Chapter 201 - 79: Transferring to the VIP Ward, Jing Shiyun Has Surgery

  • Next Chapter

"What have you all been up to behind my back?"

When Jing Shiyun woke up, she couldn’t shake the feeling that the atmosphere in the room was a little off.

Jiang Bowen immediately helped Jing Shiyun sit up and replied, "We haven’t done anything. You’re imagining things."

Jing Shiyun glanced around and noticed a new bouquet of flowers, a fruit basket, and a thermos on the bedside table.

Frowning, she tilted her chin up. "Are these new?"

Jiang Bowen nodded hesitantly. "Yeah."

Jing Shiyun snapped irritably, "You waste of money."

Jiang Bowen awkwardly rubbed the tip of his nose. ’If Jing Shiyun finds out Jiang Li was the one who bought all this, who knows what she’ll say to her.’

Afraid she would press the issue, Jiang Bowen quickly changed the subject. "Since you’re awake, let’s move to the VIP room now!"

Jing Shiyun yawned. "I want some water."

Before Jiang Bowen could open his mouth, Jiang Li spoke up, "You can’t yet. The nurse said you can’t have any food or water for now."

Jing Shiyun licked her dry lips. "Did they say exactly when the surgery is?"

"5:30."

Jing Shiyun glanced at the clock on the wall. It was only a little past one.

’In other words, I have to be hungry and thirsty for over four hours!’

’This is torture!’

’If I’d known I was going to fall like this, I wouldn’t have been so insistent on getting that photo.’

Jiang Bowen soothed her gently, "It’s alright, just bear with it for a bit and it’ll be over."

Jing Shiyun shot him an irritated glare. "If it’s so easy to ’bear with it,’ then you can join me in not eating or drinking."

With a pained expression, Jiang Bowen tugged on Jing Shiyun’s sleeve. "Honey~"

Jing Shiyun snorted coldly. "It’s no use even if you call me your ancestor."

Shen Yanzhi leaned closer to Jiang Li and asked in a low voice, "Have Mom and Dad always had such a good relationship?"

Jiang Li stroked her chin, thinking back on all her memories of Jiang Bowen and Jing Shiyun’s life together. At last, she nodded. "They’ve always been like this, for as long as I can remember."

Shen Yanzhi suddenly reached out and took her hand. Jiang Li jumped in surprise and shot him a quizzical look, just as he said, "Then let’s try to be like Mom and Dad, too."

Shen Yanzhi’s gaze was so earnest it made Jiang Li’s face feel hot.

THUMP—

THUMP—

’My heart is going to pound right out of my chest,’ Jiang Li thought. ’Does Shen Yanzhi even know what he’s saying?!’

Seeing that she didn’t answer, Shen Yanzhi gave her hand a gentle squeeze and narrowed his eyes. "What’s wrong? Is my wife reluctant?"

Jiang Li turned her face away, muttering under her breath, "It’s not like I’m the one who gets to decide that."

Just as Shen Yanzhi was about to ask her what she’d said, Jing Shiyun suddenly piped up, "What are you two whispering about over there?"

Jiang Li immediately pulled her hand away from Shen Yanzhi’s and stammered, "Nothing! Just wondering if we should go grab a bite to eat."

Jing Shiyun said in disbelief, "You still haven’t eaten?"

Jiang Li smiled as she explained, "Well, we figured you were still sleeping, and we didn’t know when you’d wake up. If we both left, you’d be all alone when you woke up."

Jing Shiyun frowned at her words. "It’s past one o’clock. Go eat already."

’Jiang Li’s stomach is already weak. Not eating on schedule will just lead to stomach pains, and that’s the last thing she needs.’

Jiang Li didn’t protest and stood up. "Okay, we’ll go eat now. We’ll be back in a bit."

’Besides, I have a little one in my belly, and I’m genuinely starving.’

However, when Jiang Li and Shen Yanzhi reached the doorway, she noticed Jiang Bowen hadn’t moved and turned back to ask, "Dad, aren’t you coming with us?"

Jiang Bowen looked like he was about to cry. "I’m not hungry. You two go on ahead."

’If I dared to eat, Jing Shiyun would probably banish me to the study for another half a month.’

’Compared to his soft, sweet-smelling wife, skipping a meal or two was nothing.’

Jiang Li asked tentatively, "Should we bring something back for you, then?"

Jiang Bowen waved his hand. "Don’t worry about me. You two just get your own food."

Jiang Li raised an eyebrow. "Alrighty then."

Once they were out of the hospital room, Shen Yanzhi asked, "Are we really not bringing anything back for Dad?"

Jiang Li shook her head. "There’s no need. He’d probably get angry if we did."

Shen Yanzhi didn’t understand. "Huh? Why?"

Jiang Li smiled and shrugged. "Why else? Because Mom is no match for a good meal, of course."

In case Shen Yanzhi didn’t get it, Jiang Li elaborated, "For example, when it’s time for me to give birth, if I end up needing a C-section, I’d expect you to fast right along with me."

’Why should I be the one suffering and starving while he, the baby’s father, gets to feast on whatever he likes? That’s not fair.’
