The Apocalypse Took Everything, This Time I Hoard It All First

Chapter 166: Stationed

Chapter 166: Chapter 166: Stationed

The vehicles driving ahead and behind the Marauder rocked slightly as countless vines flailed wildly from it. Everyone had been quite bored on the journey, so their attention frequently drifted toward the Crystal Cores being reeled in by those vines. After all, the brilliant gleam of the cores in the sunlight practically blinded the jealous and greedy onlookers.

"Brother Chuck, is that the wood superpower of the old man and the child?" Vanessa Stone stared in shock at the pale purple vines in the rearview mirror.

"Captain, I can’t detect their situation!"

Clayton Churchill’s face was full of disbelief. Ever since he awakened his Spiritual Ability, his perception had never been blocked like this. At this moment, his expression was so dark it looked like a brewing storm.

Kyle Keith frowned. "Are you saying even you can’t detect them?"

"I can’t sense how many people or what animals are in that vehicle. Within the range of my spiritual power, it’s as if they’ve completely vanished."

As Clayton spoke, a cold sweat broke out on his back. He finally understood why the captain had placed so much importance on the Sunset Squad the other day.

Kyle was secretly alarmed, though his usual gentle expression remained unchanged.

He wondered if they were hiding another dual-element Superpower User. Moreover, this person’s rank was actually higher than Clayton’s!

Aside from the Sunset Squad, the only Third Rank users on this mission were himself, Francis Grant, Clayton Churchill, Skylar Quinn, Dylan DuPont, Hank Holt, and Sebastian Spencer. Skylar had only just managed to break through to the Third Rank yesterday; otherwise, the Quinn Family would never have felt at ease letting her tag along with Francis.

Kyle couldn’t help but smirk. His interest in the Sunset Squad was growing by the minute.

The convoy drove for seven or eight hours starting from the morning, only finding a scorched, open area to set up camp when the sky began to darken.

Once the entire convoy came to a halt, everyone breathed a sigh of relief. The radios in every vehicle received the notice for everyone to disembark, stretch their legs, and set up camp.

Luna Dawson felt like her butt had been jolted into four separate pieces. Clutching her backside, she got out of the car and marched in place.

Kevin Keane’s eyes darkened as he lowered his voice. "Why don’t you go back to the dimension?"

Luna shook her head. Wherever she entered her dimension, she would have to exit from the exact same spot. Even if she went back, it would be better to do so when they were resting for the night. After all, the flow of time was different inside. She was afraid that if she fell asleep in the dimension, someone might come looking for her, and being discovered would be bad.

Rollo, on the other hand, had been kept in Luna’s dimension and was only let out when they got off the vehicle. The dog was brimming with energy and high spirits. It felt like if you gave it a plow, it could till twenty miles of land!

Hundreds of military trucks and off-road vehicles of various sizes came to a stop, stretching as far as the eye could see in the snow. People poured out of the vehicles like a swarm of ants. The scene was truly spectacular, leaving Luna completely shocked.

Luna had been stretching for less than two minutes when she saw a young soldier riding a dirt bike. He drifted and slammed on the brakes right in front of her, kicking up a massive spray of snow.

"Captain Dawson, my superior asked me to take you to distribute the supplies." The young soldier let out a hearty laugh, flashing a mouthful of bright white teeth.

This was Francis Grant’s second orderly, Phillip Sharp. He was only twenty-one years old, a Second Order speed Superpower User, and was now exclusively assigned to escort Luna around to distribute supplies.

Clutching her backside, Luna looked at the rugged dirt bike with a wrinkled face, extremely reluctant.

"Rollo!" Kevin called the Mad Dog back from where it was rolling in the snow.

Luna’s eyes lit up. Right, she could just ride the dog!

At Kevin’s signal, Rollo instantly transformed into its evolved form. POOF! It turned into the form of a gigantic golden retriever. The hundreds of people nearby were startled, and countless gasps echoed around them.

Luna grabbed Rollo’s mane for leverage and hopped on in two quick steps. Kevin was agile as well and vaulted up right behind her, claiming there were too many people around and he needed to protect his captain.

