Chapter 252: Chapter 113: Ancient Elf Ruins! Obtaining a Ghost Unit

Aus soon brought Avril to the basement.

At first, she was a little confused. But when she saw everyone gathered in the basement, along with the strange frame of a Teleportation Gate, she puffed out her cheeks, and her eyes instantly welled with hurt.

’I didn’t know a thing about such an important, top-secret project from start to finish. Doesn’t this mean I’ve been excluded from Lynch’s core team?’

Lynch took one look at her expression and had a good idea what she was thinking. He smiled and explained, "From the very beginning, only Sea Song and Jinke have been involved in the research and construction. We needed their specific expertise."

"Besides them and me, the only other person who knows is Aus, since he’s in charge of coordinating supplies and site security. You’re the fifth person to find out; even Amadis doesn’t know yet. This is a critical matter—the fewer people who know, the better."

Avril’s expression softened slightly at his explanation, but she still shot a sidelong glance at Aus. Her gaze clearly said, ’So you knew even before I did.’

Aus flinched and quickly waved his hands, explaining, "Miss Avril, it’s only because I had to help Lord Lynch coordinate the procurement of some materials, organize the men to reinforce this secret basement, and handle security for the outer perimeter! I wouldn’t have been able to do my job otherwise, that’s the only reason Lord Lynch let me in on the plan..."

"Alright, that’s enough. Let’s hurry and get started," Lynch said with a wave of his hand.

Soon, the stone disk core was reinstalled in its proper place.

As Lynch infused it with his Magic Power, the runes on the frame lit up once more, and the mirror-like surface, shimmering with spatial ripples, appeared within the frame again.

Lynch cast his Skeleton Summoning Skill again. A newly summoned Bone Valor crawled out of the vortex. Under his control, it gripped its Bone Knife and strode purposefully into the Teleportation Gate.

This time, Lynch didn’t rush into any other actions. Instead, he used his shared vision to carefully guide the Bone Valor in a circle around the altar on the other side.

He soon discovered the skeleton of an Elf beside the altar. Next to it lay a Magic Staff resembling a withered branch, the Gemstone set into it long since covered in dust.

Lynch had the Bone Valor bend down and prod the Elf skeleton with its Bone Knife, revealing some metal jewelry and scraps of fabric.

He attempted to have the Bone Valor pick up the pieces of Elven fabric, which looked to be in good condition, intending to use them to wrap the Magic Staff and jewelry.

However, the moment the fabric was touched, it crumbled into dust, having clearly disintegrated with age.

The jewelry, however, was sturdy. As the fabric disintegrated, the pieces scattered across the floor.

Resigned, Lynch could only have the Bone Valor try to pick up the scattered items directly.

Just then, that familiar feeling returned.

The spiritual link between Lynch and the Bone Valor grew sluggish and stiff once more.

Lynch raised an eyebrow. ’Heh, it got me again?’

Since he had been expecting it, he was quite calm this time. He even had the presence of mind to start counting the seconds in his head.

Six seconds later, the link broke.

Three more seconds passed.

The surface of the teleportation mirror rippled. The "traitor" Bone Valor emerged, glowing with a faint blue aura, its eyes burning with ice-blue Soul Fire.

It seemed to have locked onto the frequency of Lynch’s spiritual fluctuations, because it immediately charged straight for him!

Then...

BAM! CRUNCH!

The Corpse Demon’s massive palm struck right on cue, smashing the traitor Bone Valor to smithereens.

A faint blue ghost shrieked as it pulled free from the bony remains and lunged at Lynch again.

"Heh, the same old trick," Lynch chuckled, tapping his Magic Staff in quick succession.

CRACK! CRACK! CRACK!

Three more consecutive Soul Lashes struck the ghost, causing its Soul Body to shudder as it let out a piercing wail.

This ghost seemed a bit smarter than the last one. After taking a few lashes, it realized this human was not to be trifled with. It made a feint, then turned and tried to flee back toward the Teleportation Gate.

But as it turned, it saw the goblin Jinke leaping down from the Teleportation Gate, holding the stone disk core that had just been removed. Jinke nimbly ducked and hid behind Sea Song.

Jinke even peeked his head out from behind Sea Song and gave the ghost the middle finger.

The ghost: "???"

It froze for a fraction of a second.

CRACK! CRACK!

Two more Soul Lashes struck it, leaving its Soul Body so damaged it had become almost transparent.

At the same time, a chain of golden Holy Light materialized from thin air, coiling around the ghost like a living serpent and binding it in place.

This was one of the signature skills of a Holy Priest—Undead Binding!

The spell had come from Avril!

At some point, she had prepared to cast a spell. Her face was set in a serious expression, and the tip of her Priest’s Magic Staff still held the afterglow of Holy Light.

But she wasn’t done.

Avril gave her Magic Staff another light wave, and a whip formed from pure Spiritual Power materialized, lashing viciously at the bound ghost’s Soul Body.

"CRACK!"

The whip sent new ripples through the ghost’s Soul Body, and it let out a hissing wail.

This made even Lynch look over in surprise.

He gave Avril a strange look. "Wait. Didn’t you say Mind Flay is a Shadow Priest skill? A ’dirty’ spell?"

A blush instantly bloomed on Avril’s fair cheeks.

She turned her head, unable to meet Lynch’s eyes, and mumbled, "W-well... you mentioned before that this skill is a lot like the Soul Lash from your Undead System, and that it might be useful in certain situations... S-so I just... learned a little bit of it, that’s all~"

Upon hearing this, Aus, Sea Song, and Jinke all let out a collective, "Ooooh."

Aus, in particular, couldn’t help but shoot several glances at Lynch, his expression seeming to say, ’I get it, my man,’ and, ’You’ve really got some game, bro~’
