The Billionaire Who Stole His Wife
Chapter 28: The Line We Don’t Cross

The house exhaled them one by one.
Doors clicked shut. Footsteps thinned. Voices dropped to murmurs that dissolved into the kind of quiet that only comes after a storm has been forced to pass through people instead of around them.
Simone disappeared down the hall with a yawn and a pointed, "If anything dramatic happens, text me first so I can fix my hair."
Theo lingered just long enough in the study doorway to look at Lucian—really look—before giving a faint, knowing tilt of his head and slipping out without a word.
Elias followed with his tablet, already murmuring into a call about safe houses and vehicles.
Adrian didn’t leave.
He just changed rooms.
The study door shut behind him with a soft, decisive click.
Waiting.
Allison
The shower should’ve calmed her.
It didn’t.
It slowed things down, sure—the heat easing the tightness in her shoulders, the steady sound of water giving her something to focus on—but her mind kept circling the same things.
Vivienne.
Sharon’s voice on the phone.
Anthony’s threat bleeding through the door.
Lucian—standing too close, speaking too honestly, looking at her like she wasn’t just a situation to manage.
That was the problem.
Not the danger.
Not the chaos.
Him.
Because she didn’t know what to do with something that felt real in the middle of everything that wasn’t.
She turned the water off.
Wrapped herself in a robe, towel-dried her hair just enough to stop it from dripping, and stepped out into the room.
Her reflection looked steady.
But her chest still felt... unsettled.
Like something was coming.
Knock.
She didn’t jump.
Didn’t even hesitate.
She already knew.
Allison crossed the room and opened the door.
⸻
Lucian stood there.
No jacket. Shirt sleeves rolled. Collar open like he’d stopped caring about the details somewhere along the way.
He looked tired.
Not weak—Lucian didn’t do weak.
But like he’d been holding too much control for too long and it was starting to press back.
His eyes lifted to hers.
And stayed.
Not quick.
Not polite.
Just... there.
Taking her in.
Her damp hair. Bare face. The softness she didn’t show anyone else.
He swallowed once, like he hadn’t meant to stare that long.
"...can I come in?" he asked.
Not his usual tone.
Less composed.
More... human.
Allison stepped back.
"Yeah."
⸻
He didn’t walk in like he owned the space.
That was new.
He moved just inside the room and stopped, like he was aware he was in her space now—not his.
The door shut quietly behind him.
They didn’t speak right away.
They didn’t need to.
Everything they hadn’t said yet was already sitting between them.
Allison leaned back against the dresser, arms folding loosely—not defensive, just... grounding.
"You should’ve told me about her," she said.
Lucian didn’t pretend.
"I should have."
That simple.
No excuses.
No spin.
Allison nodded once.
"She walked up to me like she already knew how this was going to go."
"She does that," he said.
"That’s not comforting."
"No," he agreed. "It’s not meant to be."
A small beat of silence.
Allison watched him carefully.
"You knew she’d have something to say about me."
"I knew she’d notice you," he said. "I didn’t expect her to act this fast."
"She didn’t feel fast," Allison said quietly. "She felt prepared."
Lucian’s jaw tightened.
"Then she’s already decided you matter."
Allison gave a small, humorless smile.
"That’s exactly what I didn’t want."
Lucian stepped a little closer.
Not enough to crowd her.
Just enough to make the space feel... intentional.
"She doesn’t get to decide what you are in this," he said.
Allison tilted her head.
"And what am I in this?"
There it was.
Not about Vivienne.
Not about Anthony.
About them.
Lucian didn’t answer immediately.
And that—more than anything—told her this mattered.
Because Lucian always had an answer.
Now he was choosing one.
Carefully.
"You’re not temporary," he said finally.
Allison blinked.
"That wasn’t the question."
"I know."
"Then answer the one I asked."
Lucian exhaled, slower this time.
Like he was giving something up.
"I don’t have a clean answer," he admitted.
That surprised her.
"You don’t do messy."
"No," he said. "But this isn’t clean."
A beat.
Then—
"I know I don’t want you walking out of here thinking this was just... convenient."
Allison’s chest tightened a little.
"Lucian, this is convenient," she said. "Timing, circumstances—"
"No," he cut in, quiet but firm. "It isn’t."
She frowned.
"It looks like it."
"It looks like that because everything around it is chaos," he said. "That doesn’t make this part fake."
A pause.
He took another step closer.
Now they were close enough that she could feel the warmth coming off him.
Not touching.
But close.
"I don’t do this," he said.
"Do what?"
"Care this quickly," he said plainly. "Get... distracted like this. It’s not how I operate."
"And yet here you are."
"And yet here I am."
No hesitation.
That steadiness—God, that steadiness—made her pulse pick up.
Allison shook her head slightly.
"You don’t even know me like that."
Lucian’s gaze softened just a fraction.
"I know enough."
"That’s not how this works."
"It is for me."
She let out a small breath, half frustrated, half something else.
"You’re too sure."
"I’m not sure," he said.
That stopped her.
Because that was new.
Lucian, unsure.
"I’m just not pretending I don’t feel it," he added.
The room went quiet again.
Different this time.
He held her gaze.
"I like you," he said.
Not dressed up.
Not strategic.
Just honest.
Allison’s throat tightened.
"You barely—"
"I know," he said. "And I still do."
She looked away for a second, collecting herself.
Because that—
That was the problem.
Not that she didn’t believe him.
But that she did.
"And what happens when this gets worse?" she asked quietly. "When Vivienne escalates, when Anthony does something stupid, when my father starts treating this like war?"
Lucian didn’t move.
