The Billionaire Who Stole His Wife
Chapter 42: Maybe..Mrs. Calloway
The room exploded into motion.
Phones rang.
Security shifted.
Elias barked instructions into two devices at once.
Theo swore creatively in three different languages.
And in the middle of it—
The minister still stood there holding the marriage documents like a deeply overwhelmed substitute teacher trapped in a billionaire crime thriller.
Adrian turned toward him sharply.
"Finish."
The poor man blinked. "I— yes. Right. Of course."
Simone whispered to Allison, "This man is going to need therapy after tonight."
"No," Theo muttered while checking a weapon magazine. "He’s going to write a memoir."
Lucian never looked away from Allison.
Not even with chaos detonating around them.
The minister cleared his throat nervously and rushed through the final words.
"By the authority vested in me by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, I now pronounce you husband and wife."
The sentence landed strangely.
Heavy.
Real.
Sharp enough to cut through adrenaline.
Husband and wife.
Lucian Calloway’s expression changed first.
Subtly.
But Allison saw it.
Something protective in him locked into place instantly.
Not possession.
Commitment.
The kind that didn’t move once decided.
The minister looked between them uncertainly.
"You may—"
Lucian kissed Allison before the man even finished speaking.
Not careful.
Not hesitant.
And definitely not polite.
One hand came to her waist immediately, pulling her against him while the other slid into her curls like he had been thinking about doing this for hours.
Maybe days.
Maybe longer.
Allison made the softest startled sound against his mouth before kissing him back.
Hard.
Because apparently near-death experiences and emergency marriages completely destroyed her ability to act normal.
Simone screamed.
Theo groaned dramatically.
Susanna smiled through suspiciously emotional eyes.
Adrian looked relieved for approximately half a second before returning to business mode like emotions physically offended him.
Lucian pulled back slowly.
Too slowly.
His forehead rested briefly against Allison’s.
"You okay?" he asked quietly.
Allison stared at him.
"You kiss like you’re trying to win arguments."
His mouth curved slightly.
"Does it work?"
"...unfortunately."
Theo made a disgusted sound. "Can you two stop being emotionally compelling for five minutes?"
"No," Simone said immediately. "Actually continue."
Then Lucian reached into his jacket pocket.
Allison blinked.
"Oh no."
Lucian ignored that entirely and opened a black velvet box.
The room went silent again.
Inside sat a ring so beautiful it looked dangerous.
Not delicate.
Not subtle.
A massive oval-cut diamond framed by smaller stones set into platinum, elegant and sharp enough to look like royalty had commissioned it after surviving a war.
Allison stared.
Then stared harder.
"...Lucian."
Theo leaned over slightly and muttered, "Jesus Christ."
Simone clutched her chest. "I just became poor looking at it."
Lucian took the ring out carefully.
"I was going to do this differently."
Allison looked up at him immediately.
"What?"
His gaze stayed locked on hers.
"I already had the ring."
The room froze.
Simone made a sound like a dying Victorian woman.
Theo looked personally offended.
"You had a ring already?" Theo asked.
Lucian slid the ring onto Allison’s finger smoothly.
Perfect fit.
Of course it was.
Allison narrowed her eyes instantly.
"You terrifying man."
A faint smile touched his mouth.
"I plan ahead."
Theo barked out a laugh. "That is one way to describe whatever this obsession is."
Allison looked down at the ring.
The diamond caught the firelight violently.
Beautiful.
Elegant.
Unavoidable.
Like the man standing in front of her.
Lucian’s voice lowered for only her.
"I was waiting for the right time."
Something in her chest melted so fast it annoyed her deeply.
"You picked a kidnapping week?"
"You were busy."
Allison laughed helplessly despite herself.
Then Elias’s voice cut through the room sharply.
"It’s live."
Everyone turned.
Elias stood near the monitors, several screens glowing with news alerts already spreading across media platforms.
BREAKING: LUCIAN CALLOWAY AND ALLISON CROFT MARRIED IN PRIVATE CEREMONY
CROFT-CALLOWAY ALLIANCE CONFIRMED
MORRISON SCANDAL ESCALATES AFTER EMERGENCY MARRIAGE
CALLAWAY HEIR RESPONDS TO KIDNAPPING CLAIMS WITH LEGAL DOCUMENTATION
The forged kidnapping alert Vivienne leaked disappeared almost instantly beneath the avalanche of verified marriage records Adrian had strategically prepared.
