The Apocalypse Took Everything, This Time I Hoard It All First
Chapter 167: A Little Lesson
Chapter 167: Chapter 167: A Little Lesson
Luna Dawson and her companion returned to the front of their RV, directly taking out the villa from her spatial storage. The two-story villa had eight rooms, meaning they could easily sleep two to a room.
In the negative thirty-degree weather, Luna had suffered enough hardships throughout the day; there was no way she would let the elderly and children in her family suffer along with her at night.
The surrounding people had watched the Sunset Squad’s monstrous vines during the day, then saw flying dogs, and now witnessed a massive villa appearing out of thin air. They were completely numb. They wondered if this family had come out for a vacation, for goodness’ sake!
As soon as the villa appeared, the family members in the two vehicles didn’t even need to be called over. They simply got out of the cars one after another and headed inside.
Seeing that most of her family had come in, Luna swiftly pulled out a large dining table and prepared to serve dinner.
"Sis, wait a minute. Brother Leo isn’t back yet," Miles Dawson reminded her the moment he sat down.
"Where did he go?" Luna asked in confusion.
Blake Blue smiled and explained, "Shane Shaw and Nancy Sullivan are on the military truck up ahead. Not long after the two of you left, he stretched his legs and immediately sprinted off to find them."
"Oh, playing matchmaker for me, huh."
Luna had barely finished speaking when Mrs. Dawson pinched her mouth shut. "What matchmaker? A proper young lady shouldn’t be spouting nonsense all day!"
Kevin Keane found this action incredibly familiar. It turned out to be an ancestral tradition of the Dawson Family.
Forced to mute herself, Luna protested inarticulately, "Mom! I’m the captain!"
She wondered if her dignity meant nothing at all.
Mrs. Dawson released her hand with an amused smile. "Let’s see if you dare speak nonsense again."
Evan Olson looked quite helpless. "Luna, we’re about to eat. Shouldn’t we invite Kyle Keith? After all, he just invited us to a meal earlier, and he’s been constantly checking up on us along the way."
Luna stared speechlessly toward Kyle Keith’s military tent, then glanced at Francis Grant’s position at the front of the convoy. She felt a guilty conscience, wondering why it felt like she was a villain with a foot in two camps.
"Evan, you should be asking if it’s bad not to invite Kyle Keith, and if we invite him but not Francis Grant, wouldn’t that also be bad? But if we invite them both together, wouldn’t that be even worse?" Lynn Shelby pointed out sharply.
Good grief, if they were all mixed together for a meal, both sides would probably think it was a deadly dinner trap set up by the other party in cahoots with Luna!
"Who cares if it’s bad for them, as long as it’s good for us."
Kevin Keane was entirely fearless; he thought it would be best if they all died.
The group fell silent. Their silence was deafening.
A short while later, Tina’s excited panting could be heard. Rollo dashed out with a SWISH. The two adorable dogs bounced and rolled together. Luna’s maternal heart melted instantly; her precious dogs were truly the cutest, without a single worry in their little heads.
Meanwhile, over on Kyle Keith’s side, Brandon Bell, the Space Superpower User in their squad, was pulling things out with a heavy CLATTER. Over half of the thirty-person team was busy setting up tents. After all, he only had a Second Order Space, so he couldn’t just stuff massive items inside like Luna could.
Susan Vaughn was grinding her teeth in anger. The moment she boarded the vehicle early that morning, she had spotted that Marauder RV and realized it belonged to the squad she had failed to recruit. When she heard from Kyle Keith that this was the Sunset Squad, currently ranked first in strength at the base, she was driven mad with jealousy.
Putting on a frail and helpless facade, she sauntered over to Kyle Keith. "Captain Kessler, look at that Sunset Squad. They’re making a bigger scene than we are. They don’t respect you at all."
Vanessa Stone was originally somewhat annoyed with Luna. Ever since Luna appeared, one out of every ten sentences from Kyle Keith was about the Sunset Squad. However, looking at the equally annoying Fly Vaughn now, she suddenly found Luna to be much more pleasing to the eye. At the very least, she didn’t cling to Kyle Keith’s side all day.
