Chapter 231: Chapter 110: Pale Elegy: What a Lively Scene

...

’Th-this kid... what is he doing here?’

’And he joined the Blue Scarves?’

For a moment, Raymond was completely stunned.

Especially after days of continuous fighting, his head was already spinning. Seeing this, the first thought that popped into his mind was: ’Did this brat get captured and turn traitor?’

But the next instant,

he banished the absurd thought from his mind.

His junior was as cunning as a fox. Back at the academy, he had taken down a powerful Viscount. Not long after arriving at Red Ridge Mountain, even Andis of the Radiant Battle Group had suffered a major loss at his hands.

’How could a few mere Blue Scarves possibly subdue him?’

’Then... once you eliminate the impossible, only one truth remains!’

’The kid has infiltrated the Blue Scarves and is planning to pull something behind the scenes...’

Raymond looked closely, and sure enough, the kid seemed to be winking and making faces at him.

He understood instantly, his heart leaping with wild joy.

’Yes, yes, yes! I thought I was a goner in this battle, but now it looks like there’s a chance to turn things around!’

Fortunately, he was an old hand who had weathered many storms, lacking neither cunning nor quick reflexes.

He immediately took a deep breath to steady himself, then began to curse furiously at Angus. "Angus, you backstabbing, noble-slaying, son-of-a-bitch bastard! And you, the little shit-talking brat with him! I’m standing right here today! If you’ve got the guts, come and get me! See if I don’t rip out your bones and feed them to the dogs!!"

The dwarves on the walls could no longer hold back either. They immediately started roaring back in their cacophonous voices, unleashing a torrent of curses in heavily accented Common Tongue and Dwarven slang.

The vulgarity of the content and the richness of the imagination left even Lynch somewhat dumbfounded.

One had to admit,

the Dwarf Race had quite a talent for cursing.

Angus’s men, not to be outdone, returned the insults in kind.

For a time, the front lines of the siege battlefield turned into an incredibly fierce verbal showdown.

The Catastrophe Mage on the high platform in the distance listened with interest at first, but he soon lost his patience and began to arrange his troops.

"All units, final equipment check! Prepare to attack!"

"Angus Fisher, your department will be the vanguard of the first wave. Shortly, I will summon a ’Hell Messenger’ to clear the way for you. Once it tears through the wall’s defenses, you will follow closely behind and storm the top! If this battle is won, yours will be the primary merit!"

Solar’s voice, carried by Mana, rang clearly and directly in Angus’s ear.

"As you command, my lord," Angus replied with a respectful bow.

With that, he began to loudly rally his troops’ morale and adjust their formation.

"Brothers! Lord Solar is summoning a messenger from Hell to pave our way! This is our chance to win glory and wash away our shame!"

"In a moment, everyone follow me closely! Those who retreat will be executed! Those who fear battle will be executed! The first man to reach the top of the wall, I, myself, will personally request a commendation from Lord Solar for him, and a reward of one thousand gold coins!"

Under his "encouragement," the eyes of the originally apprehensive Soldiers gradually grew fanatical.

As Angus shouted, he directed his troops to their starting positions, inconspicuously maneuvering them closer to the Catastrophe Mage’s high platform, placing them just behind the open ground for the summoning Array.

A squad of elite Warlock Personal Guards stood watch by the high platform.

Seeing the Angus Department draw too close, they frowned, their hands moving to their weapons.

But after hearing Angus’s "impassioned" pre-battle speech and seeing his ready-to-die-in-battle demeanor, the captain of the Personal Guard hesitated for a moment, then waved his hand, signaling his subordinates to stand down.

With a great battle imminent, there was no need to create unnecessary trouble by driving away this "battle-ready" reinforcement. Causing an unwanted conflict or dampening their morale would be counterproductive.

Meanwhile, from his vantage point on the wall, Raymond took in the enemy’s every movement below, especially the new position of the Angus Department, which was now extremely close to the Catastrophe Mage’s high platform.

His certainty grew.

While having the dwarves continue their shouting to draw attention, he ordered the ranged units on the wall to get ready.

Soon, in the open space cleared in front of the high platform, the Catastrophe Mage’s personal troops used a dark red powder to draw a pentagram Array over ten meters in diameter. They then embedded dozens of medium-grade Fire Element Energy Crystals, which pulsed with scorching heat, into the Array’s key nodes.

As the last crystal was set in place,

the entire Array trembled with a soft HUM and suddenly lit up with a fiery red glow.

Billowing waves of heat spread out from the Array, and the temperature of the surrounding air began to rise sharply. A foul stench of sulfur and burning filled the air, and even the ground began to grow hot to the touch.

"It’s starting!"

In an instant, the hearts of everyone, on both the Blue Scarf side and the defending side, leaped into their throats.

Seeing this, the Catastrophe Mage, Horn Solar, raised his Magic Staff with a solemn expression. A series of obscure and difficult-to-understand incantations flowed from his lips, each syllable ancient and mystical, resonating with the Array on the ground.

As the light from the Array grew stronger, the crimson glow gradually turned into a blinding, bright red. The air in the center of the Array began to twist violently, as if some terrifying entity was trying to tear through space and descend upon this world.

"Use this chance! Disrupt the summoning!"

Raymond had a good idea of Lynch’s plan, but as the defending commander, he couldn’t just do nothing. That would be too strange and might arouse the enemy’s suspicion if he wasn’t careful.
