Chapter 289 - 108: Anti-cancer Drug Successfully Developed, Drug Trial (2)
Shen Yanzhi considered it seriously. "I still think we should give it to the government. After all, we don’t have any of the right channels. If we tried to mass-produce it, we’d probably get held up on qualifications."
Jiang Li snapped her fingers and smiled. "We really are on the same wavelength."
It dawned on Shen Yanzhi, and he asked, "So when you said you had something to take care of, don’t tell me you scheduled a meeting with government officials?"
Jiang Li didn’t hide it, admitting frankly, "I arranged to meet the mayor and the mayor’s wife. I expect they’re already on their way."
Shen Yanzhi nodded thoughtfully. "This is a serious matter. We should get a private room to talk, so no one with ulterior motives can overhear and make trouble."
Jiang Li gave Shen Yanzhi a surprised look. "You’re always so thorough."
Originally, she’d only planned on having Zhao Xia and Mayor Xu find a random lounge to talk in. Hearing Shen Yanzhi’s point, she had to agree he was right.
After all, with so many people and prying eyes around, it really wasn’t a suitable place for such a discussion.
She tutted, then pulled out her phone. "I’ll have the owner arrange a private room." She then contacted the owner of Jinyuan. "Get me a very private room."
"President Jiang, we have a room kept just for you—Jinyuan One. You can use it whenever you like."
Jiang Li raised her eyebrows in surprise. She had to admit, the owner really knew how to do business, even keeping a private room reserved just for her.
She nodded, satisfied. "Alright. In that case, have someone brew a pot of tea and send it over."
After hanging up, Jiang Li said apologetically, "You hold down the fort here. I’m going to head over."
Shen Yanzhi jutted his chin. "Go on."
Jiang Li called to Sheng Mingyue, who had been standing by like part of the scenery. "Yuyu, come with me."
She sent the room number to both Zhao Xia and the director of her research institute, then headed for the elevators.
Less than ten minutes after she’d sat down in the private room, Zhao Xia arrived with Mayor Xu.
Jiang Li stood. "Sister Zhao, Mayor Xu."
Although she had seen Xu Lian on the news before, meeting him face-to-face for the first time still made her a little nervous.
Xu Lian exuded an air of integrity. Dressed in a navy blue suit, he had the classic look of a veteran official.
She poured two cups of tea, and after they were seated, she passed the cups to them.
Xu Lian and Zhao Xia thanked her, their eyes fixed on Jiang Li. "I hear your research institute has developed a cancer drug?"
Looking at the young woman before him, Xu Lian couldn’t help but think that if Zhao Xia hadn’t personally vouched for her, he would suspect this was all a scam.
After all, the nation had its own research institutes. For something they couldn’t develop to be created by this young woman’s institute...
It either meant the national institutes were useless, or that Jiang Li had an unbelievable number of brilliant minds working for her.
Jiang Li smiled and nodded. "That’s right. The breakthrough just happened today, so I couldn’t wait to share the good news with Sister Zhao."
Knowing Mayor Xu was a busy man, Jiang Li added, "The agent is on its way now. It won’t take long."
Xu Lian’s fingers tapped lightly on the tabletop. He narrowed his eyes; Jiang Li didn’t look like she was lying. "Alright. Have your people go directly to the hospital."
The only way to know if it really worked was to test it.
And hospitals were certainly not short on cancer patients.
If what Jiang Li said was true, this would be monumentally good news.
For the people, and for him personally.
Twenty to thirty thousand people in the country died from cancer every day. If a true anti-cancer drug was developed, it would be an incredible boon for the nation and its people.
It could even be a stepping stone for his own career.
A glint appeared in Jiang Li’s eyes. "Alright, no problem."
’I didn’t expect Mayor Xu to be this cautious.’
Then again, she had apparently succeeded where the national research institutes had failed. Anyone would be suspicious.
True gold fears no fire. Besides, the only reason the research had succeeded so quickly was because of the anti-cancer agent she had provided.
Because she found the system’s announcements for every new item annoying, Jiang Li had set it to place them directly into her system inventory.
On a whim, she had recently checked her inventory and discovered an anti-cancer agent, which she immediately handed over to her research institute.
And the institute, true to form, had delivered results in very little time.
Jiang Li stood. "Which hospital should we go to? I need to tell my people where to go."
"Let’s go to the First Hospital."
After Kyoto Hospital, the First Hospital was the best in the Capital City, bar none.
It also had a relatively large number of cancer patients.
Jiang Li nodded. In front of Mayor Xu, she called the director of her research institute and put the call on speaker. "Have your team head to the First Hospital. We’re on our way there now. We can administer it to patients directly and monitor their conditions in real time."