"If you had those resources, you’d be much more showy than anyone else," Wendy Stone spoke up passive-aggressively. This wretched woman had been bragging everywhere just for joining the Endless Squad. She didn’t know what Kyle Keith saw in her pathetic Water Ability—she did nothing but dispense a bit of water every day.
"Captain Kessler, look at that Luna. She even brought a dog and a cat on a mission! People can barely survive, yet she’s keeping pets!" Susan Vaughn continued her sarcastic tone, her voice rising several pitches.
Wendy Stone couldn’t stand her pretentious act. "Tsk, their dogs are mutated animals, not pets."
"Susan, lower your voice," Kyle Keith, always wearing his usual gentle smile, spoke up to remind her.
Susan Vaughn pouted pitifully. "But... I just feel bad for you. While others get to stay in a villa, you have to sleep in a tent."
Luna walked over, holding Little Tiger in her arms. "So what if I live in a villa? Even if I lived on Kyle Keith’s face, it still wouldn’t be your place to point fingers."
Seeing Luna walk over alone, Kyle Keith found her words secretly amusing and asked gently, "Captain Dawson, what brings you here?"
Luna responded with a smile, her voice soft. "We’re getting ready to eat. I wanted to ask if Captain Kessler would like to join us?"
Hearing this, Kyle Keith pondered for a moment, clear gratitude showing in his beautiful eyes. "Thank you, Captain Dawson, but I’d rather not disturb everyone. Since we’re out on a mission, we’ll eat whatever the officials have prepared."
"Alright then. Captain Kessler is always too polite." Luna shrugged, her hand continuing to gently stroke Little Tiger.
"Captain Dawson, it’s one thing that your dogs have some use, but bringing this useless cat? Everyone is out on this mission for the sake of the survivors. Aren’t you being far too irresponsible?!"
The moment Luna finished speaking, Susan Vaughn’s shrill voice followed closely. Not only did she fail to hold back, but her tone was laden with deliberate provocation.
As soon as the words fell, a dark shadow flashed abruptly before everyone’s eyes, so fast that its trajectory was nearly impossible to track.
"Ah!"
A bloodcurdling scream instantly tore through the air. Susan Vaughn clutched her bleeding mouth, her body falling backward uncontrollably as she crashed heavily onto the freezing ground, her eyes filled with terror.
Seeing this, Kyle Keith sighed with utmost helplessness and shot a glance at Vanessa Stone.
Vanessa Stone curled her lips, crouching down with a reluctant expression to heal the downed Susan Vaughn.
Back in Luna’s arms, Little Tiger was still completely puffed up. Every hair on its body stood on end as it arched its back and growled low at Susan Vaughn on the ground. "ROAR... MEOW-ROAR... MEOW!" Its roars were brimming with intimidation.
A second later, it leaped lightly from Luna’s arms to the ground. The moment it landed, its body abruptly expanded, growing to the size of a fully grown tiger in the blink of an eye. Exhaling white mist from its jaws, it slowly paced around Luna’s feet, its gaze deadly locked onto Susan Vaughn.
Luna put on an exaggerated display of panic and explained, "Oh my, oh my! I forgot to tell you, this cat is our family’s little darling, and its temper is exceptionally bad."
Susan Vaughn curled up into a ball on the ground, shivering as she hid behind Kyle Keith. Rolling her eyes, Vanessa Stone was forced to follow her movements to slowly administer healing.
Behind them, the members of the Endless Squad noticed the commotion immediately. They were about to rush forward to protect Kyle Keith, but he raised a hand, stopping them firmly.
He looked down at Susan Vaughn from above, his tone remaining gentle. "I told you to lower your voice."
"Captain... Captain Kessler, I was wrong..."
Susan Vaughn met Kyle Keith’s gaze. His eyes seemed as gentle as ever, but a sudden chill shot up from her tailbone to her scalp, freezing her entire body stiff. She instantly recalled Ken Vance’s fate, and only then did she belatedly realize that her voice earlier had indeed been far too loud.