Photos uploaded.
Legal timestamps confirmed.
Minister credentials authenticated.
Adrian had not simply responded.
He had buried her narrative alive.
Lucian’s phone immediately exploded with calls.
Board members.
International media.
Political figures.
He ignored all of them.
Allison’s phone buzzed next.
Then again.
Then continuously.
Simone looked over her shoulder.
"Oh my God. The internet is losing its mind."
Theo took one glance at social media trending topics and actually laughed.
"They’re calling you Boston’s most terrifying newlyweds."
Allison looked at Lucian.
"I kind of love that."
"I know."
⸻
Vivienne
Vivienne Laurent-Cassel threw the crystal glass hard enough to shatter against the wall.
Red wine exploded across white marble.
No one in the penthouse moved.
Not the assistants.
Not the guards.
Not the staff.
Because every person in that room understood something catastrophic had just happened.
Vivienne stood in front of the giant television screen, breathing unevenly.
And on the screen—
Lucian kissed Allison Croft like she belonged to him.
Like he had chosen her publicly without hesitation.
Without pressure.
Without strategy.
Chosen.
The news replayed the breaking announcement again.
LUCIAN CALLAWAY CONFIRMS MARRIAGE TO ALLISON CROFT HOURS AFTER KIDNAPPING ATTEMPT
Vivienne’s stomach twisted violently.
No.
No no no.
This was not how this was supposed to happen.
Lucian was supposed to stay controlled.
Reserved.
Untouchable.
Not reckless enough to marry another woman during an international scandal.
The reporter continued speaking.
"The emergency marriage legally aligns two of the most powerful families in the country and effectively neutralizes recent claims regarding Miss Croft’s status within the ongoing Morrison scandal..."
Neutralizes.
Vivienne’s knees nearly buckled.
Because that was the exact word.
Allison was no longer temporary.
No longer vulnerable socially.
No longer removable without consequences large enough to start wars.
Lucian had sealed her into his world permanently.
Vivienne’s hand trembled.
Anthony, sitting bruised and furious across the room, stared at the television with hollow disbelief.
"He married her."
Vivienne rounded on him instantly.
"This is your fault."
Anthony laughed bitterly.
"My fault?" He pointed toward the screen. "You’re the one who obsessed over him!"
"Because you failed to control Allison!"
Anthony surged to his feet. "You think anybody controls her?!"
The room went silent.
Even Vivienne paused.
Anthony laughed again, exhausted and broken around the edges.
"That’s the problem, Vivienne. We kept treating Allison like she was some quiet little assistant."
His eyes flicked toward the television.
"But she’s Adrian Croft’s daughter."
The words landed hard.
Because it was true.
They had underestimated her from the beginning.
Anthony looked back at Vivienne.
"And now she’s Lucian’s wife."
The title sliced through Vivienne like glass.
Wife.
Not potential.
Not temporary.
Wife.
Something cracked.
Not loudly.
Not visibly.
But enough.
Vivienne stepped toward the television slowly, eyes fixed on Allison’s hand as the cameras zoomed in on the ring.
That ring.
Vivienne knew that ring.
Lucian commissioned it eight months ago.
Eight.
Before Allison even knew he wanted her.
Vivienne’s breath caught painfully.
"He planned it," she whispered.
Anthony looked at her.
"You didn’t know?"
Vivienne ignored him.
Because suddenly she understood something horrifying.
Lucian had not fallen accidentally.
He had chosen Allison slowly.
Deliberately.
Completely.
And Vivienne—
Vivienne had already lost long before Allison realized there was even a competition.
Her phone buzzed violently.
Her assistant.
Vivienne answered instantly.
"What."
"Ma’am... there’s another issue."
Vivienne closed her eyes briefly.
Of course there was.
"What now?"
"The clinic."
Her stomach dropped.
"The clinic records are being independently verified through Swiss authorities."
Anthony looked up sharply.
Vivienne’s grip tightened around the phone.
"How."
