Chapter 429: Chapter 138: Just a Task from the Beautiful Mentor (Part 1)

"Not so fast." Airendra Moon Language’s eyes narrowed. "It’s not over yet."

Just as she’d said, the students from the Imperial Capital Academy were unwilling to admit defeat so easily.

An Elemental Mage in a blue mage robe jumped out, pointed at Ophelia, and roared, "You’re just a brute who only knows how to use force! If you have any real skill, fight me with magic!"

"A duel of magic?"

A soft chuckle came from the crowd of Hurst Academy students.

Immediately after, the crowd parted. Lilith tossed her long, pale-gold hair and strode out from their midst.

In the two years that had passed, she had blossomed. The baby fat on her cheeks had vanished, making her features all the more refined and striking.

Today, she wore a fiery red mage robe and held a magic staff set with a ruby. As she gazed at the mage from the Imperial Capital, her eyes flashed with excitement. "Let me be the one to entertain you."

"Fireball Technique!"

Without another word, the mage from the Imperial Capital attacked, sending a massive fireball whistling toward Lilith.

"A parlor trick." Lilith scoffed. She gave her magic staff a light tap. "Infernal Wall of Fire!"

BOOM!

A wall of fire three meters high erupted from thin air, instantly consuming the fireball.

Before the mage from the Empire could react, Lilith waved her staff again and again. "Fire Feather Skill!"

The next moment, countless feathers coalesced from pure flame and began to drift down from the sky, as thick and dense as a heavy snowfall.

The feathers were light and fluttered about, their trajectories unpredictable, and each one radiated scorching heat.

Getting hit by even a few of them would result in serious injury.

The mage from the Imperial Capital was startled and scrambled to raise a shield. But there were simply too many fire feathers, and they all drifted down toward his shield in an endless, rain-like barrage.

He was immediately forced back, step by step.

"It’s over." A sharp glint flashed in Lilith’s eyes as she fiercely swung her staff. "Flame Dragon’s Roar!"

ROOOOAR!

A dragon of pure, condensed flame erupted from the tip of her staff, pouncing on her opponent with bared fangs and brandished claws.

The Imperial Capital mage’s shield shattered instantly. The heatwave sent him flying, and he landed on the ground in a pathetic heap.

A closer look revealed that most of his hair and eyebrows were singed off. His mage robe was scorched black, with holes burned through in several places. He was a truly wretched sight.

"My win!"

Lilith gave a playful wink, then turned crisply and returned to her group, where she and Ophelia celebrated with a high-five.

’Sure, back in Lakefront Town, I was a nobody. Anyone could just come up and pat my head. But out here... you have to call me Lady Lilith!’

And just like that, they had won three matches in a row.

Morale on the Hurst Academy side soared. The students held their heads high, chests puffed out, their gazes toward the Imperial Capital Academy full of challenge.

At that moment, someone with sharp eyes on the Imperial Capital Academy’s side suddenly spotted Eleanor hiding among the Hurst ranks, munching on an apple as she watched the spectacle.

"Eleanor! What are you doing with the Hurst students?" one of the students from the Imperial Capital demanded, pointing a finger at her. "You belong to the Imperial Capital Academy!"

Eleanor swallowed her mouthful of apple, planted her hands on her hips, and shouted back defiantly, "I’ll hang out wherever I want! What’s it to a bunch of losers like you? If you’ve got a problem with it, why don’t you go win three matches in a row?"

"You..." The students from the Imperial Capital Academy were so furious their faces turned pale, but they had no comeback.

Eleanor may not have been a top-ranked powerhouse in Lakefront Town, but among students of her year, she was undoubtedly one of the best. Few from the Imperial Capital Academy dared to challenge her.

Ultimately, all eyes fell in unison upon Karl von Hohenlohe.

The arrogance on the face of the Imperial Capital Academy’s top student had finally subsided.

He slowly stepped out from the crowd, his sharp gaze sweeping over the students from Hurst Academy before finally locking onto Lynch.

"Lynch Blackwood. I’ve heard of you." Karl began in a low voice, his long golden hair whipping in the sea breeze. His razor-sharp gaze swept across Lynch’s face. "Relying on the backing of Hurst Academy, relying on your mentor’s good relationship with Legion Commander Jais and Archmage Edmund, you not only do as you please in the borderlands, but you even dared to detain my own uncle, Fritz von Hohenlohe, and his guards... Today, I will see for myself just what you’re capable of!"

"Huh..."

Lynch studied Karl’s arrogant face, a little surprised. "You’re Fritz’s nephew?"

He was shocked, and then utterly speechless. ’This is the third member of the House of Hohenzollern I’ve run into. The first was Andre, whose extreme arrogance brought about his own destruction. The second was Fritz. And now this guy makes three.’

’Honestly, is there something wrong with this family’s upbringing?’

’Every last one of them acts so high and mighty. They’re all just begging to be put in their place.’

Karl grew uncomfortable under Lynch’s strange gaze and glared. "What are you looking at? Was I wrong?"

"Right, right, you’re absolutely right." Lynch couldn’t be bothered to argue. He just shrugged and agreed with a look of utmost sincerity. "I did indeed rely on my mentor to do whatever I wanted in the borderlands. Everything you said is correct."

’Obviously, this was the excuse the House of Hohenzollern came up with to save face after getting stonewalled by Legion Commander Jais.’

Lynch felt a wave of resignation. ’It’s probably impossible to have a proper conversation with a kid who’s been coddled his entire life unless you send him to the mines for a good, long reality check.’