"I don’t step back."
"That’s easy to say now."
"It’s not easy," he said. "It’s just clear."
She looked back at him.
"And if I become the complication?"
"You already are."
A beat.
"That’s not a bad thing."
Her lips pressed together.
"You’re used to control."
"Yes."
"And I don’t fit into that."
"No," he said. "You don’t."
Another pause.
Then he added, softer—
"And I don’t want you to."
That hit harder than anything else he’d said.
Because that meant—
He wasn’t trying to shape her into something manageable.
He was choosing the complication.
On purpose.
Allison stepped closer.
Without thinking.
Without planning.
Her voice dropped.
"You don’t get to regret that later."
Lucian’s gaze didn’t waver.
"I won’t."
"You don’t know that."
"I know how I make decisions," he said. "And I’m making this one with everything I know right now."
A beat.
Then, quieter—
"I don’t want you thinking I’ll wake up tomorrow and decide this was a mistake."
Her chest tightened.
Because that was exactly what she was afraid of.
"What if I’m the one who leaves?" she asked.
There it was.
His fear.
She saw it the second it hit.
Fast.
Sharp.
Gone just as quickly.
But she caught it.
Lucian let out a slow breath.
"Then you leave," he said.
Simple.
But not easy.
"And you’re just okay with that?"
"No," he said honestly. "I won’t like it."
A small pause.
Then—
"But I won’t try to hold you somewhere you don’t want to be."
That—
That was trust.
Real trust.
Not possession.
Not control.
Choice.
Allison’s voice softened.
"That’s not what I’m used to."
"I figured."
She let out a quiet breath.
"I’ve been in something that looked stable before," she said. "And it wasn’t. It was built on lies. And I didn’t see it until it was too late."
Lucian listened.
Didn’t interrupt.
Didn’t fix it.
Just... heard her.
"I’m not doing that again," she said.
"You shouldn’t," he replied.
A beat.
Then—
"I’m not him."
She looked at him.
"I know."
"And I’m not asking you to trust me blindly."
"Good."
"I’m asking you to pay attention to how I move," he said. "And decide from there."
That felt—
Right.
Grounded.
Real.
Allison stepped even closer now.
Close enough that her hand could reach him without thinking.
And it did.
Resting lightly against his chest.
His heartbeat was steady.
But faster than usual.
"You’re nervous," she said quietly.
Lucian huffed a small breath.
"I’m aware."
She smiled just slightly.
"That’s new."
"Very."
A pause.
Then—
"Stay," he said.
Not a command.
Not pressure.
Just... a request.
Simple.
Honest.
Allison’s breath caught.
Because that was the real ask.
Not control.
Not commitment.
Just—
Stay.
For now.
With him.
She didn’t answer with words.
She stepped in.
Closed the space.
And kissed him.
But then he pulled back too abruptly, and his hand dropped to her waist, gripping her hard.
"Allison," he breathed, his voice thick. "I want you."
Her heart skipped. "Lucian—"
He didn’t wait for permission.
Lucian stepped closer and backed her up against the wall behind the bed, trapping her there with his body.
The impact sent a jolt through her, and before she could fully process what was happening, his mouth was on hers again—hard and hungry and desperate.
His free hand left her waist and roamed upward, sliding over her stomach and up her ribs, his palm rough and heated as it moved over her body. He cupped her breast, squeezing gently, his thumb brushing over her nipple through the silk of her robe, sending shockwaves of heat straight to her core.
Allison melted against him, her head falling back against the wall.
His hand moved lower, tracing the edge of her robe, fingers dipping under the fabric.
He brushed her clit with a teasing finger, and her breath hitched.
"You’re so wet for me," he whispered against her lips, his voice rough with need.
Allison gasped, her hands gripping his shoulders. "Lucian—"
"You like that?" he asked, his fingers pressing harder against her, circling that sensitive spot.
She nodded frantically, unable to speak.
His fingers moved faster, stroking her with maddening precision, and she felt herself spiraling higher, closer to the edge.
"Oh God," she moaned.
He groaned, leaning in to kiss her again, his hand continuing its ministrations.
Allison was losing her shit.
She couldn’t think, couldn’t breathe, just felt the overwhelming pleasure building in her core, flooding through her veins.
Lucian’s control was fraying.
His breathing was ragged against her ear, his hand moving with frantic urgency, and she could feel how hard he was pressed against her thigh.
She wanted more.
She wanted everything.
"Please," she gasped, clutching at his shirt.
Lucian growled.
He pulled his hand away from her, and Allison made a soft, disappointed sound.
But then he dropped to his knees in front of her.
Allison blinked, staring down at him in shock.
Lucian looked up at her, his eyes dark with lust, and parted her robe, spreading her legs slightly.
He buried his face between her thighs.
Allison cried out as his tongue touched her, and her back arched off the wall.
He ate her out with skill and hunger, his tongue moving over her with devastating precision, his fingers gripping her hips to keep her still as she bucked against him.
She was losing her mind.
It was too much.
Too good.
Her hands tangled in his hair, holding him there as he worshipped her, and she could hear her own moans echoing in the room.
Lucian’s tongue was everywhere—teasing, tasting, demanding, and she felt herself cresting, the waves of pleasure crashing over her.
"Oh God, oh God, oh God," she chanted, her body shaking.
He didn’t let up, not until she was crying out his name, her body shuddering through a powerful orgasm.
When it finally broke, Lucian pulled back, licking his lips, and Allison collapsed against the wall, breathless and spent.
He looked up at her and stepped away. Guilt flashing in his eyes.
"Sorry" he said as he turned and walked out the room
