The Bigshot Married Himself to the Heiress

Chapter 1188 - 1128: Returning to the Briggs Family for Reinforcements

"Adrian’s still sick right now, and I’m pregnant with twins. I not only have to worry about the Eastminster Group’s business, I’m also managing Adrian’s business over in Abyanabad... Where would I find the time to go make trouble for Ivy? I can barely keep myself together."

"..."

"I don’t even know who’s spreading nonsense, but the Jones Family actually started suspecting me, saying I’m the one who made Ivy Evans end up like this."

"..."

Sienna Johnson looked completely innocent as she said, "I’m not even close with Ivy Evans, we’ve only met a few times. I don’t even know why I would want to harm her.

Do I look that idle to you?"

Annan Briggs knew the whole messy story inside out. He’d been silent, but finally said, "I’ve heard about Ivy’s situation from Lucy. That girl’s behavior is improper; she did things that disgraced her family’s reputation. Now she’s got some weird illness, even her own father..."

Pauline Briggs put on a naïve expression and asked, "What did Ivy Evans do to her own father? Brother, why aren’t you talking—what happened?"

"Anyway, she’s shameless!" It was the kind of thing Annan Briggs couldn’t bring himself to spell out.

"Shameless? How shameless?"

Pauline came back home sobbing and set all the Briggs women on edge. As a younger sister-in-law, Pauline held a very high position in the Briggs Family; once she cried, clouds gathered over the entire house.

Lucy Briggs and her mother, Rebecca, along with Second Aunt Fraidy Young, were listening outside the study. Lucy had always been at odds with Madison Jones; when she heard her father hint at Ivy’s situation and how hard it was to say outright, she couldn’t help herself—she pushed the door open and walked in.

Lucy said, "...Grandpa, Grandma, I know what happened. Edward and I came back to the Briggs Family this time because of Ivy Evans."

Because they had a grudge, when Lucy talked about Ivy, she didn’t sugarcoat a thing. She said whatever came to mind, and by the time she was done, everyone in the Briggs Family had a stormy face.

Seeing her Sister-in-law’s expression, Fraidy Young could tell she definitely knew everything. "Sister-in-law, is what Lucy said true?"

Rebecca nodded. Fraidy clicked her tongue, "Heh, the Gu Family really is full of surprises."

Rebecca said, "Sigh, I never imagined something like this could happen.

Anyway, the Gu Family is still Lucy’s in-laws. We were thinking of saving them some face, so we’ve been covering up that scandal. Who knew Madison Jones would come looking for Sienna’s trouble instead."

"..."

"You have no idea—this Ivy Evans set her sights on Adrian. She even dragged Violet along and kept running over to the Johnson Family.

When I think about it now I still get scared. Imagine if that woman really got her way and managed to seduce Adrian—wouldn’t my in-laws eat me alive?"

Fraidy Young let out a few cold laughs. "Her? She walks around acting like she’s some phoenix, but she’s just a hill chicken. Look at our Sienna’s looks—if Adrian isn’t blind, he’d never go for Ivy Evans."

"Sure, that’s how it should be, but men are always eating from the bowl while eyeing the pot. I was really afraid Ivy would succeed. My in-laws dote on their little sister; if Ivy actually stole Sienna’s man, and little sis came over here crying like this, what would happen to our Lucy?"

In the study, Grandpa Briggs lost his temper. "Boss, get Mr. Jones out to meet me. I want to see him! Does he think the Briggs Family has no one? He actually dares to bully our people?"

Annan Briggs originally didn’t want to get involved in Ivy’s mess, but once it affected Pauline and Sienna, he couldn’t just sit back and watch.

Sienna said, "Grandpa, Grandma, Uncle, I really didn’t know Ivy Evans liked Adrian. She’s been bringing Violet over to the Johnson Family a lot recently, and I just thought it was normal visiting between relatives, so I didn’t think much of it... I never imagined..."

Just thinking about how Ivy had used her daughter like a weapon made Lucy grind her teeth. "Our girl is such a little fool, completely played around by that Ivy Evans. She used Violet’s relationship with Sienna to get into the Johnson Family, just to get close to Adrian..."

"..."

"Grandpa, the more I think about it the more scared I get. Imagine if that cheap little brat Ivy had really leveraged Violet’s ties with the Johnsons and actually gotten her way—what would happen to our Violet then? How would I ever have the face to go to my sister-in-law’s house again? Could Sienna and I still be cousins like before?"

Grandma Briggs was grinding her teeth too. Her daughter was a woman alone with kids to raise; it hadn’t been easy for her to finally have a man who could stand up for the household. And then what? Some cheap little brat from the relatives actually wanted to steal him away.

If Adrian really did get seduced off by Ivy, Sienna would be stuck raising four kids alone; never mind the hardship—people would laugh her to death.

"Old man, you’ve seen it yourself. You know exactly what the Johnson Family is going through right now. The Jones Family is basically trying to force my daughter and grandkids to their deaths." Grandma Briggs started crying too.

Once Grandma cried, that was no small matter.

"Boss, go invite Mr. Jones over!" Grandpa Briggs told his eldest son.

"I’ll go right now!"

With the Briggs Family willing to step in, Sienna finally let out a breath. The Jones Family are officials; Sienna had no confidence she could win against them on her own, especially now with the Johnson Family beset by both internal and external trouble. But with the Briggs Family backing her, it was a whole different story.

...

At noon, the Briggs Family kept her for lunch, and Sienna stayed. After all, things hadn’t been fully resolved yet.

Once Grandpa Jones arrived, Sienna still had another card up her sleeve waiting for him.

The Briggs women kept piling food into Sienna’s bowl, urging her to eat more.

"Just look at you. You’re carrying two, yet your arms and legs are still this skinny?" Rebecca said with distress.

Pauline said, "Sister-in-law, in families like ours, what woman doesn’t rest quietly at home when she’s pregnant? When has our Sienna ever had that kind of luck?

She has to worry about business, she has to worry about the household... tell me, how can Sienna’s life be this hard?"

"..."

"Mom, didn’t you say good people get good rewards?

What did our Sienna ever do wrong? Her life was bitter from the start. She’s obviously the Johnson Family’s Miss, yet she grew up in an Orphanage. Now that she’s grown, she still has to fight in the business world like a man..." Pauline spoke up for her niece.

Sienna laughed and said, "Mom, I’m doing fine. Don’t make me sound so pitiful—I’m not that pitiful. Look, if someone bullies me, I’ve still got my mother’s side of the family to back me up."

Grandma Briggs promised, "Don’t you worry, the Briggs Family will never let you be bullied."

The Briggs women chimed in, "That’s right. They actually dared bully us, the Briggs Family beauties!"

Fraidy Young said, "There isn’t a clean one among officials. If that old man Jones doesn’t give us an explanation today, I’ll go back to my own family and have my people dig into the Jones Family. I don’t believe they’re spotless..."

Having people firmly at her back felt really good. Sienna’s heart felt warm, and she sincerely thanked them, "Thank you, Grandma. Thank you, Aunt. Thank you, Second Aunt. And thank you too, Cousin."