"The Calloway legal team requested emergency genetic confirmation authorization."
Anthony’s face changed immediately.
"Oh, that’s bad."
Vivienne looked at him with pure hatred.
"You should leave."
Anthony laughed weakly. "And go where exactly?"
Vivienne didn’t answer.
Because she honestly didn’t care anymore.
All she could see was Allison wearing Lucian’s ring.
⸻
Sharon
Sharon Vale Morrison cried quietly in the guest bathroom.
Not dramatic sobbing.
Not breakdown hysteria.
Just soft, exhausted tears she could no longer hold back.
Because Allison Croft—the woman Sharon helped humiliate, undermine, and betray—
had just married a man who looked at her like she was precious.
And Sharon suddenly understood why she had envied Allison from the beginning.
It was never the money.
Never the beauty.
Never the status.
It was this.
Being loved without begging for it.
Sharon pressed a hand over her mouth and cried harder.
⸻
The Morrisons
Martha Morrison nearly fainted.
Richard Morrison looked ten years older.
The television in the Morrison estate dining room replayed the announcement while lawyers spoke frantically in the background over speakerphone.
Martha gripped the edge of the table.
"She trapped him."
Richard looked at his wife slowly.
"No," he said quietly.
Martha blinked.
Richard’s eyes stayed fixed on the screen where Lucian held Allison close while reporters shouted questions.
"That man looks like he’d burn cities for her."
Martha fell silent.
Because he did.
⸻
Back at the Safe House
The atmosphere shifted after the announcement.
Not calmer.
Sharper.
Focused.
Adrian stood near Elias reviewing Swiss contacts and flight clearance.
Theo leaned over the monitors.
"We found the convoy."
Lucian turned instantly.
"Where?"
Elias pulled up satellite traffic and airport feeds.
"The child never boarded the Switzerland flight."
Allison frowned.
"What?"
Theo smiled darkly.
"Decoy."
Elias nodded. "Vivienne leaked the Swiss route intentionally."
Lucian’s expression hardened.
"She wanted us chasing ghosts."
Adrian crossed his arms.
"Then where is the real location?"
Elias zoomed in further.
A second hidden travel manifest appeared.
Private helicopter.
Unregistered.
Destination:
Nova Scotia.
Everyone went still.
Simone blinked rapidly. "Wait. Canada?"
Theo’s eyes narrowed.
"Island access."
Allison looked at him.
Theo pointed to the map.
"Look."
Small island clusters off the coast.
Private estates.
Restricted access.
Minimal surveillance.
Vivienne wasn’t hiding the child in a city.
She was hiding her somewhere isolated.
Controlled.
Adrian’s voice turned cold.
"She’s buying time."
Lucian grabbed his jacket immediately.
"Then we move now."
Allison stood too.
Lucian looked at her instantly. "You’re staying here."
Allison blinked slowly.
Then smiled dangerously.
"Oh, that’s adorable."
Theo immediately backed away. "Good luck."
Lucian sighed once.
"Allison—"
"No," she interrupted. "I got kidnapped, escaped, punched a socialite, accidentally got married, and helped uncover a six-year conspiracy."
She stepped closer.
"I’m going."
Lucian looked at her for a long moment.
Then glanced at the massive ring on her finger.
His wife.
The realization still hit hard every time.
Allison noticed the look immediately.
"What?"
His voice lowered slightly.
"You called it accidental."
Her pulse betrayed her instantly.
"That was strategic phrasing."
Theo made a gagging sound.
Simone threw a pillow at him.
Then Elias’s screen flashed red.
Everyone snapped toward it.
A new message appeared.
Video upload received.
Unknown sender.
Adrian’s expression sharpened. "Open it."
Elias clicked.
Static filled the screen first.
Then—
A little girl appeared.
Six years old.
Dark curls.
Gray sweater.
Holding the silver crescent charm tightly.
She looked frightened.
Behind the camera, Vivienne’s voice spoke softly.
"Say hello."
The child looked directly into the camera.
Then quietly asked—
"Is he coming for me now?"
The room went dead silent.
Lucian’s face changed instantly.
Not anger.
Not shock.
Something deeper.
Because the child looked directly at the camera again and whispered:
"Mommy said he’s supposed to love me."
