Chapter 348: Chapter 127: Terrifying to This Extent! Lord Lynch

It was common knowledge that a Necromancer owed 99% of their power to their endless Undead Army. If you took away their summons and had a Necromancer engage in a duel of Magic like other Mages... a Warrior of the same tier would be absolutely confident they could crush them.

Besides, Lord Lynch was nowhere near Tier Three.

This wasn’t a challenge.

This was a godsent windfall!

"Sir! Me, pick me! I’m early Tier Three, specializing in defense and charging. I’m tough as hide; I guarantee you’ll have a satisfying fight!" A burly, broad-shouldered man carrying a tower shield was the first to jump out, his face flushed with excitement.

"The hell with you! Hans, what’s the fun in that turtle-shell style of yours? Sir, pick me! I’m a Tier Three Middle Stage Light Armor Swordsman. I’m fast and agile, and I’ll definitely let you get a better... uh, feel for real combat!" another swordsman with a lean build and sharp eyes hurriedly pushed the brawny man aside, rushing in front of Lynch to eagerly recommend himself.

"All of you, move aside! Sir, I am a Tier Three Peak shield-and-axe Warrior, skilled in both offense and defense. With my vast experience, I’m sure to be the perfect match for your test!" A third, middle-aged Warrior with the most powerful presence of them all spoke up in a deep voice, a sharp glint in his eyes.

For a moment, the Tier Three instructors argued until they were red in the face, nearly starting a fight on the spot to decide who would get the chance.

The remaining, slightly weaker instructors and the new recruits in the distance all craned their necks, watching the scene with a mixture of envy and curiosity.

Lynch was amused watching his subordinates instantly transform into a pack of "bounty hunters." He casually pointed to the lean Light Armor Swordsman who had spoken up first. "You’ll do. Get a move on."

The chosen swordsman was ecstatic, practically skipping over to an empty sparring area.

The other instructors and Soldiers saw this and immediately swarmed over, forming a large, loose circle around the area. Then they began chattering excitedly.

"Jack sure got lucky!"

"A thousand Gold Coins... With that, you could live it up in the most luxurious establishments in the Imperial Capital for months..."

"Heh heh, how many moves do you guys think the Sir can last against Jack? I’m betting five!"

"Five moves? Look how calm and collected the Sir is. Maybe he’s really got something up his sleeve. He’ll probably be able to hold his own for a bit... I’ll bet ten moves!"

In the center of the ring, the Light Armor Swordsman named Jack took a few deep breaths to calm his excitement. He then drew the Longsword from his waist and fell into a standard opening stance.

He looked at Lynch, who was more than ten meters away and still just standing there casually, not even in a casting stance. Suddenly remembering something, he asked cautiously.

"Sir, um, can I... go all out? I mean, I’ll be using my full Combat Aura and all my skills. If... and I’m just saying, if I happen to win by accident, you... you won’t hold it against me later, right?"

It was a frank question, and it voiced the concerns of most of the onlookers.

Lynch chuckled. "What a stupid question!" he said with a laugh. "Of course you have to go all out. If you win, you’ll get the reward on the spot. If you lose..."

He paused before continuing leisurely, "Then you’ll volunteer for ten lashes to help you remember to be a bit smarter next time you fight. Enough talk. Begin."

"Yes, Sir!"

Jack’s spirits soared, all his worries cast aside.

’A Tier Three Middle Stage Light Armor Warrior fighting a Tier Two Middle Stage Necromancer who isn’t summoning any Undead. If I can still lose this... then I’ll pledge myself to the Sir for the rest of my life.’

A glint flashed in his eyes. His Tier Three Combat Aura began to circulate rapidly as his leg muscles tensed. His gaze locked onto Lynch, but he said aloud, "Sir, watch out. I’m about to—"

The word "attack" had not yet left his mouth.

Jack stomped hard. The force of it cracked the hard ground, creating a small crater and sending dust flying.

He used the force of that stomp to launch himself forward, turning into a blurry afterimage as he shot toward Lynch like an arrow loosed from a bow.

He moved so fast that he tore through the air, creating a sharp whistling sound.

Skill—[Heroic Charge].

"Holy shit!"

"You’re shameless, Jack!"

"What happened to the warning?!"

The faces of the onlookers, including Cam Leisuo, changed as they all gasped in surprise.

No one had expected it. While Jack was verbally warning him to "be careful," his actions were to launch a sudden, unannounced attack, attempting to catch Lord Lynch completely off guard.

Judging by his move, his plan was clearly to close the distance as fast as possible, preventing Lynch from having enough time to cast a spell and thus seizing the initiative!

It was certainly a "tactical" move, but it was also a shameless one.

’Interesting... It seems these old soldiers really are experienced. They’re quick-witted and know how to seize every opportunity to create an advantage. Not at all like the academy types.’

A flicker of surprise passed through Lynch’s eyes.

’But this is actually better. It’s closer to a real battle! This is exactly the effect I was hoping for.’

Lynch stood his ground, his expression remaining calm and unhurried.

And in the blink of an eye, Jack had closed the distance to a mere five meters.

The Longsword in his hand pulsed with Combat Aura, and its sharp Sword Qi was about to graze Lynch’s Mage Robe.

At that moment, Lynch finally moved.

He simply lifted his right hand, the one holding [Raven’s Whisper].

SWOOSH—

A faint spatial ripple, like one on the surface of water, instantly spread out from [Raven’s Whisper].

The next instant, Lynch’s figure abruptly vanished.

Wreathed in a fierce gale, Jack smashed through the spot where Lynch had just been standing, only to find he had merely dispersed a slowly fading afterimage.
