The Apocalypse Took Everything, This Time I Hoard It All First
Chapter 177: Fourth-tier Spiritual Body
Chapter 177: Chapter 177: Fourth-tier Spiritual Body
Although the troops on this mission were mostly ordinary soldiers, their physical stamina and combat skills far exceeded those of the average person. They wielded their military combat knives with immense power—with every SWOOSH and SLASH, zombies were chopped to the ground.
In an instant, the area around the perimeter wall became a dazzling display of colors, as the glowing lights of various superpowers intertwined and flashed.
After Luna Dawson and her group returned, the large-scale superpower damage they unleashed left the nearby Superpower Users utterly dumbfounded.
They had just finished dealing with a Tier Four Zombie, yet their superpowers were still fully charged! Furthermore, the range and lethality of their superpowers were almost double those of other Third-tier Superpower Users!
"Are they really only Third Rank?"
"Why does it feel like their superpowers will never run out!"
"They’re too fierce!"
"The Sunset Squad is full of maniacs!"
Discussions rose and fell continuously.
Among the zombies surging from the urban area, Third-tier Zombies were already few and far between. They were practically instakilled the moment they showed their heads. The remaining low-level zombies were completely crushed under everyone’s combined attacks.
However, Luna Dawson soon noticed something was wrong. Not only were the zombies coming from the city center not decreasing, but their numbers were actually increasing. The people fighting alongside them were also gradually showing signs of exhaustion.
The zombie horde had only numbered around ten thousand just now. Logically speaking, after fighting for this long, their numbers should have been halved. How could there be more of them the more they killed?
"Francis Grant, the number of zombies isn’t right!" Luna Dawson immediately pressed her earpiece to call him. "The thermal weapons have all stopped, so why is there still an endless stream of zombies surging over? It seems like something is controlling them!"
Currently standing on the roof of an off-road vehicle, Francis Grant furrowed his brows tightly.
With their numbers, wiping out ten thousand zombies should have been finished within half an hour, but the size of the horde before their eyes was indeed continuously growing.
"I noticed that just now as well. I’ve already had two Third-tier Spiritual Ability Users scout the area, but they haven’t found anything yet." Francis Grant’s voice was calm and steady.
Luna Dawson immediately stopped her attacks and concentrated her spirit to detect the surrounding situation.
She could clearly perceive two fluctuations of spiritual power coming from the sides and the front of the team, respectively. They were likely those two Spiritual Ability Users. Aside from that, she didn’t find any other anomalies in the zombie horde.
But right at that moment, a sudden stabbing pain pierced her brain. It wasn’t severe, but it was enough to disrupt her thoughts.
The minds of zombies were inherently blurry and their willpower was weak, far less active than a normal human brain.
Luna Dawson even vaguely felt that, with her current strength, if she went all out, she might be able to fight a Tier Four Zombie head-on!
On the other side, Rollo hadn’t sensed any anomalies either. He was still happily slaughtering his way through the horde alongside Little Tiger.
Luna Dawson’s heart sank as she instantly figured out the crux of the matter. It was a Tier Four Spiritual Body zombie!
This Spiritual Body zombie was extremely cunning. It didn’t dare to rush to the perimeter wall to throw its life away. Instead, it sent low-level zombies to continuously swarm over, depleting their stamina and superpowers. It clearly wanted to wear them down to death!
Just as one wave of the horde was cleared out, a new wave immediately filled the gap.
Zombies did not know fatigue, but they were all flesh-and-blood humans. No matter how formidable they were, they still needed to eat and rest. Their superpowers and ammunition would eventually run out!
They had to take down this Spiritual Body zombie as soon as possible and cut off the source of the zombies. Otherwise, none of them would be able to afford this war of attrition!
Luna Dawson immediately used the earpiece to inform Francis Grant and the rest of the team about her deduction. After pondering for a moment, she stopped Little Sweet Potato, who was resting on her shoulder, and leaned in to whisper a few words into its ear.
Little Sweet Potato’s leaves bobbed up and down like it was nodding. It had clearly understood the plan.
With the plan set, Little Sweet Potato abruptly darted toward the most densely packed area of the zombie horde.
