Chapter 285 - 118: Dragon Descendant Warlock! Lynch Had a Child Out of Wedlock?
Chapter 285: Chapter 118: Dragon Descendant Warlock! Lynch Had a Child Out of Wedlock?
Lynch smiled at the sight, then turned and took more skewers from the nearby ingredient basket, placing them on the charcoal fire to continue grilling.
Soon, this batch of skewers was about seventy or eighty percent cooked. Grease dripped into the charcoal, making a SIZZLING sound.
Just then, the sound of hurried footsteps burst into the backyard.
"Lord Lynch!"
The young Ice Element Mage, Eleanor Frost, walked up to the charcoal stove with her cheeks puffed out, fuming. She radiated an aura of "I am not pleased."
"Why didn’t you take me to fight the Gnolls? Lord Aus kept me on logistics! During the celebration today, all I did was handle trivial matters—tallying supplies, counting personnel, arranging meals... It’s all just menial work!"
Her emotions running high, the chill emanating from her body spread uncontrollably. The flames in the charcoal stove flickered and nearly went out.
Lynch quickly fanned the fire with his hand to save it. "My dear young lady," he said helplessly, "war is a life-or-death struggle, not a picnic. What’s wrong with logistics? Logistics is the lifeblood of an army..."
Before he could finish, Eleanor’s complaints continued to fire at him like a machine gun. "I’m a Tier Two Peak Ice Element Mage, and I was a top student at the academy! But now that I’m here, I spend all day checking ledgers and managing the warehouse! I want to be like Catherine and Ophelia..."
Halfway through her rant, a few steaming skewers, slathered in sauce, were suddenly thrust into her hand.
Eleanor took them instinctively.
The aroma of the grilled skewers wafted straight into her nose. She hesitated for a moment but couldn’t resist taking a bite.
"Mmm..."
After chewing a couple of times, her eyes lit up slightly.
’Delicious!’
The meat was juicy, the sauce was rich, and it was cooked to perfection.
She took another big bite, her lips glistening with grease. For a moment, she even forgot to continue her rant.
Just then, "Sea Song," who had been quietly eating skewers nearby, suddenly turned her head to look at Lynch and Eleanor. She asked softly, "Combat with the Gnolls?"
Her intonation and syllables were peculiar, carrying a song-like rhythm. It was clearly not the common tongue of the continent.
Lynch paused, looking at her in confusion. "Huh? Sea Song, what did you say?"
But Eleanor shot Lynch a disdainful glance, swallowed the meat in her mouth, and said indistinctly, "That’s High Elven Language, Lord Lynch. Don’t they teach that at Hurst Academy? It’s a required course for many magic-related majors. The pronunciation and structure of many ancient Magic Spells are related to the High Elven Language."
Lynch had a moment of realization and scratched his head. "I think they do teach it... But I remember only students majoring as an Elemental Mage or in Alchemy take it as an elective, right? As a proud Necromancer, our casting Spells mostly originate from the ancient language of the Netherworld or some Abyssal dialect. They have nothing to do with the elegant High Elven Language. What’s the point of learning it?"
He turned back to Sea Song, somewhat baffled. "By the way, Sea Song, why did you suddenly start speaking the High Elven Language? Are you picking on me because I can’t understand it?"
In truth, Lynch knew that the current High Sea Race of the Deep Sea Royal Court were likely descendants of the ancient High Elves who had adapted to the marine environment. Their language shared a common origin with the Ancient Elven Language and was highly similar to it.
Moreover, to study ancient Magic, Arrays, and Pharmacy, the scholars and Casters among the Sea Race were also typically fluent in the Ancient Elven Language.
The Moonlight Priestess instantly realized she had subconsciously used her native tongue. Her heart tightened slightly, but her expression remained impassive. She immediately switched back to the common tongue, though her tone still couldn’t help but carry a hint of an ancient accent. "You fought the Gnolls. What was the situation?"
"What do you mean, ’you’? It’s ’us’!" Lynch grew even more puzzled, looking her up and down. "Sea Song, why are you talking so formally today? And with a bit of an accent... How do you not know the result yet? Didn’t Aus tell you? The celebration started a while ago."
"I was busy," the Moonlight Priestess replied curtly, afraid of saying too much and making a mistake.
"Alrighty then~"
Lynch didn’t press the matter. While turning the skewers on the grill, he briefly recounted the battle to wipe out the Gnolls. He concluded, still a bit shaken, "...Anyway, that bunch of Gnolls are utterly disgusting. Especially that guy behind them, Yenogu. He’s got a high rank, but he’s fixated on me~ And he calls himself an Abyss Demon Lord. The guy is unbelievably petty."
A cold glint flashed through the Moonlight Priestess’s eyes. "Yenogu... The Gnoll King, a claw of the Abyss."
Her tone was laced with disgust and hatred.
"Yeah, that’s the one!" Lynch snorted. "To put it bluntly, he’s just a turncoat who sold out to the Abyss. Just you wait. Once I get strong enough, I’ll charge into his den one day and make him kneel and beg for mercy!"
Hearing this, the light in the Moonlight Priestess’s eyes softened by an imperceptible trace.
’This human boy in front of me might be annoying,’ she thought, ’but his hostility and fighting spirit toward the Abyssal Influence have improved my opinion of him just a tiny bit.’
However, that tiny bit of "favorability" she had just developed plummeted in the very next second.
Lynch took another indignant bite of his skewer and continued complaining, "And another thing! That damned old hag in the ruins! All I did was help her tidy up her messy home, and she had the nerve to glare at me... When I get stronger, I’m definitely going to rip her soul out and have fun whipping it with a soul lash every day. We’ll see if she still dares to glare at me then!"
"Old hag!?"
The Moonlight Priestess’s fingers, holding the skewer stick, tightened slightly. The light in her eyes surged violently a couple of times.
