Chapter 237: Chapter 111: My Elegy Mom is Pretty Strong
...
Holy shiiit!
Lynch shuddered as the pressure on his soul instantly vanished.
’That voice... It’s my dear Elegy! She’s here!’
To be honest, his feelings toward this Demigod from the Netherworld had always been extremely complicated.
He was afraid of her coming, yet he was also afraid of her not coming. But what he feared most was her showing up and running wild.
But regardless, in this desperate moment, with the Demon Refining Lord’s projection bearing down on them, hearing that lazy yet familiar voice gave Lynch an overwhelming sense of security. He even felt a warmth spread through his chest.
Almost at the same instant, the Angel Statue in Avril’s hand erupted with light.
The next moment, a brilliant radiance shot straight toward the heavens.
A slender, winged figure, wreathed in flowing Holy Light, rapidly coalesced within the radiance and descended, positioning itself before Avril.
It was Lynch’s "old acquaintance," the Grant Clan’s contracted Guardian Angel—Mijanar.
The moment Mijanar arrived, her eyes fell upon the massive, terrifying phantom.
A flicker of astonishment crossed her sacred eyes, followed by a sharp intake of breath.
’Good heavens!’
She could only think, ’Good heavens.’
Last time, that girl Avril had summoned her projection just to deal with a mere Tier Four pest. Mijanar had thought she was making a mountain out of a molehill and wasting a precious summoning opportunity.
But who would have thought that just a few days later...?!
Avril would present her with such a massive undertaking—a Demon Lord from Hell.
Mijanar recognized him at a glance. It was the Demon Refining Lord, Ragnarash, one of the many rulers of the seventh level of Hell, renowned for his tyranny, greed, and mastery over the laws of flame and destruction.
His power was, of course, far beyond that of a mere two-winged Holy Light Angel like herself. In fact, he could even rival a Four-winged Great Angel from the Celestial Divine Kingdom.
"Interesting. How very interesting."
The Demon Refining Lord Ragnarash sized up the newly descended Holy Light Angel with great interest before his gaze swept over Lynch and the others, a hint of excitement creeping into his voice.
"My follower promised a bountiful offering of souls today, which is why I granted him a Flame Demon’s aid. I did not expect both him and the Flame Demon to perish, severing the Soul Contract... So, I expended no small amount of power to come take a look, intending to personally collect some interest."
He paused, his scorching gaze locking onto Mijanar. "But I never expected such a pleasant surprise. The soul projection of a Holy Light Angel... Merely two-winged, but its essence is pure. A rare and delicious delicacy for me. Heheheh..."
For high-tier beings like Demon Refining Lords and Angels, descending to the prime material plane as a projection is not without its price.
They must often split off a fragment of their soul to serve as an anchor and a vessel for their power.
If the projection is destroyed on the prime material plane, that soul fragment is also annihilated. This damages the original soul, which then requires a great deal of time to recover.
But clearly, in Ragnarash’s eyes, the reward for destroying a two-winged Angel’s projection and devouring its soul fragment far outweighed the risk.
"You filthy fiend of Hell!" Though Mijanar’s heart quailed, her dignity and duty as a Holy Light Angel forbade her from showing fear or retreating.
Shielding the weakened Avril behind her, her cold, clear voice echoed across the battlefield. "Avril, you and the others must leave this place at once! Get as far away as you can!"
With that, the Holy Light around her flared, and a magnificent, majestic suit of Holy Light Armor instantly encased her.
At the same time, she raised her left arm, and a radiant shield of light materialized upon it. Her right hand clenched around the hilt of a Longsword blazing with Divine Flame.
With a sharp cry, she beat her wings and soared into the sky, flying to meet the terrifying projection of the Demon Refining Lord. Her valiant posture was tinged with tragic resolve.
"Run! Everyone, split up and run! Don’t look back!"
Lynch reacted in a flash. He grabbed Avril’s wrist and roared at the others, who stood stunned by the rapid turn of events.
Raymond also snapped out of it, quickly leaping onto his Skeleton Warhorse and shouting hoarsely, "All members of the Thirteenth Battle Group, abandon the square and scatter! Don’t bunch up!"
Without another word, he spurred his steed into a gallop, not once looking back.
The others scattered like birds flushed from a bush, fleeing madly in all directions.
Fleeing this way served two purposes: first, it prevented the Demon Refining Lord from wiping them all out with a single attack, and second, with the crowd dispersed, the individual targets might be too small for him to bother with.
There was no other way. Even as a mere projection, the shockwaves from a being of this level were enough to easily crush "mortals" like them. To stay behind would be a meaningless sacrifice.
And indeed, the Demon Refining Lord Ragnarash paid no mind to the fleeing ants below.
His attention was now completely captivated by the Holy Light Angel. Even if she was just a fragment of a soul, she was a high-quality soul, infinitely more valuable than those ants.
"Commendable courage, little fledgling," he sneered, his voice rumbling like thunder.
As his voice faded, the leathery wings on his back unfurled. His massive form rapidly ascended, confronting Mijanar in the air.
The battle erupted in an instant!
Ragnarash gave a casual wave of his hand, and a vast sea of dark red Hellfire materialized from nothing, sweeping toward Mijanar.
The very air warped and crackled where the flames passed.
Seeing this, Mijanar immediately raised the shield of light before her. Dazzling Holy Light condensed into a thick barrier, struggling to withstand the searing Hellfire.
