Chapter 328: Chapter 124: Mentor Annabella and the Little Junior Sister Have Arrived
...
And just as the female assassin realized something was wrong, her heart pounding in alarm, a milky, childlike voice suddenly rang out from extremely close behind her, without any warning.
"Hee hee~ Ooh~ You... why... have you stopped moving? Eeeeyaaa~?"
The voice was soft and sweet, and even carried a hint of grogginess, as if its owner had just woken up.
To the female assassin’s ears, however, the voice was like a clap of thunder, and the blood in her veins felt as if it had frozen solid in an instant.
Her scalp prickled. She turned her head, inch by agonizing inch, toward the source of the voice.
There, hanging upside down from the ceiling behind her like a bat, was a pale little girl in an exquisite black, lace-trimmed dress, a pair of small wings folded against her back.
Strangely, despite her inverted position, her skirt and hair remained perfectly in place against her body, defying gravity. Her scarlet, Gemstone-like eyes blinked as she watched the assassin with a look of pure innocence, as if observing a curious new toy.
In an instant.
A chilling sense of mortal danger flooded the female assassin’s heart.
The feeling of danger coming from this seemingly harmless little girl far surpassed that of the Necromancer sitting at the desk.
’This... this is... the little Vampire from the intelligence report?’
’When did she get behind me?’
’How could I have not sensed any presence approaching at all?’
’Dammit, wasn’t she only supposed to be Tier Three?’
But that wasn’t even the most terrifying part.
Something amiss caught the female assassin’s eye in her peripheral vision.
She stole a glance, only to discover with horror that in the shadows of the room’s corner, the air was rippling like water.
Three faint, smoke-like specters were slowly emerging from the shadows, forming a triangle that vaguely surrounded her.
The aura of one of the specters was particularly solid and icy, posing a considerable threat.
"Arf? Woof~"
In a nest of animal hides in the corner, Dragon Flame, awakened by the commotion, groggily lifted his head. His vertical golden pupils stared curiously at the stranger.
He seemed to have instinctively sensed her hostility, for he opened his mouth and spat out a jet of orange-red flame.
Unfortunately, the tiny flame didn’t even make it two feet before the sparks flickered twice in the air and died out.
"Er..."
The sight made the female assassin’s eyelid twitch violently.
’A Dragon Descendant Kobold cub, too... What kind of shitty taste does this Necromancer have?’
"Dragon Flame, be polite to our guest."
Just then, Lynch, who was sitting at the desk, closed the Death Codex in his hands. He turned around unhurriedly, a faint, pleasant smile on his face.
His hand rested casually on the armrest, but his fingertips were idly toying with an elegant ring inlaid with a Moonstone.
The next moment.
A trace of pure lunar fire power leaked out.
The female assassin felt a terrifying pressure lock onto her, as if a devastating blow could be unleashed at any moment.
She instantly determined that it was an instant-cast, High Tier Magic. Her scalp tingled with fear once more.
She had no doubt that if she dared make the slightest move, the Magic contained within that ring would instantly erase her from this world, leaving not even ash behind.
’Damn it, damn it, DAMN IT!!!’ A storm of rage and terror raged in the female assassin’s heart. ’What the hell kind of intel was this?!’
’Is this kid really a fucking Tier Two Necromancer? In this room, there’s a little Vampire who’s at least Tier Four Peak and unbelievably bizarre. There are also three specters, one of which is definitely Tier Four! And that ring on his hand... the Magic sealed inside it is absolutely above Tier Six!’
’This isn’t some pushover you can just crush! This is a goddamn Demon’s Nest!’
And while the female assassin was internally cursing the intelligence provider...
Lynch, however, calmly adjusted his posture and spoke politely, "So, my uninvited guest... would you care to introduce yourself now?"
The female assassin’s throat bobbed, and she made a gulping sound. Her voice was hoarse as she asked, "If... if I confess everything, will you let me go?"
Lynch replied with a sincere expression, "Sorry, but no."
The female assassin’s pupils contracted. Her last sliver of hope was shattered.
SHING!
The female assassin moved.
With a flick of her right hand, three ghastly blue poison needles shot out, aimed straight for Lynch’s face, throat, and heart—three vital points.
The moment she launched the needles, she also activated a small alchemical item in the palm of her left hand.
BANG!
A soft pop echoed as a blindingly intense light erupted in the room, instantly illuminating it as brightly as day.
It was a specially made flash-bang, designed to interfere with an enemy’s vision and senses—an essential consumable for any assassin.
The instant the bright light exploded, the female assassin’s figure suddenly blurred and distorted. At the same time, she kicked off the floor, the energy around her fluctuating violently as her speed pushed to its absolute limit. A trail of afterimages followed her as she shot toward the half-open window.
At this moment, she had only one thought in her mind.
’Get out!’
’As long as I can get out of this room, the night outside will be my best cover. With my speed and stealth as a Tier Four assassin, I still have a chance to survive.’
This entire series of actions—from the surprise attack to the blinding cover, to the extreme acceleration and choice of escape route—all happened in the blink of an eye. Her movements were as fluid as flowing water and moving clouds, dazzlingly fast.
