot missed by inches as Lucian slammed into Dorian hard enough to send both men crashing against the cargo railing.
Chaos exploded instantly.
Federal teams surged onto the deck from the military vessel.
Adrian’s security drew weapons again.
Dorian’s remaining men opened fire.
The harbor erupted into war.
Theo grinned sharply.
"There it is."
Then launched himself into the nearest attacker.
⸻
Combat on the Deck
Everything became noise.
Gunfire.
Rain.
Metal.
Shouting.
Allison dropped behind stacked cargo crates just as bullets ripped across the deck overhead.
Anthony dove beside her breathing like he was seconds from cardiac arrest.
"I’m going to die."
Allison looked over.
"You are manifesting negativity."
"WE ARE ON A MILITARY SHIP BATTLEFIELD!"
Fair.
Very fair.
Simone crouched beside Elias behind another cargo stack while Elias furiously typed into a waterproof tablet.
Simone looked over the edge of the crate.
Then immediately ducked back down.
"Oh my God. Theo is smiling again."
Elias didn’t look up.
"That’s usually bad."
"Usually?!"
Theo absolutely was smiling.
Because Theo fought like violence made sense to him in ways normal life never did.
One federal operative rushed him from the left.
Theo sidestepped smoothly, grabbed the man’s tactical vest, and used his momentum to slam him directly into the steel cargo wall.
Another operative aimed for Theo’s blind side.
Theo ducked low, swept the man’s legs, and punched him once across the jaw before disarming him completely.
Then paused briefly.
"...This equipment is expensive."
The operative groaned from the floor.
Theo shot him a charming smile.
"Sorry about your healthcare."
Meanwhile—
Lucian and Dorian tore across the rain-soaked deck like two men trying to kill ghosts.
Dorian fought brutally.
Efficient.
Military-trained.
No wasted motion.
But Lucian?
Lucian fought angry.
And that made him terrifying.
Dorian swung first.
Lucian caught the strike, twisted hard, and drove his elbow directly into Dorian’s ribs.
Dorian grunted sharply and countered fast enough to clip Lucian across the jaw.
Lucian barely reacted.
Instead he slammed Dorian against the cargo railing hard enough to shake the entire structure.
"Where," Lucian growled, "is the key?"
Dorian smiled despite blood at the corner of his mouth.
"You’re emotional."
Lucian hit him again.
Harder.
Dorian laughed breathlessly.
"There he is."
Allison watched from behind cover, heart hammering.
Because this wasn’t business anymore.
This wasn’t strategy.
Lucian was furious enough to forget himself.
And Dorian was deliberately pushing him there.
Then Clara cried out from inside the container again.
"PLEASE!"
Everything stopped.
Lucian’s head snapped toward the sound instantly.
Dorian used the distraction.
He slammed his forearm into Lucian’s throat and shoved him backward across the slick deck.
Theo saw it immediately.
"Lucian!"
Dorian grabbed a remote trigger from his tactical vest.
Everyone froze.
The rain suddenly sounded deafening.
Dorian held the trigger up calmly.
"One more step and the container locks permanently."
Allison’s stomach dropped.
"What?"
Dorian’s eyes stayed on Lucian.
"Pressure-sealed interior. Oxygen controlled externally."
Lucian went deathly still.
Dorian smiled faintly.
"She has maybe twenty minutes if I activate it."
The federal teams paused too.
Nobody wanted to risk the child.
Then the federal speaker crackled again.
"DORIAN KREEL. STAND DOWN."
Dorian shouted back without looking away from Lucian—
"You should’ve left me buried!"
The words hit strangely.
Theo noticed too.
His expression shifted slightly.
Buried.
Not arrested.
Not imprisoned.
Buried.
Oh.
Oh no.
Theo slowly looked toward the approaching federal vessel again.
Then back at Dorian.
"You faked his death."
Nobody answered.
Which was answer enough.
The federal teams tightened formation immediately.
Dorian laughed bitterly.
"See? They still think they control the narrative."
Lucian’s voice came out deadly calm.