Although Luna Dawson wanted to charge out of the perimeter wall and directly hunt down that Tier Four Zombie, she had just promised Francis Grant that she wouldn’t run off on her own.
Nearby, Kyle Keith’s gaze fell upon the Sunset Squad next door, whose superpower output far exceeded that of ordinary people. His eyes then shifted to Luna Dawson, a flickering light flashing in the depths of his gaze.
At this moment, that Tier Four Spiritual Body zombie was entirely focused on controlling the low-level zombies, wearing down the combat strength of the "food" ahead.
Suddenly, it detected a Fourth Rank plant, carrying the scent of sweet and fragrant fruit, swaying as it approached its position.
It immediately emitted an intense burst of spiritual power to launch an attack. Little Sweet Potato had just drank a bottle of Crystal Core Solution before setting out. Although the impact of this spiritual power caused it a wave of stabbing pain, it was still able to barely endure it.
Little Sweet Potato no longer hesitated. It killed zombies along the way as it charged straight toward the various densely packed clusters of zombies.
Left with no other choice, the Spiritual Body zombie had to temporarily relax its guidance over the zombies coming from the downtown direction.
Instantly, the number of surging zombies decreased significantly.
Seeing this plant launching indiscriminate attacks within the horde, the Spiritual Body zombie realized its position would be exposed sooner or later if this continued. It had no choice but to scurry out of its hiding spot and begin shifting positions to avoid Little Sweet Potato.
Luna Dawson kept her eyes glued to Little Sweet Potato’s movements. She watched as it darted back and forth through the horde, throwing the originally orderly throng into utter chaos. The superpowers of countless zombies poured toward Little Sweet Potato.
Finally, she caught sight of an anomalous figure.
It was an extremely inconspicuous child zombie. Its entire body was a livid blue-black, and there were no obvious bloodstains on it, save for a small bite mark on its left cheek.
It observed its surroundings as it moved, its behavior completely out of sync with the surrounding horde.
Along the way, it deliberately dodged Little Sweet Potato, relentlessly weaving into the densest crowds of zombies.
"Kevin Keane, Blake Blue, Brother Evan, Lynn Shelby!"
Luna Dawson immediately pressed her earpiece. The others instantly understood and simultaneously launched their attacks at that child zombie wearing a black hoodie.
But to everyone’s shock, their attacks didn’t manage to gain the slightest advantage. The child zombie’s responses were unhurried and effortlessly adept.
The surrounding people quickly noticed this scene as well. The sheer destructive power of the Sunset Squad members was obvious to all. If even they couldn’t break through its defenses, this little zombie’s rank was absolutely extraordinary!
As the Spiritual Body zombie became distracted with fending off the attacks, the surrounding zombies no longer attacked in the orderly fashion they had before. The number of zombies surging from afar also dwindled. The already exhausted crowd finally breathed a secret sigh of relief.
With the interference of Kevin Keane, Blake Blue, and the others’ attacks, combined with Little Sweet Potato’s continuous threat, the pressure on that Spiritual Body zombie sharply increased.
Luna Dawson concentrated her focus and breath, manipulating her spiritual threads to ruthlessly bore into the mind of that child zombie!
The child zombie clearly hadn’t expected its disguise to be seen through. It abruptly turned its head, its murky eyes locking fiercely onto Luna Dawson.
At this moment, Luna Dawson was standing motionless on the steps woven by Purple Bean. To onlookers, she appeared to have suddenly zoned out.
Only she knew that she was making a massive gamble.
She was gambling that her spiritual threads could injure the opponent, and she was gambling that the thread barrier she had condensed would be enough to withstand the opponent’s spiritual attack!
She could easily take her family and flee at any time, but the majority of the people here would be worn to death by this Spiritual Body zombie if she did!
This Tier Four Spiritual Body zombie was naturally no pushover. Waves of formidable spiritual pressure surged directly toward Luna Dawson like a tidal wave.
Luna Dawson subconsciously condensed a portion of her spiritual threads into a barrier, tightly wrapping herself within it.
This was her first time using the thread barrier in actual combat. She could clearly feel the barrier tottering under the impact of the opponent’s spiritual power, liable to shatter at any moment.
She gritted her teeth, giving it her all to maintain the stability of the barrier.