Phillip’s eyes bulged so far out they almost dropped from their sockets, and his jaw hung open, rendering him speechless.

Luna frowned at him, then glanced at Rollo’s broad back. With a thought, Phillip’s dirt bike vanished into thin air.

"Get on."

Kevin reached out a hand. Phillip numbly took it, completely bewildered as he found himself partaking in the extreme sport of riding a flying dog.

"Ahhh!"

The shrill scream had barely lasted a fraction of a second before he clamped a hand over his own mouth. Too much noise would attract zombies!

Under the shocked gazes of everyone in the convoy, a long-haired golden pig of a dog flew into the air carrying three people, a sight that would have made Newton climb right out of his coffin.

Wherever Phillip pointed, Rollo flew. Following the designated locations, Luna efficiently distributed all the supplies—tents, food, charcoal, stoves, and cooking utensils. The sight of piles of supplies appearing out of thin air was incredibly spectacular.

Once everything was quickly sorted out, Luna returned Phillip to Francis.

Oh, and she returned the rugged dirt bike too. After all, the young man had to ride his little bike to find her several times a day.

Francis’s facial features were scrunched together in a bitter expression. He looked at the two people riding on the dog’s back with complicated feelings.

He had just heard that inside the Marauder, there was a plant that acted like it was wound up, frantically darting out to smash zombies’ heads open along the way. If he had known earlier, he would have kept Luna by his side to clear the path together.

He stared at Luna with a resentful "why are you hiding everything from me" expression, leaving her completely baffled.

"Why didn’t you tell me about your dog and that vine?" he asked.

"You never asked."

"Well, I’m asking now."

"Honestly, I don’t really want to tell you..."

"Are there any other weird things?"

"Probably..."

Francis was speechless.

Hearing how Luna was intentionally avoiding saying too much to Francis, Kevin couldn’t suppress the upward curve of his lips.

While the two were bickering, a girl skipped over to them, drawing the attention of many people along the way.

The girl looked to be about the same age as Luna. She wore a white winter suit, with her hair braided and draped over one shoulder. She wore a matching winter hat and gloves. At a glance, it was obvious she was a young woman who was being well taken care of, even in the apocalypse.

However, the moment she arrived, she shot a fierce glare at Luna. Truthfully, Luna had seen her glaring at several other women who had looked at Francis from a distance.

Luna raised an eyebrow, scanning the two with an amused expression. The trope of a wealthy heiress madly pursuing the military district’s crown prince was running wildly through her mind.

Seeing Luna’s look of someone enjoying a good show, Francis helplessly rubbed his forehead. He turned to Skylar Quinn and introduced them. "Skylar, this is the other Third Rank space and Water Ability User on this mission, Luna Dawson, Captain Dawson. And this is the Third Rank Thunder System user, Kevin Keane, Captain Keane."

He paused, looking at Luna with a slightly softer tone. "Captain Dawson, Captain Keane, this is Skylar Quinn, a Third Rank space and wood Superpower User."

Luna and Kevin were both wearing thick hats and masks, revealing only their attractive eyes. The two of them smiled and nodded as a greeting.

"Colonel Grant, Miss Quinn, the work is done, so I’m off the clock and heading back," Luna’s leisurely voice drifted over.

Francis smiled and nodded, replying politely, "Thank you for your hard work, Captain Dawson. Do as you please."

With that said, Luna patted Rollo. Instantly, four swirling gusts of wind formed beneath Rollo’s paws, swiftly lifting them into the air and flying toward the middle of the convoy.

"So she’s Luna Dawson. What’s the big deal about having a slightly larger dimension? What’s the big deal about a dog that can fly?" Skylar wasn’t jealous at all. Not even the slightest bit!

Francis glanced at her and sighed inwardly. Uncle Quinn was always tossing his messes to him.

He ignored Skylar and went off to arrange the night watch sentries on his own. Skylar wasn’t angry either; she just continued to eagerly trail after him like a shadow.