"You kidnapped a child."
"No," Dorian snapped sharply. "I intercepted leverage."
Allison looked disgusted.
"That is not better."
Dorian ignored her.
His gaze locked onto the federal vessel.
"They create people like me," he said quietly. "Then panic when we survive too long."
Theo’s face darkened further.
"What were you?"
Dorian smiled without humor.
"Disposable."
The answer landed heavily.
Because suddenly Allison understood something horrifying.
Dorian wasn’t doing this for money anymore.
Or Martha.
Or leverage.
This had become personal.
A man discarded by powerful systems deciding to punish every powerful family he could reach.
And Clara?
Clara was just the easiest wound to press.
Lucian stepped forward one slow step.
Dorian immediately lifted the trigger higher.
Clara whimpered inside the container.
Lucian stopped instantly.
Dorian looked almost pleased.
"There’s the father instinct."
"I’m not her father."
"No," Dorian agreed softly. "But you wanted to save her anyway."
That hit harder than expected.
Because it was true.
Lucian’s breathing sharpened slightly.
Allison saw it.
So did Dorian.
Then the federal vessel shifted suddenly beside them.
A door opened along the upper deck.
And a woman stepped out.
Tall.
Dark-haired.
Long black tactical coat.
Mid-forties maybe.
Sharp enough to cut glass.
The second Dorian saw her—
He went pale.
Actually pale.
Theo muttered—
"Well... that’s definitely his trauma."
The woman’s voice carried clearly across the storm.
"Dorian."
Dorian’s expression twisted violently.
"Don’t."
The woman ignored him.
"You’ve escalated beyond recovery."
Dorian barked out a harsh laugh.
"You buried me in Belarus."
Allison blinked.
"...What?"
The woman continued calmly.
"You became unstable."
Dorian’s eyes burned with fury.
"You left me there to die."
Lucian’s gaze shifted between them carefully.
The woman finally looked toward the container.
Then at Lucian.
"Mr. Calloway."
Lucian’s voice remained cold.
"You know where the key is."
Not a question.
The woman nodded once.
"Yes."
Dorian snapped instantly.
"You touch that container and I kill everyone on this deck."
The woman’s expression didn’t move.
Interesting.
Terrifyingly interesting.
Because unlike Dorian—
She looked completely comfortable with threats.
Then Allison noticed something else.
The woman wasn’t looking at Clara’s container.
She was looking at Dorian.
Like Clara wasn’t the mission.
Dorian was.
Oh no.
Allison stepped closer to Lucian carefully.
"They’re not here for Clara."
Lucian’s eyes narrowed instantly.
The woman heard her anyway.
And smiled slightly.
Wrong.
Very wrong.
Then Dorian laughed.
Broken this time.
"See?" he whispered toward Lucian. "Now you understand."
The woman finally spoke again.
"Release the child."
Dorian slowly raised the trigger.
"No."
Then everything happened at once.
Anthony suddenly stumbled forward from behind cover.
Rain soaked.
Terrified.
Shaking violently.
But moving anyway.
"HEY!"
Everyone turned.
Anthony looked directly at Dorian.
"You said nobody would get hurt!"
Dorian stared at him blankly.
Then—
Actually laughed.
The sound echoed ugly across the deck.
Anthony’s face crumpled.
"You used me."
"Yes," Dorian said simply.
Anthony looked shattered.
For one devastating second, Allison saw the exact moment Anthony Morrison realized nobody—not his mother, not Vivienne, not Dorian—had ever truly valued him.
Just used him.
Dorian looked toward the federal woman again.
Then slowly smiled.
"Fine."
Lucian tensed instantly.
Too calm.
Dorian was suddenly too calm.
The woman noticed too.
"Dorian."
He looked toward Lucian one final time.
"You really should’ve stayed out of this."
Then Dorian pressed the trigger.
The container alarms immediately started screaming.
Clara began crying hysterically inside.
And every lock on the cargo deck slammed shut simultaneously.
Including the massive steel blast doors separating Lucian and Allison—
From the rest of the ship.
