The Bigshot Married Himself to the Heiress

Chapter 1377 - 1317: The Passing of the Harris Family Patriarch

  • Next Chapter

Sienna Johnson went to pick up Curly from school, only to find out that Curly and George had gone home early.

Seeing that the other children hadn’t left early, Sienna asked the teacher why Curly was let out early. The teacher only said there was a family issue, but didn’t know what it was.

Upon returning home, Sienna discovered that it was George’s grandfather who had passed away.

Adrian Desmond was busy helping George with the old man’s funeral arrangements, while Owen Hunter and Aria Harris were on their way.

"How could this happen so suddenly?" Sienna asked Adrian.

Just a few days ago, she had heard the old man singing "The Ruse of the Empty City" vigorously in the courtyard and now he was gone so unexpectedly.

"He was old and had surgery before..." Adrian explained, "But he passed away in his sleep, which is peaceful."

"Ah..." Sienna sighed and couldn’t help but think of her late grandmother, feeling a wave of sadness in her heart.

Hearing her sigh, Adrian embraced her without saying much, just gently patting her shoulder.

"Is there anything I need to do?" Sienna asked.

"The old man was from Sileria City, so the funeral needs to follow local customs. You should find someone who understands to help out."

The wedding and funeral procedures in Sileria City are quite elaborate, and since Adrian, being from Abyanabad, wasn’t very familiar with them, they needed someone specialized to handle the arrangements.

"When will Aria Harris arrive?"

For the funeral, relatives and friends needed to be notified. Sienna wasn’t familiar with the Harris Family’s relatives, so these details would have to wait until Aria returned to finalize.

"She’ll arrive around 8 PM."

"The Funeral Company we used for my grandmother’s funeral was pretty good. I’ll give them a call to come over and help," Sienna suggested.

"Okay."

There were many tasks to handle, so the two decided to split up.

...

The Funeral Company’s staff were efficient, arriving within half an hour after a quick briefing of the situation.

Finn asked, "Mrs. Desmond, I would like to know approximately how many people will attend the old man’s funeral?"

Sienna said to Finn, "I’m not sure how many relatives and friends the Harris Family has, but the daughter of the deceased is on her way. We’ll decide once she arrives."

Finn, the head of the funeral services company, was called by Sienna for her grandmother’s passing, and he was known for being diligent and responsible.

"Alright, I’ll go handle other things." Finn said with a stern face.

Given the nature of the funeral industry, Finn always maintained a serious expression, as smiling in such situations could lead to complaints from the family.

"Thank you very much."

...

By 8 PM, Aria Harris and Owen Hunter finally arrived. Aria’s eyes were red from crying.

Because of the children, Aria and Sienna had been distant. Sienna simply offered a few words of consolation and said no more.

Owen, comforting his crying wife, said, "Thank you both."

Upon arriving, they saw the uniformed staff busy at work, clearly indicating that Adrian and the others had prepared everything in advance for them.

Adrian replied, "You’re welcome."

"I’ll take Aria to see the old man first. We can talk later," Owen said.

"Alright."

Owen took Aria to the mourning hall to pay respects to the old man.

With Owen and the funeral company staff present, there were enough people for the funeral. Sienna left Adrian to help and returned to the Johnson Family to check on the children.

Sally accompanied Sienna back. At the doorstep, Sienna noticed the sign above the door reading "Flower and Fruit Mountain" and frowned.

"Have someone take down this sign for me," Sienna instructed.

Sally mentioned, "Curly named this place. If Curly finds out, he probably won’t agree."

"Take it down!" Sienna insisted firmly.

"Yes!"

Sally went ahead and took the sign down by herself without asking for help.

"Put it away for now, and once the funeral is over, we can hang it back up."

"Yes, madam."

Earlier, Owen hadn’t implied wishing to hold the funeral at the old man’s house. Conducting a funeral here with the "Flower and Fruit Mountain" sign would be absurd.

Back at the Johnson Family, the servant mentioned that the children were all at Paige’s place, so Sienna headed straight there.

Upon seeing Sienna, Paige asked, "I heard that George’s grandfather passed away. How are things over there?"

"Owen and Aria have arrived, and your brother is there helping out. I didn’t have much to do, so I came over," Sienna replied.

...

"You know, Aria doesn’t quite like me," Sienna joked.

A thick carpet was spread on the floor, and the twins, along with Ella, sat on it. Hugo was restless, crawling here and there, while Claire and Ella lay still, babbling as if chatting.

Sienna playfully teased her daughter, asking, "Do you feel better today?"

"Much better. I think I’ll be able to walk around in a couple of days."

Under the care of the Johnson Family, Paige was recovering quickly, mainly because she was in good spirits, which is half the recovery for a patient.

Sienna cautioned, "Don’t rush. Rest more, and besides, the weather outside is too cold for a walk."

"It’s almost Lunar New Year, isn’t it?" Paige suddenly asked.

"Yes, just about half a month away." Sienna sighed, "The years are passing by so quickly..." She looked at her children, realizing she was now a mother of four.

...

"This year your brother wants to set off fireworks. They probably won’t allow it in the City Center, so we’ll go to Cloudscape Mansion to do it. You and the children should join us," Sienna invited.

Paige smiled, "Hmm. When I was in Abyanabad, I regretted not being able to watch fireworks with you. This time, it’s a blessing in disguise."

Hearing this, Sienna felt pained. Paige had a scar over ten centimeters long, and being prone to scarring, surgeries couldn’t remove it, leaving it as a lifelong mark on her body.

"Paige, is it really not possible between you and Kiya?"

This time, since Paige returned, Kiya hadn’t called or sent any messages... Kiya’s behavior seemed as though he intended to break up with Paige completely.

Sienna felt deeply disappointed with Kiya. Paige had been gravely injured, mainly because of his mother, yet Kiya didn’t offer any explanation to Paige.

Paige said nothing, her gaze wandering as she watched Claire and Ella.

After a while, Paige suddenly said, "Aria doesn’t like Curly. When Curly grows up, he shouldn’t be with George.

There’s no need for the Desmond Family’s girls to endure such grievances."
