That's How We Necromancers Do Things

Chapter 430: Chapter 138: Just a Mission from the Beautiful Mentor (Part 1)
"I see you’re not exactly weak." Seeing Lynch’s "confession," Carl assumed he was scared, and his tone grew even more arrogant. "Why don’t we have a little match? A friendly spar. Let me see if a so-called Border Baron like you is truly worthy of that honor."
"Uh..." Lynch was even more stunned. He pointed at his own face. "You’re saying... you want to duel me?"
"What, got a problem with that?" With a flip of his right hand, Carl summoned a heavy Holy Knight’s longsword. A dense wave of Holy Light erupted from his body, instantly causing his aura to swell. "I know you Necromancers keep a lot of Undead Units, but in the face of Holy Light, mere Undead are nothing but worthless fodder!"
"Well... you do have a point." Lynch was speechless, his expression turning a little odd.
He really wanted to ask the guy, ’Have you ever actually dueled a real Necromancer before?’
’Do you have any idea what a Purple Zombie is!?’
But looking at Carl’s supremely confident expression, Lynch felt that any explanation would just be a waste of breath.
"Carl!"
Just then, Eleanor couldn’t stand to watch any longer. She jumped out from behind Lynch, flicking her ice-blue ponytail, and sneered, "You think you’re worthy of challenging Lord Lynch? I’m more than enough to take you on!"
As she spoke, her aura flared. The Frost Power that was once scattered and uncontrollable was now completely contained, forming a faint, ice-blue halo that enveloped her body.
It was unmistakably the aura of a Frost Elemental Mage.
"Eleanor." Carl’s expression darkened. "As a student of the Imperial Capital Academy, you’re actually siding with people from Hurst. Fine. Then let me teach you a lesson, you traitor..."
"Enough."
Lynch suddenly spoke. His voice wasn’t loud, but it carried the authority of a superior.
He was growing rather impatient.
This whole farce—from Lucas to the Berserker, then that fire Mage, and now this Carl popping up—was, in his eyes, as childish as a bunch of kindergarteners fighting over who gets to be king of the hill.
Watching this kind of drama once or twice had been amusing, like playing on a classic game server, but seeing it over and over was starting to give him a headache.
Carl’s level of awareness, in particular, was so childish it could rival Esther’s. He was far worse than even Dragon Flame.
He was someone who dared to refine the remnant soul of an Abyss Demon Lord. On the border, he was a figure who struck fear into the hearts of the Blue Scarf Rebel Army. What time did he have to play house with a bunch of brats?
Lynch raised his head, his gaze passing over Carl to land on the area behind the Imperial Capital Academy’s contingent.
Over there, a few High Tier instructors were watching the spectacle with their arms crossed.
The instructor in the lead was dressed luxuriously, a violet insignia pinned to his chest. He was clearly the Great Mage in charge of the Imperial Capital Academy’s group for this event.
With a single thought, Lynch condensed several strands of his Spiritual Power into one, connecting himself to the instructors like an invisible thread.
The next moment, his lips moved, and his voice simultaneously reached the ears of those few instructors, as clear as if he were whispering right next to them.
"Gentlemen, that’s enough of an appetizer... We’re all busy people, so let’s get on with the exam, shall we? I have things to take care of back home, and I really don’t have time to be here playing games with children."
The voice wasn’t loud; in fact, only those few instructors could hear it.
But it was precisely this display of extreme precision in controlling Spiritual Power that made the instructors, who had been watching with amusement, instantly freeze.
The Great Mage in the lead, in particular, felt his pupils contract. He glanced at Lynch a couple of times, his expression filled with disbelief.
’Such pure Spiritual Power, and such an incredible level of control... This kid, he’s no ordinary Tier Three. He might even be...’
A chill ran down the Great Mage’s spine as he understood everything in an instant.
With that boy Carl’s strength, barely at Tier Three, he probably wouldn’t last more than a few rounds against this young man.
If Carl was allowed to challenge him and got defeated in public—or worse, swept aside just like Lucas was—the Imperial Capital Academy would lose all face.
At that point, they could forget about promoting the three-school merger; he feared even this year’s recruitment would be affected.
"Teaching Assistant!?" The Great Mage whirled around. His voice was hushed, but it seethed with anger. "Where is the file on this Lynch Blackwood? Why have we never heard of Hurst Academy having someone like him before!?"
The young teaching assistant behind him jolted in fright. He frantically pulled a stack of parchments from his robes and rummaged through them for what felt like an eternity before shakily pulling one out.
He handed the parchment to the Great Mage. "H-Here it is, sir. Lynch Blackwood, a graduating student from Hurst Academy’s Undead Major. Excellent scores on all lower-year final assessments. Currently interning with the Thirteenth Battle Group of the North Wind Legion... Th-That’s... that’s all."
"That’s all!?" The Great Mage was so furious his beard bristled, and he almost exploded on the spot. "I told you to gather detailed intelligence on the Hurst Academy students, and this is what you give me!? Interning with the North Wind Legion!? An internship can produce a monster like him!?"
The teaching assistant trembled in fear and hastily replied, "I’ll look into it right away! I’ll find out everything as soon as possible!"
That’s what he said, but inwardly he couldn’t help but grumble.
’It’s not like *I* was the one who gathered this intelligence. Can I really be blamed if it’s wrong?
In truth, this isn’t my fault at all. The entire faculty of the Imperial Capital Academy has never taken Hurst Academy seriously, which is why the intelligence we gathered was so sloppy and was never properly investigated.’
